St Louis secondary school

Immediately she left, I suddenly realized I was a bit hungry and found my way to the cafeteria and most especially to see my friends.

Music was playing softly at the background and damn, that had to be one of the best things that St Louis did.

I found them at the usual table and walked up to them.

"Guyyyy" Precious practically yelled and patted my back.

Precious and drama.

"What's up na?" Ken shook me and Dozie followed. Ken was already eating a big pizza alone,a big bottle of Coke beside him, Dozie was having just a drink and Precious was having a drink also.

Dozie had a book as usual placed before him. He adjusted his gold rimmed glasses and his tie better.

I took a better look at Ken and noticed that he had pierced his ears, a cross earring dangling from his right ear, you see why he reminds me so much of Mattew.

"You pierced your ears?" I asked

"Yup" He replied in between mouth full like it was the most normal thing in the world.

"Your dad didn't say anything?" I asked,his lawyer father would have probably flipped.

"He went away on a business trip,words cannot explain the kind of freedom I have"He dipped his hand inside the box and took another slice.

"I like your hairstyle sha" Dozie grinned at me and I smiled. Just cornrows, nothing much. And Dozie was like that, though he would never try piercing his ears or making his hair he never stopped us or tried to make us feel bad about it.

"Thanks" I finally replied and noticed that Ken had gone halfway with the pizza.

Chee

The music changed to Link up by Burna boy,Phyno and MI and somehow it seemed as if everyone in the cafeteria was happy with it.

"Hands down,this has got to be one of the maddest collaboration in terms of music"Ken said jamming to Phynos part.

"Guy,no lies, Burna boy's part is crazy,for once I've got to give it to him"Dozie chipped in and I smirked.

" His the African giant"

"Rest abeg" Dozie replied and I chuckled.

"Guyyyy, you missed yesterday" Precious suddenly dropped his phone, seeing Precious outside, no one would believe  he was the ambassador of gist.

"If Mayokurn, Burna boy or Drake did not come yesterday, then I didn't miss anything"I replied flatly.

The way he kept his face, I missed I had taken a picture, it was so suitable for a meme.

"You just like spoiling my mood, I wanted to tell you how two girls in Ss three fought because of Ken"

My ears perked up at that, I knew my eyes had probably widened too.

"Like serious?" I asked so quickly that it made Dozie even chuckle. The so called Ken was eating like it was no man's business.

"I thought you weren't interested" Precious mocked me and I smiled

" You know I was joking now" I tried to convince him.

"You know Ella na, that Ella in Ss 3 science class, that tall one that can play basketball"

"I know her"

"And Ifeoma the one that has a clique like that made up of majorly short girls, like I think they are the short girls association of the school"

I chuckled and urged him on.

"So yesterday, Ken was on duty with Ella and instead of facing her job, she was flirting with him, madam Ifeoma has a crush on him and saw Ella as a potential threat, boom, fight started on their passage, watch this video" he shoved a phone towards me.

I pressed play on the screen and the video started, lots of screaming and shouting and tugging of hair, I had to admit that the shorter girl could throw some reasonable punch, the person who made the video had a reasonable angle as the video was really clear.

"Mad o" I turned to Ken and he was gulping the large size of coke.

"Girls that I don't know o, like I don't have business with, it's the mumuness for me Sha"

The three of us laughed. Ken was mad like that.

"That gender Sha, I don't think I can fight because of any madam o, like guy I don't have strength to do that stuff"Ken licked his lips, a serious face on. He scratched his his hair a bit.

"The stuff is so funny, Ken is not even fine" Dozie mocked.

Ken snapped his head towards him

" Meaning?"

" You are ugly" Dozie replied and we all laughed.

" Haters everywhere,but I remain focused,heaven is the goal" It was the poker face he had on that made all of us laugh.

Precious was still on his phone and a slow irritation was creeping on his face, like he could beat someone up.

"What's this fool saying sef, how can someone be comparing Shade Onam to Sophia Williams"He asked and once I saw the grin on Ken's face, I knew an argument was about to start.

"The person is right now, personally Sophia Williams is more beautiful, has more achievement and I just like her"

Round 1

"it's because you are my friend I'm not calling you a goat, yes I admit you are one but at least have sense for once, does your Sophia have green eyes? Do you know how many international stars are following my baby, do you know how many billboards she has appeared on? "

Round 2

" Who the green eyes epp now, Sophia is beautiful, insanely beautiful, green eyes does not determine beauty"

Round 3

Just like Dozie who had his eyes on his phone trying to ignore the teenage boys arguing over girls who were on their own, I was already tired too of them, for all I knew, they weren't going to stop bickering till they went for class.

I hadn't order anything and so I went to the counter, ordered a meatpie and drink and was heading back to the table when I saw her.

I didn't pause neither did I take my eyes of her and someone, it was a boy and she was having a good laugh, grinning here and there. How come I never noticed how her eyes glowed when she laughs.

Snap out of it brother.

I didn't know the boy that much, apart from the fact that he was a football player, I didn't know anything much.

I threw my face away and sat on my table, the two boys were still talking and so taking my ear pods, I blocked my ears against the noise.

Selena

"Hey" He repeated when he didn't get a response the first time.

" Hi" I finally replied.

I was surprised and probably he could see it. I didn't have friends in this school, people rarely spoke to me and so someone sitting at my table was definitely a big deal.

"You don't seem comfortable"He noted and I smiled to mask up the nervousness.

" No, I'm actually fine"

"And surprised" He added, his eyes holding some kind of glint in them.

The boy before me was cute. Tall, athletic, he was part of the football team, had his own share fanbase. He was really light skinned,his nose so pointed and sharp as though he was from Britain. His hair was kept really low and his lips still had the smile,like it was part of his face.

If there was anything I liked then it was the way the uniform clinged on his upper body.

"Wow,I guess I'm good looking then" He broke into my thoughts and I bent my head to stop the blush creeping on my face. He seemed amused though.

"I'm Zion"

"Like mountain Zion?" I didn't know what made me to ask but I did and he laughed really softly.

"Yes,like mountain Zion" he replied.

"What about you?" He asked.

"Selena"

"Selena" He repeated after me as though he was tasting a new name on his lips.

"I saw you sitting alone, infact I've always seen you sitting alone and I decided to keep you company and you seem like an interesting human"

" I feel like a lab rat now"

" No na,I didn't mean it that way" He was still smiling and I wanted to ask if his cheeks didn't hurt.

"You like Chimamanda?" He asked noting the book I had in my hands.

I nodded.

"Same here,I've read all her works"

My eyes lit up in curiosity.

" You don't look like someone that reads" I said truthfully and he smiled again.

" You dey whine me" he said and this time I laughed,pidgin definitely sounded funny coming from him.

"I can't be that bad in vernacular na" He pouted.

" You are. Actually I'm just surprised though,you are a guy and a sports star,so I just assumed you don't read"

" Assumpta,I actually read a lot of African works majorly.i might read English and Literary studies in the university"

I paused,how had the conversation escalated so fast,I barely knew him yet we are talking as though we were best friends.

"That's nice" I finally replied.

"What about you?What do you want to do in the university?" He asked.

" I'm still thinking about it" I replied honestly. I've had a lot of dreams and I tossed them,I didn't even know if I was going to the university,but I didn't tell Zion that.

"You seem to be in deep thoughts" He waved over my face and I smiled at him.

" Have someone told you how beautiful your smiles are?" He asked

"Why does that look like a play boy's line?" I resorted and he chuckled,like fits of laughter escaped from him

"I'm serious honestly and I don't play women honestly" He had a sincere look on his face now.

There was a brief and comfortable silence,the background sound playing something that sounded like a fireboys song,only that my attention was fixed on a particular group throwing stares at me

" I think your friends are glaring at me" I informed Zion.

He waved at his friends and I saw the fake smiles that crossed their lips,they looked disgusted.

"We should talk more often Selena" He said again in a sincere low tune and I nodded.

He waved at me and walked back to his table.

Finally a nice human in this school.
