23. Act natural: Failed
Dante
"Showtime, showtime!" Diana shouts as I walk down the steps.
"It's not a movie, Diana. You're supposed to act natural."
I grunt trying to fix my tie. Diana had made me wear this stupid suit because Detective Daniel was coming and I told him were were living together. She was determined to make this convince him.
"Come here." She says and I walk to her.
She is standing in front of the couch and has just shut the television off. I stand in front of her and she stands on her tippy toes. She begins fixing my tie and I stare at her red lips. She had matched it with the red shirt she was wearing.
Plump and sexy, just looking to be fucked. I become turned on quickly. Diana has that effect on me, I just couldn't get enough of her.
I could tell she expected me to treat her differently or react a certain way after telling me what happened to her. But that only made me like her more. She was brave and it made me understand why she was the way she was. I admired her if anything.
"What happened to the black tie? That matched more."
I shrug, "Yeah I was going to but nah. Didn't really like it."
She finishes fixing the tie and looks up at me with a frown. I smile at how adorable she looked when she did that and kiss her softly. She kisses me back and moves away.
"You're going to mess up my lipstick." Diana says just as Fiona comes down the stairs in her overalls.
"Do we have to have to do this?" She grumbles.
Diana walks to Fiona and starts fixing her hair. "If I hear one of you complain again, I'm going to scream."
My mind goes the other way when she says this and I grin, "You were doing that last ni-"
"Shut up, Dante." She warns and I don't continue.
When Diana has finished Fiona's hair, Fiona and I take a seat at the bar stool as Diana goes to the guest bathroom.
"A suit?" Fiona asks in surprise
"Yeah I didn't like it at first but I'm kind of digging it now."
I only liked it because Diana had touched it and left her scent on it. Now I was smelling like vanilla and hospitals.
"I don't like it." She says plainly, staring at my suit in disgust.
I glance at her green overalls, and scowl. "Well what about you?"
"What about me?"
"Who wears green overalls? Black, blue, sometimes even red is acceptable. But green?"
She doesn't respond and only folds her arms staring at me with a scowl. I smile at her reaction and pinch her cheek. Talking in a mock baby voice to annoy her I say, "Aww, did I hurt whittle Fiona's feewings?"
She swats my hands away and tries to hit me but I dodge. I frown and stand up. Pulling my pants up slightly and putting my fists in my face.
"You want to fight, Fiona?"
She grins and stands up. Matching my stance with her fists up she replies, "Let's go."
"Bet. I'm warning you right now, I won't hold back."
"Me neither. I'll have ya dizzy." She jumps to try and hit me but I dodge again.
"Is that right? Alright don't start calling for your Mama when I have you in a headlock."
She continues to try to hit me and I lift her up, throwing her on my back. She begins kicking her feet .
"Put meh down, put meh down!"
I run upstairs and when I reach my room I drop her on the bed. She kicks my mouth and I stumble back in shock. Her hand covers her mouth as she stares at me surprised at what she has done.
Holding my mouth, I stare at her with my mouth agape before speaking. "Do you just kick me?"
She bites her nails the same way Diana does, "No." She mumbles.
I begin walking to her and she backs up on the bed. "Yes you did. You goddamn hit me."
"N-no, no I didn't. That was a hallucination. It never happened."
"Oh, it's on now." She screams as I reach the bed and hops off before I catch her.
"Momma! Momma!" She screams running out of the room. I chase after her as she runs down the stairs in search of Diana.
As we reach the living room Fiona bumps into Diana walking out of the kitchen and goes behind her back.
"What the hell?"
"He started it." She says
So that's how she wants to play it.
"It's like that, huh? It's like that Fiona?"
Ultimate betrayal.
Diana moves and Fiona follows her.
I glared at her, "Watch your back kid, watch your back." I say as they walk back in the kitchen.
There is a knock on the door and I check the peephole. I grumble, seeing Daniel has arrived.
"Is that him?" Diana asks.
"Yeah." I reply and open the door.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Stone and his family." Daniel greets and I open the door wide enough for him to come inside.
Diana and Fiona meet us at the entry as I close the door behind him. He shakes their hands and when he comes to me I deny it.
Taking a pen out and clicking it on the clipboard he is holding, he grins.
"I assume you both know why I am here, correct?"
"Yes." Diana and I respond.
"Good. With your brother's sudden passing this has only increased the chief to want your entire family in prison, as you are the top suspects. So unless you can provide me good enough evidence you are together and had nothing to do with Carter's death, someone in your family will be going to jail."
After Daniel says this I turn to Diana and see she has started to panic.
"Well, let's start then!" She says.
For the next forty five minutes, Daniel sits on the living room couch, talking to Diana and Fiona as I stay in the kitchen, eyeing his every move.
Next, Diana gives him a tour of the house to try and prove we live together. Last night she had decorated almost every room to try and make it seem, 'Couply' and left her clothes in my closet and makeup stuff in my bathroom to be 'extra safe' she had said.
When they are done with this, Daniel asks us the same questions they had asked in the police station the first time. Except this time I get all of them right, which I am proud of.
Now we sit in my office waiting for what he has to say.
"I want to talk to you both." He turns to Fiona. "Privately."
Diana tells Fiona to go in the living room until we are finished and she does.
"I must say I have noticed a few things have changed since I last saw you. To claim you have lived together for a while now, it doesn't quite seem like it. It seems one sided, you know? When I get the evidence, and one of you is in prison, I will make it clear that you guys were amazing actors."
My jaw clenches at his confidence and when I am about to reply, Diana touches my arm.
"I can assure you, Dante and I are together. "
Daniel shakes his head, "Look if you guys admit it now, I'll even cut a few years o-"
"We're getting married on October fifteenth!" Diana shouts and Daniel and I turn to her, surprised.
"That's two weeks from now." He says
"Exactly! We wanted to wait a while let everyone know the date but it's out! Dante and I are finally tying the knot in two weeks."
She leans on my shoulder and pinches my arm.
"Right, yep. Two weeks. We're getting married in two weeks." I chime in.
Daniel stares at Diana and then at me and back at Diana before walking to my office door.
He stares for a while longer as if liking to watch us come up with new lies.
God, I hate him
After a moment, he smiles, "I guess I'll see you at the wedding." He replies before leaving.
Diana leads him out and I flop in my chair.
What the hell were we supposed to do now? This was supposed to be the last time I saw that son of a bitch.
Diana walks back in and I frown at her.
"What?" She asks, closing the door.
"What the hell do you mean, 'What?' what was that?"
"I don't know, I freaked out okay. I panicked! I was trying to find something to shut him up and I thought of that."
"That's what you thought of? Actually getting married? How are we supposed to do that?"
"I don't know!" She begins pacing, "Oh my gosh, this is bad, this is bad. I messed up so bad. Why would I say that! I should have just said something else."
She smacks her head and I frown harder at the sight. "But no, classic Diana had to go on and say the most idiotic idea! Gosh, we are so caught."
She continues to rant and I stand up, "God damnit, Diana would you calm down for five minutes!"
She stops talking and faces me. I walk infront of my desk and lean on it. "Let's just figure this out. "
She stands next to me and I continue.
"It's going to be fine. We'll plan a small wedding, nothing special. Invite everyone to make it look legit. Get married and as soon as everything is cleared we'll divorce, alright?"
She nods and exhales deeply, "You're right. Everything is going to be fine. I was just panicking as usual."
I smile, "Good. Let's get some dinner. I'm starving."
I decide to order Chinese tonight and Fiona, Diana and I eat as we watch television. After dinner I search for an available wedding planner and manage to find one. Juliet, a woman in her late fifties. She was the most acceptable compared to the others I had tried that didn't even pick up the phone. I set an appointment for us to meet with her tomorrow.
Diana insists on taking the bus home, but I convince them to stay over again. They had been over most of the week so I didn't have a problem with it.
We play Monopoly for the fourth time this week and Fiona wins. I didn't mind though. Playing Monopoly repeatedly beats playing pool alone every night any day. And I just enjoyed having them over. I felt at peace whenever I was with them even if they were being anything but peaceful.
After this, Fiona goes to the guest room and Diana and I in my room. I was thinking of buying some things to decorate the guest room for Fiona. She was the only one that was ever in it, so why not make it hers. But I didn't want to push her. Plus I was nervous to ask, not wanting to cross the line.
A few hours later we are all asleep. The next morning we wake up already ten minutes late so we have to rush. Since it was Saturday, Fiona and Diana didn't need to go anywhere so we were able to get to the appointment quickly.
Now sitting in the waiting room to meet with the wedding planner I fill out the form she had given us. Diana had finished early and was now taking her phone out.
Most of it is personal questions like my age, and occupation. Others are questions that could help her, such as what I like and things like that.
I glance at Diana and see she is still untangling her headphones and is starting to get irritated. I chuckle and take them from her. After a few gentle tugs I am able to get it untangled. I turn to Fiona who wanted to tag along and notice she is also trying to untangle her headphones.
I take hers as well and shortly after hand it back to her untangled.
They watch whatever they are watching quietly as I fill out my form. There is a question that makes me laugh. It reads,
"What words best describes your significant other?"
This outta be a while.
