Chapter 23

Y'all my brother was legally able to buy a rifle at the age of 17 (without any sort of paperwork) but even at 19 he wasn't allowed into a Costco even when he had a parent's permission (if you don't know Costco is just a store like Walmart)

"What's going on?" Linda asked when she got home.

"F-Frank was arrested," I whimpered.

I was feeding both my daughters but I just wanted to go and crawl into bed and cry.

"Arrested?! For what?!" She asked.

"M-Mr. Iero sexually assaulted me and F-Frank took a bat to his car and tried attacking his dad too," I said.

"H-he...he what?" Linda whispered.

"He crawled into bed with me and s-started touching me and he j-jerked off to me," I whimpered.

"No...h-he wouldn't," she denied.

I sniffled and looked down. Frank Sr. walked downstairs and I whimpered

"Frank, you have to go and bail our son out of jail," she said.

"Why should I do that?" Frank Sr. asked. "He should just rot there, you, me, Gee and the twins can just go off and move to Wisconsin and leave him here to rot."

"H-he's my baby," Linda whimpered.

"He tried taking my head off with a bat," he said.

"D-did you really touch Gee?" She asked.

"Of course not," he denied.

Linda looked at me and I knew she was taking my side over his.

"Frank, sh-she's seventeen, she's just a kid," Linda whispered.

"A kid?" He scoffed. "She has two kids of her own, she's the one who's always flaunting her tits around."

"She's feeding her children!" Linda shouted.

Frank Sr. slapped her and she whimpered. From the look on her face I could tell this wasn't the first time he's hit her.

"Don't talk to me like that," he spat.

I sniffled as I pulled my babies away, pulling down my shirt. I held them to my chest protectively as I cried.

"Please just don't press charges on my son," Linda begged. "I-I'll go with you to Wisconsin, it could be just the two of us there."

Frank Sr. huffed and went off to the kitchen as Linda quickly hurried after. I sniffled and carried my daughters upstairs. I could hear shouting downstairs and I sobbed as I hugged my babies.

"It's gonna be okay," I whispered.

My phone rang and I set the babies into their cribs, answering quickly.

"Baby, a-are you okay?" Frank asked.

"I-I'm scared," I whimpered.

"Please, Baby, Just leave," he begged. "Go stay the night at Jamia's or Lindsey's or something. It's starting to get late and I don't want you there with that bastard."

"Frank, He's abusive," I whispered.

"Can I talk to my mom?" He asked.

I nodded, hurrying downstairs to hand her the phone. They talked quietly before she handed the phone back to me.

"I love you, Baby, but I have to go now," he said. "Give the girls kisses for me."

"I love you too," I whispered.

The call ended and I sniffled as I wiped my eyes. I wrote a quick note before packing a bag and I packed the kids up into the car without them noticing. I drove back to my house, sniffling as I stood on the front step.

"Ah, Miss Way," the maid, Etta, said when she answered the door. "Come in, Come in, your family is eating dinner and there is plenty enough for you too."

She ushered me in as she cooed at the babies.

"Oh, they are so pretty," she said. "They have your eyes! Congratulations!"

I smiled sadly and walked into the dining room. They looked up when I walked in and I sniffled, wiping my eyes.

"What are you doing here, Genevieve?" My mom asked.

"I-I need to stay the night," I whispered. "I can't go back to frank's house, not right now."

"We told you this was a mistake," my dad stated. "You thought you could have a happy family but you can't because you got pregnant at sixteen and of course Frank wasn't going to just stick around."

Etta came in with another plate of food and sat me down across from Mikey. I ate quietly before taking my daughters out of their car seats.

"Do you wanna meet your grandkids?" I asked.

"Whoa, cool, I'm an uncle," Mikey said. "They're small."

He walked around the table after we finished eating and I handed him Cherry.

"Yeah they were born premature," I said. "Little Lily here was four pounds seven ounces and Cherry was five pounds four ounces."

"So do they just like sleep and poop and stuff?" He asked.

"They're only three weeks old, they can't really do much else yet," I said.

I smiled down at Lily, letting her hold my pinky finger. The two of us went upstairs to my bedroom where it was mostly empty from me moving out but still the same.

"Are you moving back in?" He asked.

I shrugged. "It depends on whether or not Frank gets sentenced to jail. If he does then I'm gonna try and move back in."

"What'd he get arrested for?" He asked.

"Smashing up his dad's car and hitting him with a baseball bat," I said.

"I thought his dad skipped town years ago," he said.

"Yeah But he came back and he's an absolute douche," I said. "Is our crib still in the basement?"

He nodded and I put my babies back in their seat. I helped him pull the crib upstairs and bring it into my room, putting both of my daughters in it.

"Are you gonna drop out of school?" Mikey asked.

"I don't know," I mumbled. "I haven't really decided yet."

I mean, I should be the one taking care of my kids, not Linda. And I can't exactly just take breaks during class just to pump.

"So was Frank arrested and everything?" He asked.

I sniffled and nodded.

"Sounds so cool," he said.

I kicked him off the bed and he scowled.

"You should move back in here so that way since I'm starting high school next year then I won't have to take the bus."

"Shut up," I said.

"Is that a wedding ring?" Mikey asked. "Are you two married?"

"No, it's a promise ring," I said. "It means we're promised to each other and we're gonna get married one day but just not yet."

He nodded, looking at it on my finger. My hands have finally gone down from being swollen so I could finally wear my ring on my finger.

"Okay, get out now," I said.

Mikey sighed before walking out, shutting the door behind him. I turned on the tv and laid there for a while before there was a knock on my door.

"Come in," I said.

Etta walked in with a box in her arms.

"I found some of your old clothes," she said. "I thought that maybe your daughters could have them."

I smiled when I looked at all the pretty dresses and expensive clothes.

"Thank you, Etta," I said.

"They're a little big, they're gonna need to grow into them," she said. "How premature are they?"

"They were born at thirty-five weeks," I said.

"Oh, not too bad for twins," she said.

"W-will you watch them while I take a shower?" I asked.

"Of course," she said. "I'll get you some fresh towels."

She walked off before coming back with an armful if warm, fluffy white towels.

"I'm glad you're back, it's been so empty here without you," she said.

"I don't know if I'm staying just yet," I said.

She smiled anyways and kissed my cheek. I went into the bathroom and turned on the shower. I couldn't help it as I broke down sobbing when I stepped inside. I wrapped my arms around myself, crying heavily as my tears mixed in with the shower water. After just about half an hour of standing here crying I finally grabbed the soap and washed myself up.

I got out and wrapped a towel around myself. I looked at my body in the mirror and scowled. I had a bunch of stretch marks on my body and a flabby stomach to accompany them. It should take about six weeks before my uterus returns to my normal size so until then I would still have to deal with the round stomach. I got dressed into a pair of pajama pants and one of Frank's hoodies before stepping back out.

"Linda called while you were in the shower, I told her you would call back," Etta said. "And the babies are just fine, one of them started fussing a bit and needed a diaper changed so I did that for you."

"Thank you," I said.

I gave her a hug before she left the room. I grabbed my phone and called Linda.

"Oh, Gee, thank god you're alright," she said.

"I'm at my parents' house," I said. "I think I'm gonna stay here for the night."

"Okay, that's good, you should get away," she said. "Frank Sr. is going to post bail for him tomorrow morning."

"Is he pressing charges?" I asked.

"I don't know," she mumbled. "But if he does then Frank could be looking at up to ten years in jail."

I whimpered, pulling my knees up to my chest as I sat on my bed.

"He can't go to jail," I whispered. "H-He has daughters, I can't raise them alone."

"I'm sorry about all of this, Gee," she said.

"It's not your fault," I mumbled.

"I-I let him into this house," she whispered. "I-I thought he changed, I d-didn't know he would do that to you."

I sniffled, looking down.

"I-I just want Frank back, I want him to be okay and not in prison," I mumbled.

"We're gonna do everything we can to keep him out," Linda said. "I-I'm gonna find a good lawyer to try and help him. My baby's only seventeen, he'll be tried as an adult and he can't go to prison, he's just my little baby."

"I-Is his dad gone?" I whimpered.

"No," she said quietly. "I want to keep him happy so he won't press charges but as soon as that's done I promise he's gone. You're like my daughter and he shouldn't have done that to you and he shouldn't be around the twins either. I just don't wanna get him mad right now or else he will press charges."

"What are we gonna do?" I whimpered. "'My parents won't let me stay here."

"Tomorrow I'm gonna pick you up before we go pick Frank up and I'm taking you to his grandpa's house and you two will stay there," she said. "I'm gonna make this right, Gee, I promise, I'm so sorry."
