8. Just Friends

Dante

"I don't know, something seems fishy." Micheal says over the phone after I invited him for dinner.

"Are you coming or not?"

"I don't know. You don't usually let anyone in your house. Why the sudden interest now? What's really the reason?"

"Alright, fine. Daniel wants to have dinner with Diana and our friends to see if we're legit. I'm hoping he'll lay off after this so I can pay Diana and go about my life."

He pauses for a minute before responding, "I'll be there."

"Good. Bring some friends."

"What are those?" He says.

"Micheal just bring a few of the guys. Ricky, Jamal, you know."

"So your employees? Because those are literally my coworkers. Speaking of that, I'm still pissed off about you firing John for not cleaning the money on time. He bought me lunch every-"

"It wasn't just because he didn't wash the money on time, he also stole clean money from the warehouse and he smells like shit. Literal dog shit. I didn't pay him that much just not to wash his ass."

"Alright, that's valid. He did smell like shit, I'll give you that. So I can bring Jerry, right?"

"Not fucking Jerry. He's another shitter. I bet he doesn't even wipe his ass. "

"You're a goddamn asshole man."

"Not an asshole. Just honest. Be here by seven." I say before hanging up.

It had just turned five, so I figured I had about an hour and thirty minutes to make dinner.

I hadn't invited anyone over for dinner, so I didn't know what to make. If I didn't like cooking I would have said fuck it and bought take out. But I enjoyed cooking and baking. A lot.

When I was a little boy and my dad was out, I always made cakes for ma. I remember the smile on her face as she took her first bite.

At the grocery store, I picked up the ingredients for a home baked lasagna along with chocolate chip cookies.

After preheating the oven, I start on the brown beef and sausage. Once that is done and I drain the fat, I begin the noodles.

There is a knock on the door when I am about to put the oil in.

"Whoever it is, you're gonna have to wait outside I said seven."

When I open it, I see Diana and I raise an eyebrow at what she has brought.

"Most people bring a dish of food or wine. But a napkin?"

"I'm broke and I can't cook. My options were limited. Be grateful I brought anything," She grins and hands me the napkin.

I accepted it and put it in my pants pocket. I run my eyes over her appearance. Her red hair is thrown in a neat bun, and she is still wearing her green scrubs.

She must have just gotten off work.

I watch as she puts her hands in her pants pocket.

I wonder if she's ever been fucked in scrubs before?

"Stop looking at me like that."

"Like what?"

"Like you want to fuck me or something. It's weird."

"I do." I admit with no shame. I open the door wider for her to come in and her eyes grow wide as she steps inside.

"You're joking, right?"

I glance at her ass before averting my eyes as I close the door and go back to the kitchen.

"Whatever helps you sleep at night babe."

"Don't call me that." She looks around for a place to sit. "Can I sit here?" She asks, pointing to the couch.

"Yeah. I said I would pick you up though.' I reply, adding a Little oil to the noodles.

"I know. I don't need your help, so stop treating me like a helpless loser, alright?" She snaps.

"Why is it so difficult for you to accept someone's help, Diana?"

"It's not."

"Obviously it is. Every time someone tries to help you do anything, you make it seem like they're fucking trying to murder you or something."

"No I don't. I'm perfectly fine with help from other people." She denies and I look over to see her staring at the blank television screen as she plays with the ends of her hair.

"Keep telling yourself that."

She turns around, "Look, I didn't come to argue with you alright? Let's just get this dinner over with so hopefully I won't be able to see you ever again."

"Fine by me."

Soon the noodles are done and I start with the sauce.

"What's that smell, anyway?" She gets up from the couch and begins sniffing the air as she comes closer.

"Lasagna for tonight."

"You can cook?"

"I'm practically a professional chef, Diana." I responded, offended at the question.

She snickers, "Okay."

"You think I'm not?"

"I didn't say that."

I take that as a challenge. That was the only thing I cared about when someone was talking about me.

I take a spoon and fill it with the meat. Pulling her mouth down before she can object and gently putting it in her mouth. I take the spoon out once the meat is inside.

I watch carefully as she chews, and am taken aback at her low groan. I never thought I would like a sound so much.

"Okay, I'll give you that. That meat is amazing," She says, backing up.

She goes back to the couch and I get back to the lasagna. I turn the television on for her and give her the remote. An hour goes by and the lasagna is done. I wait for Daniel and my friends to arrive.

"Someone's at the door." Diana says as she sits down at the table.

I go to answer it and see they have arrived. Micheal, Jamal, Andrew and one of my employees at the casino I couldn't remember the name of.

"Before you come in, I need you to hand over all of your weapons." Everyone listens and I collect two hand guns each from everyone but I know Micheal has more.

"I said all of your weapons." I order Micheal and he laughs at being caught and hands over a knife and a Tommy gun. I don't let them go inside yet as I take the weapons to my garage before returning.

"And any fake money, weed, anything like that give it here. We're keeping it pg tonight."

"So no fun at all." Jamal says.

"Would you rather it be your life I'm taking? I'm sure little Gracie at home wouldn't be too happy about receiving her father's head in a box."

He doesn't respond, and I nod. "Good." I open the door and they walk inside. As soon as I am about to close the door behind them, I see a green Ford park on the side of the street. Shortly after, Daniel gets out and walks up to me.

"What the fuck is that?" I ask, referring to the hideous green and red suit he has on.

"Mr. Stone." He greets, ignoring my question and offering a hand shake. I deny it and open the door.

He walks in and I close the door behind me. When we get to the table, everyone is seated.

"You know Christmas is not until December, right?" Micheal asks, laughing. Diana and the others laugh quietly at his remark.

"Nice to see you again, Micheal." Is all Daniel says.

"Is it even legal for you to have dinner with us?" Micheal asks

"Everyone in the station wants you guys and your whole little gang, Micheal. So yes, the chief was more than happy to agree to this." Daniel says proudly.

I set the plates down and when I sit next to Diana, Everyone begins to eat.

Diana moans softly as the fork full of lasagna goes in her mouth and all eyes land on her. She turns to me and my eyes instantly go to her mouth. I cover my mouth to stop the laugh that was trying to escape at her look of embarrassment.

"Did you just moan?" Micheal asks laughing.

"No." Diana denies.

"Yes you di-"

"Drop it." I tell Michael.

Everyone continues to talk and eat for the remainder of dinner. Once an hour has gone by, everyone is finished eating and talking to each other individually. Diana tells me about her day at work as well.

Throughout dinner Micheal talks about the sandwich he had this morning until Daniel speaks.

"How's your brother, Carter, doing Dante?" He asks.

I clench my jaw. This only confirms what my dad had said. Carter was the snitch. I didn't want to believe it, knowing what I would have to do about it.

"He's alright." I take a sip of water. "How's yours?" I ask, knowing fully well he had died last year. I had to go to his funeral with my mom to pay her respect since they used to date back in the day.

"I'm going to see his graveyard tomorrow. Thanks for asking."

Diana gasps but doesn't say anything.

"I have a joke." Jamal says.

We wait for him to speak.

"Did you hear about the first restaurant to open on the moon?"

"No?"

"It had great food, but no atmosphere."

Diana begins to laugh at his joke and I quickly become irritated.

Since when did he become a comedian?

When Jamal smiles at her and she smiles back, I've decided I've had enough.

"Alright, Diana's tired, so it's about time for you guys to leave." I stand up

"No I'm-"

"She has to get up early for work. " I look over at Diana and she glares at me.

I walk them to the door and they walk out one by one. Daniel grins. "I'm not fully convinced about this relationship yet. Your friends are not very close with you guys, I see. Let's have dinner with your families, yeah?" He pats my shoulder and walks away.

The rest of them get their weapons and Micheal salutes me before leaving, Andrew and the other guy who I still can't remember do the same. When it is Jamal's turn, I say,

"I got a joke."

He smiles, "What is it, man?" He asks and walks to the doorway.

"You're fired." I say before slamming the door.

Walking back to Diana, she asks, "What's your deal with detective Daniel, anyway?" She takes the dishes to the kitchen.

"I don't like him." I mumble, helping her. She turns the sink water on and begins to wash the dishes. I stand next to her and turn the other faucet on.

"You've made that clear. " She replies, handing me a plate to rinse.

"He's the same detective that put my dad away. The same day my dad handed me the Mafia, they arrested him."

She goes silent for a while as she washes and I rinse them, placing them in the dishwasher.

"How long was he in prison?"

"They didn't have much evidence, but whoever snitched on him gave them more than they needed. Judge charged him with five years and a huge ass fine he's still paying off."

Once we are done with the dishes, she stares at me for a moment before turning away, "I should get going."

"Stay." I say. "Play a game of pool with me."

"Fiona p-"

"One game."

"I don't even know how to play."

"Just one game baby."

She rolls her eyes. "Fine, and don't call me that."

I smile and lead her to the pool table and hand her a cue.

I stand on the other side to demonstrate. "Alright so, we're playing eight ball pool, but first you need to learn how to hold your cue, which is the stick in your hand. First, put your non-dominant hand on the table, seven to nine inches behind the cue ball. And with the other hand, grip the shaft of the cue a few inches above the base." I demonstrate what I have just said.

"Do you unders-"

She follows and when she bites her lip in concentration my dick twitches and I stop talking.

Was I really turned on by Diana biting her lip? Yes. Yes I was.

She almost has the stance right, but is not quite there.

I walk toward her, "You don't know what you do to me when you bite your lip like that, Diana."

I stand behind her, making sure my dick isn't on her ass, but I am leaning over her. I put my hands on hers and tilt the cue slightly. She bites her lip again as I move forward.

She pushes the cue further, and it hits the ball. "Like that?" She asks softly.

"Yeah, just like that." I say just as my tip reaches her ass.

She gives a low moan as she pushes the ball.

"Dante." She says, her breathing rising.

"Say it baby."

She is about to say something but pauses. Almost as if a switch has gone off, she speaks again, "I need to go." Her voice goes back to normal and when she puts the pool cue down, I back up.

She walks all the way to the door before stopping. "What did Daniel think? Did he believe it?"

"Said he wasn't sure. He wants to have dinner with our families. Diana, what happened?"

"Okay, just send me the details. Dinner was great, gotta go." She says before rushing out the door.
