Chapter Nine: Making a choice
"There's still so much left to see. Now, how many children are left?" (Y/N) asked taking the goggles off and looking at Ben and Peter.
"Miss Wonka, Peter's the only one left now," Ben told her
"You mean, you're the only one?"
"Yes," Peter said smiling
"What happened to the others?" (Y/N) then realised, "Oh, my dear boy, but that means you've won!" (Y/N) shook his hand furiously, "Oh, I do congratulate you. I really do. I'm absolutely delighted. I had a hunch right from the beginning. Well done. Now, we mustn't dilly or dally. We have an enormous number of things to do before the day's out. But luckily for us," she let go of his hand, "we have the great glass elevator to speed things alo-" (Y/N) ran straight into the glass door but got back up, "Speed things along."
The door opened and the three stepped in. (Y/N) then pressed a button that said 'Up and Out'. Peter asked what room that was but (Y/N) only told him to hold on. The elevator shot up and continued to go that way. But (Y/N) realised that they would need to be a lot faster otherwise they wouldn't break through. Peter asked what they were supposed to break through. (Y/N) told him that she had wanted to push that button for years.
But now it was time to go up and out. They were going to break through the top of the factory. Ben said that the elevator was made of glass, it would smash into a million pieces with them inside it. (Y/N) only giggled and looked up. They smashed through the biggest chimney in the factory and started to free-fall back down. But (Y/N) saved them by pushing a button that made the elevator fly.
Back down below, all the others started to walk out of the factory. Ned and his mother walked out first, Ned completely covered in chocolate. Next was Yelena and Melina. But Yelena had been squeezed so much that she was now purple but very flexible. Next was Tony and Morgan covered in trash. And lastly, Flash and his father. Flash was now three times his normal height. Taller than his father.
Morgan saw the Glass Elevator flying above them and told Tony that she wanted it. Tony told her no and that the only thing she was getting was a bath. (Y/N) asked Peter where he lived so she could take him home. Peter pointed to the house at the very end of the town. Inside, Mary was wondering when Peter and ben would get home as it had been a while since they entered the factory. Richard only said that it was hard to know. That's when the elevator crashed through the roof and landed in the middle of the room. Peter said hello to his parents before walking out of the elevator and giving them a hug.
"This is (Y/N) Wonka. She gave us a ride home," Peter said smiling
"I see that," Mary said
"You must be the boy's-" (Y/N) couldn't say the word again
"Parents?" Richard asked
"Yeah. That."
"She says Peter's won something," Ben said smiling
"Not just some something," (Y/N) said looking through their cupboards, "The most "something" something of any something that's ever been. I'm gonna give this little boy my entire factory."
"You must be joking!" Ben said shocked
"No, really. It's true. Because you see, a few months ago, I was having my semiannual haircut and I had the strangest revelation. In that one silver hair, I saw reflected my life's work... my factory, my beloved Oompa-Loompas. Who would watch over them after I was gone? I realized in that moment: I must find an heir. And I did, Peter. You."
"That's why you sent out the golden tickets," Peter said
"What are Oompa-Loompas?" Mary whispered to the two
"I invited five children to the factory," (Y/N) continued to look through their cupboards, "and the one who was the least rotten would be the winner.
(Y/N) found the model of her factory and stopped looking around
"That's you, Peter," Ben told him smiling
"So, what do you say? Are you ready to leave all this behind and come live with me at the factory?" (Y/N) asked smiling
"Sure. Of course," Peter said smiling, "I mean, it's all right if my family come too?"
"Oh, my dear boy, of course, they can't. You can't run a chocolate factory with a family hanging over you like an old, dead goose. No offense," (Y/N) said to the grandparents
"None taken, jerk," Grandpa George said
(Y/N) ignored that comment and continued, "A chocolatier has to run free and solo. He or she has to follow his or her dreams. Gosh, darn the consequences. Look at me. I had no family, and I'm a giant success."
"So if I go with you to the factory, I won't ever see my family again?" Peter asked her
"Yeah. Consider that a bonus."
"Then I'm not going. I wouldn't give up my family for anything. Not for all the chocolate in the world."
(Y/N) wasn't expecting that. She thought living in a chocolate factory would be a child's dream but she was wrong. This was very unexpected.
"Oh, I see. That's weird," (Y/N) said before trying something else, "There's other candy too besides chocolate."
"I'm sorry, Miss Wonka. I'm staying here," Peter said
"Wow... Well, that's just... unexpected... and weird. But I suppose, in that case, I'll just-- Goodbye, then," (Y/N) went to push a button but looked back at Peter, "Sure you won't change your mind?"
"I'm sure."
"Okay. Bye."
(Y/N) pushed the button and flew away back to her factory.
"Things are going to get much better," Grandma Georgina said smiling
And for once, Grandma Georgina knew exactly what she was talking about. The next morning, Peter helped his parents fix the hole in the roof. Uncle Ben spent the whole day out of bed. He didn't feel tired at all. Peter's father got a better job at the toothpaste factory repairing the machine that had replaced him. Things had never been better for the Parker family. The same could not be said for (Y/N) Wonka.
"I can't put my finger on it," (Y/N) told her therapist, "Candy's the only thing I was ever certain of and now I'm just not certain at all. I don't know which flavors to make or which ideas to try. I'm second-guessing myself, which is nuts. I've always made whatever candy I felt like, and l--" (Y/N) thought about it, "That's just it, isn't it? I make the candy I feel like, but now I feel terrible, so the candy's terrible. You're very good."
The Oompa Loompa just smiled and nodded.
