It had been 2 days since Alex and Isabella kissed, and she still hadn't told Raven. She was preparing to tell her sister. Raven's reaction wasn't the one she was worried about it was Charles. Especially since he could read minds. Of course, Isabella can stop him by putting a forcefield in her mind but sometimes if her guard is let down he can get in there.
She found Raven sitting in her bedroom, reading a magazine, and rushed over to her.
"Raven, I need to tell you something," Isabella said.
"Are you ok? What's the matter?" Clearly worried about her sister as it seemed serious, but Bella was always a bit of a drama queen.
"Alex and I kissed!" She came right out with it.
Raven looked up from her book, a smirk spreading across her face.
"Oh my god, Isabella," she replied. "I knew something was going on between you!"
Isabella rolled her eyes. Then she recounted the story of how they had been looking at the stars in the palm of her hand, and how they both felt a strong connection. She talked about how they had shared a gentle and sweet kiss. Raven listened intently, beaming with happiness for her sister.
"I'm so happy for you, Isabella," Raven said, enveloping her sister in a warm hug. It was a lot for Isabella. It was nice for the sisters to have normalcy again, to gossip and be kids as they should be. Isabella smiled, feeling grateful for her sister's support and excitement, and knew that she could always count on Raven to be there for her.
"You cannot tell Charles!" Isabella exclaimed, knowing her brother would probably go haywire if he found out. Maybe she was overreacting but Charles had always been overprotective, of both his sisters and especially Isabella because of her anxiety.

"Is this a joke?"
"Absolutely not."
Charles, Alex, and Belle were standing in the nuclear bunker beneath their home and Charles had just made an outlandish suggestion. He had asked his sister to stand at the other end of the room and for Alex to use his powers. Given the last time he did so, he set fire to the entire room, Charles hoped that Isabella would be able to phase through the blast since the only thing she has ever phased through is a wall,
"No, I am not doing that," Alex said. "What if I kill her?"
"It hopefully shouldn't come to that," Charles replied. Of course, he wouldn't want his sister to die, but he has faith that she can do it.
"It's okay, I think I can do it- no I know I can," Isabella reassured. In all honesty, she wasn't sure, but she didn't want to make the two men in front of her nervous so she put on a fake confidence.
"Right, whenever you're ready." He gave his sister a small hug before walking out of the bunker and closing the doors. Isabella watched him go before she turned to Alex.
"You're not going to hurt or kill me I promise." She spoke grabbing both of his hands.
"Look, I really don't want to do this." He sighed.
"Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of this arrangement either," Isabella replied, rubbing her thumb over the back of his hand.
"But I trust you, okay?"
"You're trusting me not to kill you?" Alex asked. "When this all relies on you projecting my powerful laser blast?" He said sarcastically.
Isabella nodded. "Yes," she kissed his cheek before going to the other end of the room from Alex, Belle took a deep breath. This was risky, but she knew that if anything happened to her when Alex used his powers, then he would never forgive himself. She couldn't let him have this on his conscience, especially when he already felt guilty enough about other things.
"Okay, whenever you're ready, Alex," Bella called.
"You ready?"
"Ready to try and not get cooked?" Isabella asked. "Yeah, I'm as ready as I'll ever be."
She took another deep breath as Alex summoned the rings of energy around himself. Isabella watched the rings spinning around Alex's body before he released them, and she imagined the guilt he would feel if she were to die because of him. As the rings flew toward her, she enclosed them in a forcefield, which became smaller and smaller each second until the forcefield absorbed the rings. She dropped her hands, watching the blend of energy disappear.
She then felt Alex's arms around her waist, picking her up and spinning her around as he let out a relieved laugh.
"You're not dead!" he exclaimed, putting Isabella back down.
She couldn't help but laugh. "Yeah, apparently I'm not."
"That was awesome, Star," Alex said.
Charles opened the doors of the bunker, finding it in flames, but Alex and Isabella were unharmed. "I see it worked."
"Yeah," Isabella nodded.
"See, I knew you could do it, belle. Imagine what else you could do." Charles said.
"Alright, you two, you can relax for now. I have to meet with Hank."
When he was gone, Alex and Isabella turned to one another and he hugged her again.
"I'm so glad you're not dead."
"Me too, We should probably put these fires out though, before we do get cooked."
Alex laughed. "Yeah, probably.

Isabella couldn't help but giggle at Alex's comment as Hank and Charles fitted the vest over his chest. Hank had designed an apparatus that would hopefully channel Alex's power and prevent him from losing control, thus minimizing the number of things he could set fire to. It wasn't exactly a pretty design, but if it worked then that didn't matter.
"Well, this is just the prototype," Hank said. "The real one will look considerably better and it'll be a whole suit. See, these sensors measure your energy output. This panel focuses it and the excess is absorbed."
"Try hitting the one in the middle," Charles said, referencing the mannequins he had positioned at the other end of the room. "Just the one in the middle, mind. Good luck."
The three of them left Alex alone in the room and waited. When the light on the wall turned red, Charles reopened the doors and revealed Alex lying flat on the ground. Isabella giggled as she walked over to him and helped him to his feet, eyeing the mannequins that were on fire. The middle one was unaffected by the flames, but the two outer ones were lit on fire.
"I swear he said hit just the middle one," she said, as Alex got up.
"Yeah, haha, very funny," Alex replied.
"Alright, I'll deal with the fire," Charles said. "Did it work well?"
"Yeah, almost too well," Alex replied. "Knocked me right down."
"Well, practice makes perfect," Charles said. "We'll try again tomorrow."
The next day, they were back in the bunker, and Charles positioned a mannequin in the middle of the room, marking the target with an X made of black tape. Hank and Isabella stood on either side of the mannequin.
"Wonderful work, Hank," Charles said. "Thank you very much. Alright, Alex, I want you to hit the X and try not to hit Hank or Isabella. There's a good chap."
"You're serious?" Alex asked.
"I'm very serious," Charles replied. "I have complete and utter faith in you."
Hank side-stepped away from the mannequin.
Bella smiled at Alex. "You got this, Alex. Try not to hit us." She joked although Hank looked very uneasy, clearly not enjoying the sarcasm.
"I'll try my best not to."
Alex fired a beam of energy at the mannequin, which caught on fire as Isabella and Hank moved aside to avoid getting burnt, and when they realized that they weren't dead, Bella and Hank high-fived one another.
"Am I still a bozo?" Hank asked.
"Yes, Hank, you're still a bozo," Alex replied. "But nice job."
Isabella grinned at Hank. "I think it's amazing Hank. Well done."
"Thanks, Isabella," Hank smiled. "That means a lot."

The president gave his address on television that afternoon, which all of the new residents of Belle's home gathered around the living room to watch. She sat between Raven and Alex. Her hand holding onto the latter.
"It shall be the policy of this nation to regard any nuclear missile crossing the embargo line that surrounds Cuba as an attack by the Soviet Union on the United States, requiring a full retaliatory response—"
"That's where we're gonna find Shaw," Erik said.
"How do you know?" Alex asked.
"Two superpowers facing off and he wants to start World War Three," Charles replied. "He won't leave anything to chance."
"So much for diplomacy," Erik said. "I suggest you all get a good night's sleep."
