Chapter 17

It was the first day on summer break and I relished being able to sleep in without any school work to worry about. I yawned and stretched, walking downstairs. I found Frank on the couch playing Xbox with his best friend, Ryan.

"Hey, babe, you wanna play Halo with us?" He asked.

"No, I'm okay," I said.

"Arlight, there's food on the stove," he said, concentrating as he killed a couple of zombies.

I went to the kitchen and smiled when I found some scrambled eggs in a pan beside a plate of french toast. I grabbed a plate and sat down in the living room next to Frank as I ate.

"Fucking no!" Ryan shouted. "How did he do that?! He jumped way too high! Fucking cheat!"

"Your yelling upsets the babies," I said as I felt Cherry stir unhappily.

"Sorry," Ryan said.

I sighed, resting a hand on my stomach. I watched them play until Linda and Frank Sr. walked in.

"Frank, Gee, we need to talk to you," Linda said.

Frank scowled, looking around them at the tv.

"Can you pause the game?" She asked.

"It's online, mom, you can't pause," Frank said.

Frank Sr. turned off the Xbox and my boyfriend groaned. The tone in the room was tense and Ryan shifted uncomfortably.

"I should go," he said.

Ryan left and Frank's parents sat on the couch adjacent to us.

"So, we were talking and, well, we want to get married," Linda said.

I felt my stomach twist as Frank looked over at them.

"Seriously?" Frank asked. "Isn't that a little fast?"

"No, Frank, we're in love," Linda said. "It's like he never left."

"But he did leave, he left you, mom," Frank said.

"I thought you two were getting along," she said.

"Yeah but it all just seems a little bit fast," Frank said.

"Well, Frank, we know it is a little bit fast but I promise we're doing the right thing, I know it," Linda said.

"But of course we wouldn't stay down here in New Jersey," Frank Sr. said. "We would move up to Wisconsin to live in my house."

"I'm not moving," Frank denied.

"Frank, it's a really nice house," Linda said. "It's very big, like Gee's old house. There's a pool and a tennis court and you would have an ensuite bathroom and the twins would even be able to have their own rooms."

"I don't care how big it is, I'm not moving to fucking Wisconsin," Frank denied.

"We would want to move soon," Frank Sr. said.

"We aren't gonna fucking move," Frank stated. "Mom, we can't move. This is our home. You worked so hard to be able to afford it for us. You're work is here, you can't just quit. And we would move away from grandpa! Mom, you can't make us move!"

Linda opened her mouth to say something but Frank Sr. interrupted her.

"You don't really have a choice, Frank," he said.

I cried quietly and Frank held my hand.

"Mom, please," Frank whispered. "W-we can't move."

Linda looked at Frank sadly, coming over to wrap her arms around her son.

"Frankie, honey, you don't have to be upset," she said. "I promise it's gonna be okay. M-maybe we can just talk this over."

"There's nothing to talk over," Frank Sr. stated.

He left the room and Linda was quiet for a moment before following him upstairs.

"I can't fucking believe this," Frank muttered. "He can't just make us move!"

"This is our home," I said. "This is where our friends are and my brother is and this is where I always imagined raising our daughters."

I sniffled, wiping my eyes. He gave me a kiss and laid his hand on my stomach.

"I love you," he said. "That's really all that matters."

I smiled, feeling Lily stir softly.

"Wait, you're pregnant, you can't go," he said.

Frank ran up the stairs.

"Mom! We can't go!" Frank shouted. "Gee is pregnant! We're not allowed to move while she's pregnant!"

I sighed as I stood up, slowly making my way upstairs. I went to Frank's room with him and we cuddled up on his bed when his mom walked back in.

"Well, you're right," she said. "We can't move while Gee is pregnant. We'll just have to wait until after."

"Mom, you love it here, you would never move," Frank said. "Why would you do that now? You don't have to listen to everything he says."

"Frank, sweetheart, he's right," she said, caressing his cheek gently. "We wouldn't have to work, we wouldn't have be scrambling for cash to pay the bills, you two would get a bigger bedroom and the twins could have separate bedrooms and a large yard to play in."

Frank hit her hand away. "This is our home, mom, this is where I want to raise my daughters."

"Frank, we should move, I think it's for the best," she said.

"If you want to move then you move, we can just stay here," Frank said.

"Sweetheart, I can't leave you here," she said.

"We're seventeen," Frank said. "And Gee is emancipated and we want to raise our kids here in New Jersey."

"Frank, I cannot leave you in another state," Linda said. "As soon as the babies are born and Dr. Colby says it's okay then we are going to move to Wisconsin. I'll send you pictures of the house."

She left the room and Frank cried quietly.

"Baby, it's okay," I whispered, wiping away his tears. "As long as we have our family then it's gonna be okay."

"This is my home," he mumbled. "I-I can't just move. This is where my life is, this is where all of my friends are and where my school is."

"Maybe a new school wouldn't be so bad," I said. "Then I wouldn't be the pregnant whore anymore, no one would even know about our daughters, it would be so much easier."

"You aren't a pregnant whore," Frank muttered. "But this is my home, this is where I was born and raised, I love it here."

I gave him a soft kiss and smiled.

"Maybe this could be best for the kids," I said. "They would have food and clothes and toys. The only thing that's really important is the girls and sometimes we have to put them first to do what's best for them no matter how much we may hate it."

Frank sighed and nodded, holding my hand.

"Maybe," he mumbled. "It's just upsetting, this is my home and I really ever thought about leaving it and I really don't ever want to leave it."

I kissed his cheek, giving his hand a soft squeeze. He laid his other hand on my stomach and smiled.

"I do want what's best for them," he mumbled.

"And if he supposedly lives in this huge mansion that means he lives in a rich community which means really good schools in the district," I said. "We could even afford to send them to private school if we wanted. And then in the future we could afford to send them to college, even a nice college if they got in."

"College," Frank muttered. "What about Rutgers?"

"There's other colleges you could go to in Wisconsin," I said.

Frank sighed and nodded. He gave me a soft kiss and I smiled.

"I love you," he mumbled.

Frank wrapped his arms around me and I closed my eyes as I laid down.

"Mm, I wouldn't mind having a bed that's bigger than a twin," I said.

"We can get a great big king sized bed," he said. "But the twin size won't be so bad when you don't have a big belly."

"God, I love these babies but I can't wait until they're just out of me already," I said, opening my eyes.

Frank chuckled and gave me a kiss.

"Is it almost lunch?" I asked. "I'm hungry already."

"We can go downstairs and I'll make you some food," he said. "What do you want?"

"Some grapes sound really good right about now," I said. "Grapes and hot dogs."

"You're pregnant, you're not allowed to eat hot dogs," he stated.

"I know but they sound so good," I mumbled.

My hand reached up to hold toy with my little promise ring around my neck.

"Frankie, I can't wait until we get married," I said. "I'm gonna have a beautiful dress and the twins are gonna be so adorable as our little flower girls."

"I don't know whether or not our wedding or the babies' birth is gonna be the best day of my life," he said. "But I know it's gonna be one of those two because I love you so much and I love these babies so much."

"How long do you think we'll stay here before we move?" I asked.

"I don't know, I guess we would have to ask with the doctor," he said. "Hopefully not too long."

I nodded, laying a hand on my stomach.

"I just want the best for these babies even if it's in Wisconsin away from my home and friends," I said. "And I want to go to a new school, I don't want to have to go to this school where I just get ridiculed all day long. I want to go somewhere new where I could start new."

"I want you to be happy," Frank said. "And I'm sure it won't be too bad. I mean, I'm actually on somewhat good terms with my dad and he does have a huge house and a lot of money so we won't be scraping like we always are."

"Speaking of, don't you need to go to work?" I asked.

Frank looked at his watch. "I've still got about ten minutes, enough time for me to get you something to eat."

I nodded and watched him leave. He came back up with a bagel smeared with cream cheese.

"This okay?" He asked.

"Perfect," I said.

"You want some water? I can go get you some water," he offered.

"No, that's okay, I'm fine," I said. "I'll probably just get some tea later."

"Okay, I have to go now," he said. "I love you so much."

"I love you too," I said.

Frank gave me a soft kiss and I smiled as he left, gently rubbing my stomach.
