I Return from the Dead
"...I thought I had pushed you out of the way."
"I'm not him." The man said, looking curiously at me, "Who are you?"
Before I could answer, a new, female voice interrupted, "Let the man breathe, Black." (So he was a Black. Just not the one I was thinking about.)
Turning, I saw a young, red-headed woman walk towards us, followed by- "Harry?"
The man behind her moved closer and it was obvious that he wasn't my little brother. For once, his eyes were hazel, not green and he was taller and older than Harry. He rushed towards me, grabbing my shoulders as he eagerly asked, "You've met Harry?"
The woman prised him off of me, "Sorry about that, we've not got anyone new here for quite some time."
I nodded numbly, looking around at the three new faces. Something mom had told me a few months ago floated into my head.
Harry looks just like his father James did when we were fifteen. He's a little skinnier and not that confident, but you really can't miss the messy Potter hair. He's got Lily's eyes. You don't know how much you reminded me of her when you were younger. It wasn't until you were four or five that your eyes became the sea-green colour they are now.
That was when it clicked in my head. (That's for all of you who think I can't deduce something) "Lily and James Potter?"
The man-James-grinned. "At your service."
I faced Not-Sirius, who had helped me up. "Uncle Regulus?"
He nodded furiously, pulling me into a hug tight enough to beat Tyson's infamous rib-cracking hugs. "You're Sally's boy, aren't you?" he asked, and I could see tears in his eyes.
"Yup. I'm Percy."
Lily Potter was watching us with a smile on her face. "How is your mother, Percy?"
"She the happiest I've ever seen her, even after staying up half the night with the babies." Regulus gave me a surprised look. "Estelle and Ezra, they're about six months old right now. Cute, but cry louder than is humanly possible. Remus had to invent special silencing spells so that the rest of the people in the house could sleep through the night."
They laughed, with Regulus saying, "That's a Black thing. Apparently, all of us were very loud babies."
I suddenly realised the significance of who I was talking to. They were all dead, which meant-"Where are we? Am I dead too?"
"You fell through the Veil of Death in the Department of Mysteries. It is a direct connection between the world of the living and the world of the dead." Regulus said.
James continued, "Now, we're in Limbo where souls can reunite with their closest family. Lily and I were summoned when you called out Sirius' name-"
Lily interrupted, "You're Percy Jackson, aren't you? The newest Olympian?"
"Gulity." I shrugged. My powers were still not working and I huffed in irritation. "How can I get to the Underworld?"
Just as I finished saying that, our surroundings changed, the field around us twisted and changed and the sky darkened till we were standing on the hilltop I recognised from Elysium. Good. Now I could get out of here much sooner.
Lily placed a hand on my shoulder as she said, "I believe you know how to go back from here, don't you, Percy?"
"I do."
"Can you please take a message from us to Sirius, Remus, Sally and Harry?"
"Of course. Siri and Rem need the closure from your deaths. Padfoot is still blaming himself for your deaths and he falls into a funk every time he remembers how bad Harry's childhood was."
James shook his head sadly. "Tell my brother that we don't blame him for what happened to us and neither should he. I wish I could teach Vernon and Petunia the lesson they deserve, but I can't and neither can I fix what happened to my son. All I ask is that you look after him as best as you can."
"I would have done that even if you hadn't asked. Harry deserves the maximum love and support possible and we're going to see that he gets it. I promise we wont leave the kid alone again."
Lily wiped a few tears as she said, "Tell my son that mum and dad love him and are so...so proud of what he's become. Tell Remus that Lily wants him to find a woman who loves him for who he is and settle down. He's allowed his lycanthrophy to dictate his life for too long. Remind him that there is still happiness left in the world; all he has to do is find it."
Regulus finished, "Tell my brother and sister that they were the best older siblings a boy could ever ask for and I was an utter idiot to not listen to them. I'm sorry for what I put them through without supporting them against Mother and Father. My death was caused by my own actions and I accepted the consequences of what I did a long time ago."
Immediately, Nico was standing in front of me, shaking his head in exasperation. "Honestly, Kelp Head. I've been busy for a few months and you somehow manage to fall through the Veil of Death?"
I batted my eyelashes at him, "Awww.... Neeks, I didn't know you cared so much."
He smirked in response, "Sorry, I'm taken. Besides, you're not even my type!"
Before I could retort, he had shadow-travelled us to 12, Grimmauld Place, dumped me on the doorstep and disappeared. Cursing my cousin, I banged on the door. I had dropped my wand when I fell into the Veil and the pain from Bellatrix's curse had returned, leaving me barely able to see straight.
The door opened and a glimpse of Remus' tear-stained and exhausted face was enough for me to collapse straight into his arms. "Lily and James say hi, Rem." I whispered, before the pain knocked me out.
When I opened my eyes the next time, I saw Sirius standing near me, wand drawn and studying my face. "Hey man. Glad you're okay." I told him.
His stern expression softened, but he demanded, "Tell me something only the real Percy would know."
"I'm your nephew and I'm playing a double role here as both Perseus Black and Percy Jackson. Mom told you who my Dad was while you ate her blue cookies. Tonks, Fred and George turned your hair purple during Christmas before-"
"It is you!" A loud shriek sounded from the doorway and I was bombarded by a mass of hair was turning from brown to bright pink.
"Hey Nymphie. Didn't think the world would lose the great and amazing Persassy so soon, did ya?"
Sirius was smiling as he scolded me for sacrificing myself for him, finishing with a - "You scared Moony out of his wits when you turned up at the door."
"How long has it been?"
"A week. The Hogwarts Express returns in ten days."
I heaved a sigh of relief. Thank the Fates. I could meet Harry right off the school train and apologise for what had happened. Hopefully, he wouldn't be too mad at me for abandoning him like that.
The rest of the day consisted of everyone hugging me and crying, (I was pretty popular here!) too happy that I was alive to ask how I had survived the Veil. Fred and George had set off one of their portable swamps in the house to celebrate my return, so it was only late that night that I was able to get together with Mom, Sirius and Remus to pass on the messages from Lily, James and Regulus.
(Yes, we did tell Remus about who I was and how I had come back. He's a werewolf, which is technically a part of our world as the first werewolf had been a man named Lycaon who had been cursed by the Gods. He was angry that Sirius and Mom had let him think I was dead, despite knowing that I couldn't have died, but he ended up forgiving us.)
There was a lot of crying and hugging and I could see that the short messages had meant so much to the three of them. It would be the same if I ever saw Annabeth again, but this was more impossible than what had happened.
To my surprise, no one except the Death Nibblers, Order Members and kids who had been at the Ministry knew I had fallen into the Veil. Al had somehow managed to convince them to keep the news a secret till Harry was back, concocting some excuse about publicity or something, so that would work in our favour.
Sirius was planning to go to King's Cross to pick Harry up and I decided to go with him. Sirius had helped me pick out an outfit that screamed 'Pureblood' and I was eagerly waiting to see the Junior Death Nibblers' expressions when they saw me alive.
And let me tell you, it was totally worth it!
Sirius and I talked to a elderly woman I was introduced to as Neville Longbottom's grandmother while waiting for the train. She thanked me profusely for saving her grandson's life and went to say how proud she was of him for what he had done at the Ministry.
We got distracted as the train pulled in and Lady Longbottom went to greet Neville. Sirius and I walked to the back end of the train where Ron and Ginny's bright red hair was visible. Harry was dragging his feet along, looking like the picture of misery, while his friends were telling him something.
I was quite surprised at how much he was affected by my 'death'. I never imagined that he cared about me so much in the little time we had spent together.
Hermione suddenly looked up and saw us, her eyes widening comically. She stopped in her tracks, her mouth open in shock as she gaped at me. Sirius and I grinned and waved as she furiously poked Harry and Ron with her wand.
Ron looked at us first, his reaction exactly like Hermione's, before Harry did a minute later.
Harry was just staring at the two of us walking towards him, before a small sob escaped from his mouth and he dropped his trunk, running full-speed at us. His arms were around my neck in seconds, the force of his hug would have definitely knocked me over if it hadn't been for Sirius who steadied me from behind.
"You're alive." He whispered in my ear.
"Course I am! Don't tell me you forgot my promise!"
"I'm so sorry. I'm so so sorry." He said, almost on the verge of crying his eyes out. "If I hadn't been dumb enough to be fooled by Voldemort than nothing would have happened!"
"It's alright, Harry. We're all fine and you learnt an important lesson that evening. Besides, without that fight at the Ministry, no one would have believed that Moldyshorts was back."
He snorted at the name. "He isn't worthy of the dumb title, so that's what they are. Moldyshorts and his Death Nibblers, or Moldyshorts and his errand-girls. Man, they sound like a band or something." I shivered, just thinking about the idea gave me the creeps.
Harry laughed and it was such a happy one that I instantly knew that he wasn't mad at me for what had happened.
Sirius thanked Ron and Hermione for looking after Harry and told them that they were welcome to visit during the summer. Saying our goodbyes to the Weasleys, we left quickly, not wanting to stay out in the open for long with Harry.
But before that, we had a run-in with Harry's Uncle, Vernon.
I has been a little skeptical when Harry had described the man as a walrus, but seeing him in person proved that Harry was being rather forgiving. The man I was seeing was bigger than any walrus I had ever seen, and believe me, you get to see a large number of them when you're a son of the sea god.
"You're another one of those freaks!" The man declared when he saw me.
Sirius, who was just behind me and Harry, dryly said, "I am a Lord, you idiot. Shut your trap and sign this before I hex you."
The guy now resembled a pufferfish, his entire face turning red and bloating. He opened his mouth to talk and I cut him off.
"We don't have time for your schist, Dursley. Sign these papers and you'll never have to see any of us again."
"You can't bully me into anything." He declared arrogantly.
It was times like these that I was glad for my crazy height. "Can't I, Dursley?" I snarled, drawing myself up to full height and staring down at him.
Sirius absently fingered his wand which was visible only to the four of us as he said, "I've already spent a decade in prison for murders I didn't commit. What's to a few more? Besides, I'll have really committed an offense this time."
There was a look of pure terror in Dursley's eyes. He had obviously recognised Sirius from. I moved away from him and innocently told my uncle, "Sirius, I doubt you'll even go to jail. No one's gonna miss this guy, and even if they do, I doubt you'll face anything heavier than a fine when they realise you got rid of a child abuser."
Dursley grabbed the guardianship papers, hurriedly scribbled his signature on them and practically ran to his car.
Harry burst out laughing. "Serves him right!"
I agreed wholeheartedly with that statement.
Sirius grinned, "Come on, kiddo. Let's go home."
