Debunking Myths #1

Okay so here's some common misconceptions about periods that I found from some period books I have!

The book title is Celebrate Your Body, for ages 8+. There is a Celebrate Your Body 2 for ages 10+ that has more details and graphics about periods, hormones, the reproductive system, etc.

Check them out! They should be on Amazon or on Kindle.

Anyway, here are some myths I found about periods!

-(*) Blood Moon

For a while, people have believed that periods are linked to the moon. The menstrual cycle is 28 days while the Moon phases are 29.5. Studies have proven that periods are not in fact linked to the moon.

-(*) Linked Periods

Another myth is the idea that if you live with woman (or just people with uteruses in general) that you would expect your periods at the same time. This is not true. Studies were taken about lots of bleeders who lived together and their periods still arrived at different times.

-(*) Shark Week

Something I found absolutely hillarious; that if your swimming in the ocean on your period, the shark can smell your blood. This is totally false. They can't smell your bleeding. Besides, there's tampons for that. <3

This one isn't really a myth, but it is something I wanna address. Period Trackers. They seem reliable, yes, but not always. Periods are most likely spontaneous and, obviously, a bit messy. You can use a tracker if it makes you comfortable, but I also recommend making sure you put pads + and tampons in a bag you can bring with you when you're out. Besides, someone, like a friend, could need a pad or tampon and you'd be prepared!

That's all for now! I'll continue this later <3
