Before you knew it, a month had passed and you were stood in your bedroom getting ready to go to the gig with Harry. Your excitement had built insurmountably since the day Harry gave you the tickets, and to say you were practically vibrating with elated anticipation was an understatement. You'd spent the last hour or so with The 1975 blasting loudly through your apartment, doing more dancing and jumping than actual getting ready.
The ringing of your phone broke you out of your dance party. You clutched the towel wrapped around your body tighter as you picked up the slim device.
"Hey Ems, what's up?"
"My dear Cecelia," she said in a dramatic voice which meant she was definitely calling to tease you about something, "Just checking in before your loved up date tonight?"
You rolled your eyes, "It's not a date Emmy. Really, in a way, it's work since Harry's hoping to sign them."
"Oh shut up, we all know this is a date...what man would literally change the date of a concert of your favourite band for you? Ooh, I can tell you who wouldn't do that for you...Damon." She deadpanned.
You couldn't help the laugh that escaped your lips. Emmy had taken every possible opportunity to make sure her feelings towards Damon were very clear, "And let me guess," you drawled sarcastically, "you can tell me what man who would do that for me?"
"Yes, I sure can, and his name starts with a H and ends in a Y, and has A R R in the middle if you weren't sure."
"You're such a pest, you know that right?"
"I most definitely do, but that's why ya love me!" You could picture her shit-eating grin as she spoke which made you chuckle. What would you do without a friend like Emmy?
"Can't deny that Emsy."
"But seriously Ceece, I'm still not over the fact Harry did this for you...isn't there some part of you that just wants to put the boy out of his misery and start shagging again?"
"Emmy!" You cried at her dirty mouth.
"What? 'M just saying." She mumbled, in a matter-of-fact tone.
You sighed before answering. Truth was, part of you did want to do just that - drop the walls still partially up around your heart and stop wasting time and just be with Harry like you knew you both wanted. But, the bigger part of you was still scared. Sometimes, you had a tendency to go back to what you knew wasn't good for you, purely just because it wasn't the unknown, and in this instance a relationship with Harry really felt like the unknown.
"Yeah of course there is, but I just need some more time...to figure things out, to figure out what I truly want."
Emmy was silent for a long moment on the other end of the line before she spoke, "I know, and I understand that; no-one wants to see you get hurt again, especially me, and I know you know that. But I also think - and this is me giving you the forceful, motherly push that you need so don't hate me - sometimes we have to do the things that scare us, cos otherwise we could miss out on something great, something that is exactly what we want and need."
"Wow," you teased, "Look at you getting all deep and philosophical on me."
"Oh fuck off, I take it back - just go and fuck the poor bloke."
You laughed loudly, this was something you adored about your friendship with Emmy; you would both fire sarcastic and jokey insults to each other all the time, but when you needed her support and kind heart, she was always there ready and waiting whether you knew you needed it or not.
"I love you Ems, thank you," you said, more serious now.
"Yes I know you do, now go and have the best time! I can't wait to hear all about it, love you."
After bidding her a goodbye you pressed play back on your music and continued to get ready.
As you got dressed you thought about Emmy's words. You knew she was completely right; Harry had messed up yes, but his intentions came from a good place and they continued to do so. From the moment you met there was no denying the obvious connection you two had together, and this had only strengthened the longer you had known him. The months you'd spent distant from each other were so incredibly hard, and that on it's own speaks for the hold he had over your heart, and you were not mad about that in the slightest; it only made you feel warm and mushy inside. Ew, you thought, are those feelings?
Chuckling to yourself at your cynical thoughts, you brushed the thoughts from your mind and focused on your excitement for tonight - that was all that mattered for now.
You had opted for a simple white bodysuit and dark blue ripped jeans paired with one of your favourite pairs of heeled black boots; fashionable, but also practical for the amount of jumping and dancing you were sure you'd be partaking in. You had nearly gone for another merch t-shirt that you owned, but decided to represent your love for the band with the simple rectangle pendant necklace Felicity had bought you a few years ago from one of their earlier tours.
Slipping on the rest of your jewellery and grabbing your bag, you gave yourself one more once over in the mirror, checking that you were happy with your make-up and hair. Those nervous butterflies that were similar to the ones you'd felt before going to Harry's birthday dinner had returned; it always seemed when you knew you'd be around him outside of work, you felt much more aware of what was developing between you two.
After a mini pep talk in the mirror, you left your apartment, locking the door behind you and made your way down to the foyer.
◇
Harry was waiting down there for you, as planned. His long body was leant up against a column, his booted feet crossed at the ankles as he typed away on his phone.
While he wasn't looking, your eyes were able to fully drink him in. As per usual, he looked breathtaking (realistically, when did he not?) but there was definitely something about seeing him dressed in simple black jeans and a white Rolling Stones t-shirt that affected you in a different way than his crisp suits did. Maybe it was the way you could still see his impeccable style through the different ways he dressed, and no matter what he wore it was always just so...Harry. But what really did it for you, was the blue head scarf that was wrapped expertly around his growing curls, controlling them in the most effortlessly sexy way. And what didn't help, was the first thought that popped into your mind when you saw it...let's just say you had the same ideas whenever he wore a tie to work.
You shook yourself out of your fantasy and realised it probably looked increasingly weird the longer you just stood there admiring him, so finally taking a jolted step forward, you began to approach him.
"'Ello, love." Harry greeted you with a huge dimpled grin which made your own lips instantly curve into the same warm smile.
Harry hooked an arm around your neck and pulled you into his chest, swooping his head down and placing a gentle kiss to your cheek, "Hey Harry." You mumbled into his warm chest in reply. His movements and the strong whiff of his personal musky scent combined with his cologne that had a fresh floral undertone to it made your knees wobble.
"Ready to go, kiddo? You look wonderful." You loved it when he called you kiddo; there was still something about the fact he was a few years older than you that made the innocent pet name seem oddly sexy and alluring.
"Thank you," you said, his arm was still slung around your neck so you wrapped your own arm around his waist, you always loved how easy it was between you both regardless of you being his assistant, "and sure am, I'm so excited!"
Harry looked down at you with a smirk and eyes that were positively glowing with happiness, "Me too."
"I like this," you complimented him then, index finger coming up to play with the scarf twined into his chestnut curls.
"You do? I'll get you one and we can be matching. Scarves are much better to push your hair back with than sunglasses you know." He gestured to the sunglasses currently perched on the crown of your head, his know-it-all factual tone making you laugh.
"Oh is it now? We've spoken about matching before though, Harry, and it's not a cool look."
"I make everything cool, darling." His self-assured smirk had you biting your lip; no matter the situation he always looked incredibly lustful whenever those plush lips pulled up to one side.
You'd reached the car by now, and ever the gentleman, Harry opened the door for you and slipped into the backseat behind you. As you got inside you had the weirdest sense of deja vu; your mind flashed back to another time, long ago, when Harry had followed you into the back of a car very similar to this one - could it be the same one? - with a cheeky smack to your bum. The thought made your body flush with heat. Your hormones were clearly raging today (maybe you were due on?) as you were obviously feeling very turned on, as everything Harry did seemed to have your mind in the gutter and your abdomen tightening in desire.
The car drive went by quickly; you spent the time talking about business, going over Harry's plans for the bands future with the company, instead of bantering around. However, due to your current riled up state, you couldn't help but be distracted by the night ahead. The 1975's discography had their fair share of sensual beats and promiscuous lyrics, and the thought of Harry's firm body behind yours as you swayed to the music had you crossing your legs to try and relieve some of the tension building between your thighs.
And it only got worse - you grabbed dinner at a little burger joint near the concert venue, and by the time you both left you had an alcohol-induced sway to your steps and haziness to your thoughts. Because of this, there was no hiding the obvious lust you were feeling; why did increased horniness have to be a side effect of drinking?
Stumbling back into the car, giggling like little kids, Harry directed the driver to pull up around the back of the venue. Even though you felt safe with Harry, and realistically wouldn't care less right now if paparazzi caught you two due to the alcohol buzzing around you body, it was still sweet to see the extra precautions he was taking to make sure there was no unwanted attention.
He grabbed your hand as you stepped out of the car, and tugged you along behind him. Winding through the maze of corridors that was backstage, you had a vague sense you weren't heading towards the stage, "H..." you drew the letter out, "Where are we going?"
Harry turned to look back at you with a delighted smirk, "You'll see."
You chose to stay quiet, and just enjoy the anticipatory thrill of being dragged along by Harry to an unknown destination. A sense of complete trust washed over you as you realised you'd happily follow Harry anywhere - it was something you'd never really felt before. All you questions were soon answered though, as you stopped outside an inconspicuous plain, grey door. Harry rapped his knuckles lightly as you stopped behind him, still gripping his hand, your insides squirming in excitement, and pushed the door open slightly, poking his curl-framed head in.
"Harry!" You heard a mystery voice exclaim, along with other deep voices speaking in greeting.
"Hey boys, how're ya?" Then as Harry pulled you into the room, and you were face to face with all four members of your favourite band, your mouth dropped in shock.
The four men came to hug Harry as you just stared, dumbstruck at the current scene unfolding in front of you.
"You must be Cecelia," Matty Healy smiled up at you.
"I...yeah, hi...oh my god Harry, this is so amazing! Sorry, that was so unprofessional...I've loved you guys and your music for literally forever, this is just a dream come true...okay I'm gonna shut up now, I've had a few drinks sorry," you spoke incredibly quickly, and with many giggles, completely overwhelmed, mostly by Harry's thoughtfulness yet again. He didn't have to bring you back here, but he had, knowing what it would probably mean to you.
After chatting together for a few more moments, as well as Harry speaking about some business stuff, you both left the room to let the band carry on getting ready for the gig.
"Oh Harry!" You squealed as soon as you left the room, "That was incredible!"
"Thought you'd like that, nice aren't they?"
You carried on rambling about what an experience it was to finally meet them after loving them from afar for so many years. But all Harry could think about while you spoke was wanting to be the reason for that breathtaking smile on your face and brightness in your eyes for the rest of his life.
◇
You both stood towards the back of the standing crowd, Harry had asked if you'd wanted to watch from the side of the stage but you declined, wanting to get the proper concert experience and be part of the electric atmosphere. It was nice; you had enough room around you to be able to breath and dance, while also being able to see the stage incredibly clearly.
Looking over your shoulder with a grin to see if Harry had come back from the bar yet, you spotted him only a few strides behind you, the camera of his phone pointing in your direction. Turning around fully now, you looked at him questionably, with both hands on your hips, "If you wanted a picture all you had to do was ask."
"Oh, um - no, I was just taking a picture of the stage...you know for businessy stuff." He fiddled with the cross pendant that hung over the middle of his chest nervously, before leaning down to grab the two drinks at his feet. You raised your eyebrows in response, not believing his excuse for a second.
Harry arrived at your shoulder, passing you one of the two beers in his hands, "Thanks H." You smiled, taking a sip of the cool liquid just as the lights started to go down and the couple thousand people erupted in cheers and claps, all ready to be united by the music of one small band.
Most of the concert went by in a blur, as most of the best moments in life do. Harry had certainly done his homework; he knew most of the lyrics to all the big songs and even some of the lesser known ones. You both danced incredibly badly, without a single care in the world; it seemed as though the only two things that mattered was the music and Harry.
But there were some moments from the night which stood out amongst the rest, and they made your heart sing in your chest. The words to Change Of Heart, floating through your ears with more meaning than they ever did as Harry's body swayed next to yours, his presence seemingly more apparent than ever. Your hands joined with Harry's pulling and pushing back and forth to TOOTIME in a comedic dance, his lanky limbs moving in the most adorable way. Harry twirling you around like a princess at a ball to Couldn't Be More In Love, his eyes and the lyrics conveying the words you didn't know he was dying to say. Towards the end, when Fallingforyou played out, the feeling of Harry behind you, every part of your bodies touching as he wrapped his arms around your waist and gentled rocked you both to the soothing melody and soft lyrics.
The car ride home was quiet; it was as though the moments you'd just shared together and the songs that had been your background noise were enough to fill the lack of words in the silence.
Your hand came to rest atop of his in the middle seat that separated you, a soft smile playing at your lips and your eyes bright and alive like never before, and Harry felt something cement in his heart that he'd toyed with but never confirmed before tonight.
And when he laid in bed that night, mind sleepy, but body wide awake from having been so close to you all night, he flicked through the photos on his phone that he'd taken before you'd caught him. His thumb paused when he landed on one of the last ones; your face was turned towards the camera now, and the grin on your face as you spotted him was utterly wonderful. Harry smiled at his phone - he knew you'd seen right through his dumb excuse, but he didn't care, because that picture made him realise what he'd felt in the car on the way home. The truth washed over him like a cool breeze in hot sunshine - he couldn't be more in love with you.
woweeee that was a long one lmao, hope you enjoyed!
also I know I went into quite a bit of detail with mentioning some of the 1975's songs, but I just love them so much so had to divulge a little hope you don't mind hahaha
if you listen to the songs listed that should kinda give you an insight into how they are both feeling as the lyrics really do just speak for themselves :) also I've got a playlist for the gig, so if anyones interested in knowing that just pop me a message and I'll show you!
like I said in the previous chapter, I know things have been quite fluffy and romantic at the moment, but I promise some drama will be coming soon teehee
also quick question, do you guys want me to write more about their time in the office and actually working together? cos I feel like I haven't done that in quite a few chapters but it hasn't been all that relevant atm if you get me....
anyway, hope you enjoyed this chapter! as always a HUGE thank you for all the support from you guys, it really means a lot <3 remember to keep voting as its a huge motivator to update!!
lots of love,
