Chapter 21 ~ Helping With Love! Meeting With the Hierophant!

I'm on a roll with this, I don't know how but I'm in a writing mood. Anyway, here's the next chapter!

5/6

I was walking to school until I heard my name being called from behind me along with a chime of a bell. I turn around to see Yosuke catching up to me on his bike. "Yo!" He greeted me and I returned it as he stopped his bike as it made a weird sound. He needs a new bike, doesn't he? "Dammit, I just fixed this thing... It's making squeaking sounds again." "Maybe you just need a new bike?" I suggested as he looked down as if he remembered something. "Huh? Yeah... Hey, by the way... I'm sorry about the other day... You know, about what I said to Nanako-chan. After hanging out with Nanako-chan... I feel even stronger that we have to solve this case." I smile at Yosuke. Him thinking about Nanako in this light really does warm my heart. "I'm counting on you, partner!" Giving him a thumbs up, he smiles too, "Hell yeah, partner!" Yosuke puts his hand up, as if to indicate to me to give him a high five. I did so, hesitantly, but once I did, I felt this energetic feeling coursing through me. Was this Yosuke's doing? If so, I should hang out with him more. Suddenly we realised that if we keep talking we're gonna be late. "Wanna ride to school together? He asks, motioning to his bike. "Sure, but don't go too fast." We then got on the bike together, the same way we did when we first met. This time however, I wasn't clinging onto his jacket. I was clinging onto him with my arms wrapped around his torso. I guess it must be because I trust him now.

~Timeskip~

School was over and everyone was just doing their own thing as Yukiko and Yosuke stood up and turned to Chie and I. Wait a second... we're just Scooby Doo, aren't we? We even have an animal sidekick... oh god. "Ugh... why do the holidays have to end so fast...?" I feel you, Chie. "At least they were peaceful. I listened in on the housewives gossiping at Junes, but it doesn't seem like anything happened. And I haven't heard anything about someone disappearing suddenly, either... Y'think Yukiko could've been the last of the victims?" "Doubt it, though I wouldn't mind Amagi being the last one." I respond to Yosuke while playing with a loose strand of my hair as Chie grunts. "I don't know. But we shouldn't relax as long as the culprit remains at large." Smart thinking, Amagi. I nod at her, "I wonder... Will someone show up on TV again if it rains? If we only knew a little more about who the killer might be..." If only things were that easy, Yosuke.

"Eh, it's no good fretting over it now. If someone does show up on the Midnight Channel, then we'll deal with it. It's supposed to start raining soon, but I hope this weather holds through next week... You know... Midterms..." Chie moans while slamming her head on the desk. Now that I think about it, yeah midterms are coming up and I haven't studied much. "Ugh, you had to go and bring that up... I don't wanna think about it." Neither do I, Yosuke, but we have to suck it up. Chie sighs, "I wish I had Yukiko's gift for studying... Hey Yosuke, why don't you have Yukiko go over some of the material with you?" Maybe I should also listen to Chie's advice and ask Amagi to study with me... "Hm? Oh, that's right. Yukiko's ranked at the top on every exam." Wait, she has? "Maybe I should ask her for some private lessons." Okay, Yosuke... your wording is horrible. "P-Private lessons!?" As expected, Amagi was perplexed. "Huh? What's wrong?" He literally doesn't know. The black haired girl walked up to him and slapped him across his face, making a really loud noise when her hand made contact with his face.

"Ow...! What was that for? I'm just asking you to help me study..." Then why didn't you just say that? "Oh, I'm sorry... You were talking about studying... I thought it might've been an off-color joke. Our inn has had some strange visitors lately..." Should we be concerned? "If you thought it was a joke, then just shrug it off!" And if you thought about asking anyone to study, just ask them straight out. Don't call it 'private lessons'. "Sorry. My hand moved without thinking..." At least Amagi forgave you. "Geez... Thanks a lot, Chie, for bringing up the whole studying thing." "Wh-What did I do!? You're the one who made it sound creepy and wrong! 'Private lessons,' huh?" And there they go on arguing. This is gonna be a normal thing for our group, isn't it? Amagi didn't seem to think much of their fighting, "Oh... I should start heading home." In fact, she just packed up her stuff and left. Maybe I should too, I don't wanna be in the middle of this.

Actually, wasn't there a guy who asked me to ask a girl for her interests? Is she on the roof again? I went up to the roof and saw the same girl so I asked her the same question, "Hobbies besides animals? Well, I also like reading. When you read a book, it's like a whole world opens up just for you. I get so excited the first time I open a book!" Hmm... interesting. Though I don't think it's enough for me to tell that guy right now.

Hmm... I wonder if the fox has an ema it wants me to fulfill... As I walked up the stairs of the shrine, I bowed at the entrance and saw the fox jump down from the roof in front of me. As expected, the fox had an ema in it's mouth and with a pat on its head, it handed me the ema.

'I want things to go well with the person I like!'

The handwriting looks so cute and pretty, most likely a girl's handwriting. With a small nod, I leave the shrine to go back to the school. I wanna see if Yosuke and Chie are done arguing so I can hang out with one of them. Entering the school, I see a girl putting something in my shoe box with a loving smile on her face. "Excuse me." I tapped her shoulder as she got a fright, "Ahhhhh! Wh-what? Oh, you're the transfer student, Yui...... Yui? Oh, I must've made a mistake! This is your shoe box!" She then ran away with a red face as I just looked on, confused. What did he put in my shoe box? I opened it to see an envelope with a heart sticker sealing it. A love note? I started to read it,

'Excuse me for writing this to you out of the blue. I held my emotions back all this time because I didn't want to disrupt your studies, but I just had to tell you... I love you!'

This is really endearing and heartfelt but, this is addressed to someone else. I should try to talk to that girl again soon. Wait a second, didn't I get a love note not too long ago? Ah, that's right! It was from a senior, I think his name was Haruto Sato. I haven't gotten back to him, I should though. I went through my bag and found the note in one of the smaller pockets as I wrote on the back of it.

'I apologise for the late response, Sato~Senpai, I've been busy these last few days. I do thank you for coming to me with this note and I'm flattered by the compliment but I'm sorry. I'm not one to go on a date with someone I don't know. We could start off as friends though!'

~Yui Narukami

After a short while of trying to find Sato's shoe box and eventually finding it, I placed it in carefully as I got a text from Yosuke asking me to hang out. I text him back that I would and to meet outside the school.

Okina City, in front of Okina Station

Yosuke said something about coming here to get some coffee at this cafe called Chagall Cafe as he said it's really good. We stepped inside the cafe and ordered, he got a normal black coffee while I got an iced coffee. The flavor of the iced coffee was rich and sweet, it was like a rush of excitement was flooding through my body with every sip. It was amazing. Yosuke seemed to enjoy the face I was making while drinking my drink. So much so that he forgot about his own coffee so now he has to drink it cold.

I giggled as he took a deep breath in, "Mmmm... It's been a while since I breathed this kinda air! Y'know, I'm just a poor little city boy drawn to that urban scent. Wait a minute... Am I starting to sound like Teddie?" I'm gonna mess with him a bit, hehe! "Hmm... you are looking hairier!" Smirking, I watch as he freaks out a little. "Now that you mention it, the foam in my facial soap this morning had...! H-Hey, you're making me scare myself!" We both shared a laugh, it was really nice. "Well, that aside, what should we-" Yosuke was cut off by a notification on his phone which he looked at, "Oh, a text message. More spam... Looks like someone got my address. I get a lot of spam." he then places his phone back into his pocket. He doesn't block the numbers? I ask him that, "Even when I do, they change domains, so there's no point. And I don't wanna change my address..." the boy sighs.

"I haven't changed addresses since before we moved to Inaba. I mean, I might get a text from someone. ...It's hard to call, y'know? If I called people just to tell them my number changed, they'd get annoyed. And some of them might not wanna text me at all... Oh but hey, don't look at me like I don't have any friends!... Though to tell you the truth, I don't remember what we all used to talk about. Can't really call 'em friends... Inaba suits me just fine. Plus... I got something I need to do there. I'm counting on ya, partner!" Yosuke... I'm glad you're my partner!

Rank 3

We then left the cafe and started wandering Okina. At the same time, Yosuke told me of this move he wanted to try out in the TV World and I wanted to see it for myself. That, however, would have to wait for when we go to the other world. The sun started to set so we went back on the train back to Inaba. Yosuke walked me home again and I gave him another peck on the cheek to show my appreciation. Also so that I can see him get embarrassed too!

I walked into the Dojima household to see Nanako watching TV and... Dojima sitting at the table reading a newspaper! He's home! "Hey, Yui. How're things? You should be used to life here by now." I kinda wanna talk to him, get to know my uncle. I tell him that, "Haha, you bored? Well, have a seat. We haven't had time to talk like this since you got here, huh?" I did as he said and sat down across from him, getting an apple from the fruit bowl on the table to eat while we talked. He looked like he couldn't find the right topic to talk to me about, "Uhhh... Well, how's school?". "It's fun!" I cheerfully respond as he nods to himself, "I see... That's good to hear. Your school days will be over before you know it. Make sure you have fun while you can. What else...? Oh, yeah... How about your friends?...... Looks like you've made plenty of 'em." he's now scowling. Oh crap, he remembers Yosuke and Chie from the Police Department that one day...! "I'm not saying who you can and can't hang out with, but... You know what I'm talking about, right?" I hate to say this but, "Yes..." I know he just wants to make sure I'm making friends with the right people. He nods, "Huh. So you did notice... For some reason, wherever there's an incident, there you are... I wish I didn't have to consider this, but... the killings began around the time you came to town. My job is all about eliminating the random element. I look only at the facts. If you keep getting caught up in my job, then..." He's suspicious, oh crap... uh...!

"...What's wrong? Big sis didn't do anything bad." Thank you so much Nanako! You got me out of hole! "I-I know. I didn't mean it like that." Dojima tries to backpedal on the subject, "But you're bullying her..." but Nanako stands strong. Until Dojima said that she should go to bed in which she listened to him. "Sheesh... She's really taking a shine to you. Look, just don't get yourself involved in anything dangerous." I'm not one to lie but... this time I have to. I nod in agreement with a tang of guilt deep within my heart. "As long as you're safe, everything's fine. Your parents didn't ask me to raise your grades or anything." He really does care for me...

You feel a faint bond forming between you and Dojima...

Thou art I, and I am thou...

Thou hast established a new bond...

It brings thee closer to the truth...

Thou shalt be blessed when creating

Personas of the Hierophant Arcana

Finally, I have a social link with Dojima. "Things here might be a little different from what you're used to, but this is a good town. Though it's a little dangerous right at the moment... Now then, it's about time for you to turn in. Get some sleep. 'Night." After saying goodnight to Dojima, I went upstairs to have a shower and went to bed.

This morning was pouring and I had to hear two girls complain about the exams. Sigh... wait, doesn't Aiya have that Rainy Day challenge? If it's still raining...

~Timeskip~

It was Classic Literature and I forgot we had a teacher who has a puppet that looks like him. It's kinda creepy... "Mr. Hosoi? Have you picked up the latest volume of 'Timid Teacher' yet?" Someone asked, "Of course I did. But it's raining today. I hope I can get it home without getting it all wet... So, uh, does anyone have an extra book cover they'd be kind enough to lend me? ...Whoops, I have to start the lecture! Don't try to distract me by talking about books! Um, today we'll be covering free morphemes. Let's get out our textbooks, everyone. A free morpheme is a word that can stand alone. New words are formed by combining them with other free or bound morphemes. Some examples would be the words "tree," "juice," or "fruit." As you can guess, bound morphemes can't stand alone. Okay. Let's see if Yui-chan can answer this. Which of the following is NOT a free morpheme?"

On the board was a list of three answers, all similar to each other. Ion, Ionize and Union. But the correct answer is the one with a suffix. "Ionize is not a free morpheme." I answer, "Good job. That was kinda tricky, wasn't it? The word "ionize" can be divided into "ion"-a free morpheme-and the suffix "-ize," meaning it's not a morpheme. Understanding morphemes may give you clues about a word's meaning, so it wouldn't hurt to study them."

~Timeskip~

It was the end of the school day and I stepped out of the class to see the girl who mistook my shoe box for someone else's. "Oh... you're... D-Did you read my letter?" I'm not lying again, I tell her the truth. "H-H-How could you!? You jerk! I didn't even have the courage to sign it, and yet a totally random person now knows my secret! ...Argh! What's the point of trying to be secretive any more!? I've already embarrassed myself this much, I might as well go confess! How do you like that!?" She then ran off to I think where her crush is? I don't know, I'm just hungry. I made my way to Aiya in the downpour and ordered the Rainy Day challenge, which I didn't win sadly. Next time though!

I just thought a nice chapter full of side quests would be fun! Along with some Yosuke social link time and finally getting Dojima's social link. Hope you guys liked it too!
