Chapter Eight
Apollo was pacing back and forth. Running his hands through his hair, over and over, much to Eros' displeasure.
"Will you stop ruining your hair?" Eros finally snapped. He immediately regreted it when Apollo glared at him.
"Can you not lose a god?"
"For the last time Apollo, he ran off while we were laughing. It's not a big deal," Triton said smoothly as if he wasn't panicking worse than Phobos in a themepark five minutes ago.
"MY SON IS MISSING?!" Poseidon practically screamed when he ran over to the four gods.
"NO HE ISN'T!" a voice screamed from a distance.
Kymopoleia poped up a few seconds later and pointed at Triton. "You're son is right here. Fresh as Eros on Valentines."
"Me on what?" Eros questioned.
"Nothing. Figure of speech," Kim replied waving the god off.
"It's really not," said Athena appearing out of nowhere, doing what she does best- correcting people when they're wrong. She left as soon as she made eye-contact with Poseidon.
Anteros watched her leave, then turned to his father. "Ok so there was more tension there than a bull and Pasiphaë on a friday night. Did something happen? Eros did you make something happen?"
"Nope," Eros said gleefully. The love god was wearing a bright pink dress that set him apart from everybody else as the brightest person in the room. Even over Apollo, who had his hair emitting light. His dress hugged his sides and only went over one shoulder. Leaving the other bare to show off the purple butterfly tattoo that he had donned for the night. He had told them that he was doing it for Psyche, that he always had a butterfly tattoo visible somewhere. Anteros confirmed that statement.
The sun god was wearing a navy suit that went surprisingly well with his pale yellow shirt. The top three buttons undone. His suit jacket hung open as he paced back and forth. Still running his hands through his shinning hair.
Anteros had made his wings disappear. He wore a grey suit and a pale green shirt along with it. He had it buttoned the full way up but wasn't wearing a tie because 'Ties always try to kill me, how on Atlantis are tou supposed to breathe with them.'
It pained Apollo to look at him. He looked exactly like Percy. The way his hair fell in front of his face. The way his face easily shifted through emotions. The way he held himself with silent confidence, as if to say 'No, you move'.
Poseidon gave the two love gods a tired look, obviously used to them trying to pair him and Athena together. Going on about a good enemies to lovers trope.
Apollo's eyes darted around the room. Searching for a familiar black haired god. Instead he saw Artemis waving at him. He warily walked over to where his sister stood beside Britomartis.
"Um hi I guess," Apollo greeted them.
Britomartis eyed him up and down, "Looking well Apollo. Who are you all dressed up for? A mirror?"
The two ginger goddesses smirked and Apollo deeply regreted walking over here. He was probably going to end up tied to a firework by his shoelaces.
Wait, he didn't have shoelaces. Ok that is slightly better, he thought.
"Why did you want me over here?" he asked Artemis, completely ignoring Britomartis' existence.
"You're looking for him aren't you?" Artemis said vaguely.
Apollo made a face. "Can you give me a straight answer for once?"
"Can you be straight for once?" Artemis replied.
"So thats a no then," Apollo said looking around once again.
Artemis rolled her eyes, "I'm talking about Perseus, idiot."
Apollo's head immediately snapped back to her. "Do you know where he is?"
"He should be with Aphrodite, that is if he hasn't escaped from her yet."
"I've tried, no one escapes from Aphrodite," Britomartis piped up.
Apollo ignored the goddess of nets, "Why would he be with Aphrodite?"
"She said she wanted to help him choose an outfit because she didn't trust Triton not to let him wear casual clothes." Upon seeing Apollo's concerned face she elaborated. "She asked me to get him but before I did I made her swear to the river styx not to be creepy. He should be fine, physically." She added the last part under her breath, but Apollo still heard it.
"And where is she?" Apollo demanded.
He kept telling himself that he did not care for the younger god. But that was a lie. Being the god of truth made it hard to lie to himself. He did care about him.
He wanted to keep him safe. To protect him from everything that would wish to see him harmed. To hold him in his arms and tell him that it was all ok and would always be ok. As long as he would let Apollo look out for him. Just as he had when Percy had the nightmare about Tartarus.
"There she is, go get your boyfriend," Artemis said, a small smile on her face.
Apollo twisted around to face a smiling Aphrodite and a purple eyed Perseus. Aphrodite as always was stunning, sporting a floor length blue dress. Her black hair fell poker straight down her back. Shinning green eyes glittering in the light.
But all of Apollo's attention was on Percy.
He was walking with his own silent confidence. That was set him apart from the rest of the gods, not the fact that he had Aphrodite hanging onto his arm. He was walking through as if he owned the place, or would own it someday. He was wearing a grey two-piece suit that made him look like a model. A pale green shirt that would have brought out his eyes if they were their usual sea green. His hair fell lazily in front of his face but he didn't bother to lift a hand to push it to the side.
Oh no, Apollo thought. He's hot.
Aphrodite whispered something in his ear and he turned to face her.
Apollo saw a tattoo of scales going up one side of his neck. Either he had gotten a tattoo while with Aphrodite or he had figured out how to control his appearance changing. Or that Aphrodite had drawn it on with makeup. Probably the last one. Perseus had only been a god for two weeks, it was unlikely that he had learned to control it already.
Percy's head turned around again, searching the crowd of gods staring intently at him. If it bothered him he definitely did not show it. Finally Percy's eyes met Apollo's own ones and they turned blood red.
Aphrodite and the loyalty god began walking through to get to where Apollo stood beside the two hunting goddesses. The crowd parted like the waves when Posiedon is in a bad mood. Finally the two had reached them and Apollo couldn't tear his eyes away from Percy.
Percy gave him his famous lop-sided grin, "Hey Apollo."
Apollo wanted to kiss him.
Wait where in Demeters pissed crops did that come from?
"H-Hey Percy," Apollo managed to get out after a few seconds of staring.
Artemis leaned over to her twin brothers ear and whispered, "Smooth." Using her hand to cover her mouth so that Percy couldn't see what she was saying.
Apollo faintly blushed.
Aphrodite's smile widened. She turned to Percy, "I'll leave you here, since we found your-" She glanced at Apollo. "-since we found Apollo."
Aphrodite walked off and began talking to Hepheatus as he walked along.
Britomartis clapped her hands together, "We should go too if we want to actually get some food before Ares eats it all."
Artemis nodded and walked off with the other goddess. Leaving Percy and Apollo standing there in silence.
After what felt like an age, Apollo decided to talk. "You look great."
"Uh thanks? You too." Percy looked him up and down. "Very... Bright."
Apollo laughed as music started up. Gods started getting together in pairs to dance.
Apollo offered Percy his hand, "Do you want to dance?"
"I don't really dance, Apollo."
"It'll be fine, just follow my lead," Apollo said smoothly. He had gotten his embarrassing blush under control.
"Alright," Percy said hesitantly, grabbing the older god's hand.
Apollo grinned and pulled him closer as the music slowed down. Somehow he knew that it wasn't the muses doing their enchanted music. Where everybody hears what they want to hear, but they were actually playing a slow song.
Apollo put his arms around Percy's waist and Percy wrapped his arms around Apollo's neck. They started swaying in time to the music.
"I thought you didn't dance," Apollo said, smiling warmly at the other god.
"I don't, but Annabeth made me learn while we were still dating. She always wanted to lead for some reason," Percy said, making eye-contact with Apollo. He eyes still perfectly red.
"Your eyes are red again," Apollo mused.
Percy made a face, "Aphrodite kept going on about how they kept changing. It got annoying pretty quick, especially since she wouldn't tell me what colours they were turning."
"Was she being weird at all? Did she make you uncomfortable?" Apollo questioned, his protectiveness showing.
"Not really, she had a bunch of suits and shirts out and made me try them on. Then took the ones she didn't like away and let me choose what one I liked." Percy made a face. "There was a lot of shirts."
"I'm glad that you're ok," Apollo said.
Percy looked to the side and blushed.
Apollo really wanted to kiss him. He wanted to know what it felt like to have Percy's lips on his. He wanted to tell him that he thought he was adorable without having to worry about rejection.
"Yeah me too," Percy said.
Apollo had to remind himself that Percy meant that he was glad that he was ok. Not consenting to kissing him.
Percy met his eyes again, "What are you thinking about?"
Apollo blushed and looked away.
The song was coming to an end. So Apollo dipped Percy down so he wouldn't ask what he was thinking about again. It would be embarrassing to tell someone that you were thinking about kissing them. Wouldn't it?
Only when Apollo had realised that he had dipped Percy down did he realise that they had been pretty close the whole time.
Percy must have realised it too because a light blush was across his cheeks.
There was a soft click to one side but both of the gods ignored it, because they were lost. Lost in eachothers eyes.
