Persuasion.
The ability to coax anyone who's near the user to do exactly as they want. Can't be nullified unless the person affected has strong will.
The dimly lit hallway was vacant of any sorts of living creatures. The sole absence of any sound engraved agitation to your already raged nerves.
Being given a consequential task, such as this one, brought a considerable amount of responsibility on your behalf, hence why you needn't any noticeable reluctance in your step.
You stepped in a nicely decorated room, your reflection void of any anxiousness. A scarlet rug laid beneath your feet, etched with memories of many people on the brink of their death, murmuring their prayers to the force beyond our understanding, a God of some sorts. The room itself gave off a petrifying vibe, but not so much like the figure that sat behind the desk.
Mastering the lack of hesitation in your presence deemed you worthy of such complicated tasks, after all it turned out to be an advantage, thus giving you many opportunities to succeed any mission you were given.
The man eyed you, like a hunter eyeing its prey. It didn't make you falter, but once those malignant orbs met your own ones, it did make you question your confidence. Was the way he looked at your figure, with such malice yet attentiveness enough for you to drop your mask, or was it just a mere inquisitiveness on your behalf that made your confidence waver?
" Why thank you for coming here today. Don't be shy now, take a seat."
The older man's voice was quite pleasant on your ears. Feeling as if you were captivated by his voice, you obeyed and took a seat in one of his rather luxurious chairs.
" My name is Mori. Mori Ougai. I presume you already know that, but what is meeting someone without a proper introduction worth for? ", Mori rested his head on his palm, words flowing out of his mouth like honey dripping off of a blade.
" It's my pleasure. I do, indeed, agree that a proper introduction is very significant on the first impression we give off to strangers."
Mori's lips curved into an amused smile, changing his serious expression to a more playful one.
" Care to introduce yourself then? "
The older man looked as he was plotting something malicious, but that thought could might as well be your own paranoia kicking in.
" Oh, I'm terribly sorry. I don't think my name is needed as my job is going to consist of getting rid of corpses and such filthy things, therefore I insist you call me J."
In all seriousness, you couldn't fuck up, your identity is to remain a secret. With a couple of changes, your files were now fit to represent your fake identity. A young woman with an intention to get her hands filthy in order to feed her family. Pretty basic but worth the shot you were given.
Using your ability wasn't necessary in this situation, just a little chit chat with the boss wouldn't need you to activate your ability.
Dismissing the lack of information he got out of you, another question seemed to glaze over his tongue in an attempt to tease your anticipation.
" Tell me, my lady. Why choose to be a maid? To get your delicate hands dirty for someone else just to feed your family?"
You couldn't distinguish between the sincere tone in his voice or the utter mockery of the job you chose to do.
" I guess that's the thing of loving people. You sacrifice yourself to keep them safe and sound. "
Not for one second did this man seem convinced, hence you wished you activated your ability earlier.
" Why suffer for the wellbeing of others?"
His question was devoid of any emotion. It seemed like this man didn't have anything important in his life. That could be a potential threat to your mission, but nothing you couldn't handle.
" It's getting late, isn't it? ", taking a short glance at the window you stood up.
Mori raised his head to meet your eyes, a playful smile dancing on his lips. Damn, bipolar much.
" Yes, yes. You shall clean my office before 8am and take Elise out in the garden at 10am. I will not tolerate any disrespectful behavior. Oh, and also try to be punctual!", Mori clapped enthusiastically, confusing you even more. The man who stood in front of you was a walking enigma. Nothing you haven't seen before, but something about him just seemed to pique your interest.
" Understood. Have a good evening, boss. "
...
Well, isn't this chapter shitty! I apologize for the lack of words in this chapter, I shall make the other ones longer. Currently, I'm testing the waters with this idea.
I haven't seen many fanfictions about Mori, hence why I decided to write my own.
This isn't a reader insert story as I originally planned since I'm going to use a real person. If you like literature you probably know her. Have fun guessing.
