Chapter Nine
Percy was smiling like a godly idiot. A very dumb godly idiot, as Artemis had put it.
Why was he smiling? Oh thats easy, it's because Apollo had blushed like crazy when they saw the photo Eros had taken of them.
Apollo holding Percy up, while he had dipped him down. Their faces inches apart. Lost in each others eyes with twin blushes on their faces. Bodies close, one of Apollo's legs between Percy's. Apollo's hair falling across his face, Percy's hand pushing it back behind his ear. Percy's eyes as red as Apollo's hair was bright.
Percy's eyes went yellow everytime he looked at the photo. He couldn't explain it. He just felt really happy about it.
He didn't feel happy when Apollo disappeared after seeing the photograph. Artemis chased after the truth god.
I hope he's ok, Percy thought, turning around to look at the photo again.
Oh and another thing, turns out that gods can use mobile phones. Thats how Eros took the photo and sent it to every single god on Olympus. A bit overkill if you ask Percy. But Eros said it was so that if someone deleted it he would still have over a hundred backups. Which Percy also thought was a bit overkill. Seriously, its one picture, why the everloving Phobos would you need over 100 backups. Thats just crazy, even by Percy's standards.
Percy stood upon his tiptoes and searched through the crowd. Using his Dad's shoulder to balance himself.
"Who are you looking for?" Poseidon asked, looking across at his son.
"Hmm nobody," Percy answered, it was obvious that he was lying. But Poseidon didn't press for an answer.
"Your eyes are grey again, I wonder what the colours mean." Poseidon had started talking to himself and Percy used the few seconds to scan the crowd of gods again.
He saw Triton making out with a dark skinned god who was slightly taller than him. Not being a creep Percy glanced past them. Only recognising Triton from the traditional sea clothing he wore. The other one he didn't recognise.
Eros was lovingly spining his wife around in a slow dance. Looking incredibly in love with her. Reminding Percy how single he was.
Anteros was talking to Hermes about something. Hermes looked incredibly relexed and was holding something between his fingers. He offered it to Anteros who shook his head.
A goddess tapped Percy on the shoulder, "Hey."
"Um hi?" Percy said noticing how she looked. Short brown hair in a neat bob, electric blue eyes and a dress that completely covered her chest yet left her shoulders bare.
"I'm Electra, whats your name Handsome?" she said putting her arms around Percy as if to dance.
"Uh I'm Percy."
"Well you look very nice in that outfit Percy." She purred when she said his name.
"Thanks I guess."
"I wonder if you look that good without it," Electra purred moving closer to him.
Percy immediately pushed her off him, "No thank you, I'm flattered but no thanks."
Electra twirled a stand of her hair around one finger, "Are you sure? I can give you a good time?"
Percy started inching away, "I think someone's calling me, bye!" He ran off.
Electra grabbed his hand and pulled him back, "Can I change your mind?"
Ares came into his line of sight and pulled him into a side hug. "Ah Percy, just the god I was looking for!"
Electra let go of his hand and stepped back from Ares. "Lord Ares, I wasn't expecting you to want to see Percy. In fact I wasn't expecting you to talk to anyone at all, not got a love goddess to be jealous over," the goddess sneered.
Ares looked down at the minor goddess, "Are you questioning me Electra?"
Electra shook her head at the look in the war god's eye.
"Good." Ares smirked. "Now scram."
The goddess prowled away, like an animal that had just realised they were outnumbered.
Ares turned to face Percy, "Did she hurt you?"
"What? Oh right no she didn't, just being really weird thats all."
Ares scoffed, "Thats bad cuz. Now did she make you drink anything or eat anything?"
"What no? I was a bit away from Dad then she took me away to dance."
"Alright, well you are a god now-"
"Oh really? I hadn't noticed."
"You should keep yourself safe," Ares continued on. "Step one, don't look nervous. It makes you look like an easy target. Step two, when you say no, make sure you look at least slightly intimidating. Not like Hypnos on red bull."
"That makes no sense," Percy said.
Ares raised an eyebrow at his younger cousin. "Keeping yourself safe or Hypnos being woken up. I'll admit, its hard to wake him up, but not impossible. Nothing is impossible if you put time and effort in."
"That was actually pretty wise. Who are you and what have you done with Ares?"
"Oh laugh all you want but seriously stay safe kid. Now who were you looking for?"
"Why do you care?" Percy stared defiantly at the older god.
"Seeing people being treated like that is not something I can stand back and just watch. So who were you looking for again?" Ares said, adding the last bit so he wouldn't be seen as too emotional. He had a reputation to uphold.
Percy looked at the god in new light. He had the tradition looks of a greek soldier. Long hair falling in front of his forehead just as Percy's own did. Vibrant blue eyes that had seen too much horror in this world yet still shone for a better future. Light clothes with armour on top.
"Are you just going to stare at me all day or are you gonna tell me?" Ares said.
Percy blushed and looked away. Scaning the crowd unconsciously.
"So who is it? Have you got a girlfriend?"
"What? No!"
"Oooh a boyfriend then."
"You've been spending too much time with Aphrodite."
"Its a side effect of dating a love goddess. So who is it?" Ares said off handedly. Following Percy's line of sight and searching through the crowd.
"I was looking for Apollo."
"Is it because of the photo? Its because of the photo isn't it?" Ares squealed like a fangirl when her ship kissed for the first time. That is too say, extremely excited and inhuman.
"I'm going to go find him," Percy said, rolling his eyes.
Ares pulled him into a one-armed hug and pointed off the one side. "He's right there."
Percy looked where Ares was pointing and immediately brightened up when he saw that the sun god was making his way over. His smile fell when he saw the frown on Apollo's face.
"Ares," Said Apollo as a greeting. "I'll take Perseus now. You can go back to staring at Aphrodite."
Apollo grabbed Percy's arm and they both dissolved into light.
Percy was disoriented to say the least. Bright dots obscured his vision as Apollo pushed him against a wall.
"What in Dionysus' depression was that?" Apollo said his voice nearly a growl.
"What?"
"Why was Ares that close to you?"
Percy looked at the god pining him to the wall, "Ok so this is going to sound really weird and Ares said it was bad but honestly I don't know if its bad or not. Ok so I was looking for you and walked a bit away from Dad where he was talking to Hades about sealife dying. I don't think Hades was liking that conversation much because he looked really really bored and then a goddess walked up to me. She was being all flirty and all that so I felt kinda weird because I was looking for you. You'd just disappeared and I was worried because you were red and I thought you might've been sick or something. Ok so the goddess she started dancing with me leading me away from Dad, she didn't even ask if I wanted to dance which was kinda creepy. Then Ares came over all macho like and said I was the god he was looking for. Like what the Hades, I was so confused. Then he made the goddess go away and started asking if I was hurt or if she'd made me eat or drink anything. Which was terrifying because Ares was actually being nice and-"
Apollo put a hand over Percy's mouth to get him to shut up. His face had softened the more Percy talked.
"Stop," Apollo said softly.
Percy stared entranced with the god. Somehow he looked even better than he had before.
"I'll stay with you for the rest of the night," Apollo said. "Now how about drinks?"
Percy grinned under the truth god's hand as he nodded. At least he had Apollo with him now.
* * *
Percy woke up with a splitting headache. He was in the arms of a god with bright hair who was stirring awake.
Percy lazily smiled up at him, "Hey Sunshine.
The other god smiled down at him, "Hey Gorgeous."
