KARMA IS REVENGE
This was it. It was time to face the people whom I descended from, time to prove to the people around me that the real Elisabeth Rose Killiard had been murdered by them.
No, I wasn't the real Elisabeth. I was her clone. I was the one that wasn't supposed to exist, the one that used fake ID's on a daily basis, the one that worked for a secret organization that cleaned up the mess murderers left, as long as they paid high enough.
The first time I had ever killed, I had been seven. I had always been taught that killing was good, so, when my first Outing came, the first ever assignment I had received outside of our training grounds, I had been overjoyed, up until the point I stepped into a gas station. It seemed, as a seven-year-old girl, I wasn't allowed to drive a car. So out of anger, I had shot the man behind the counter, and my coworkers had ended up killing the rest of customers since we had to get rid of any trace we existed. Although the mission had gone badly, our target had been in that gas station by chance, so we hadn't gotten into much trouble.
Ten years later, and I could proudly state that I definitely had no remorse, although, if what I had been told about Elisabeth's parents was true, they were monsters too. I was skeptical though, so I had decided to use my appearance to my convenience, going to their house and giving them a surprise visit, and if the stories where true, I would get revenge for the death of my progenitor, and if they weren't, who knew. Maybe they annoyed me.
Placing my hand on the bell, I took a deep breath, anticipation bursting through me as the chime resounded through the small house.
I wasn't nervous about meeting the people I could probably call parents, but more anxious to get it over and done with, so that I could get home and explain the encounter to my coworkers, all of them also illegal clones.
Sofia Killiard opened the door. She had the same hair as me, dark black waves cascading down our backs, granted, hers was currently tied up in a high ponytail, while mine was placed in two loose plaits and shorter, but if they were in the same state, they would be identical.
I could probably use her identity if I really wanted to, another pro to killing them.
"Who are you?" Sofia asked, staring at me intently, probably seeing the resemblance between the both of us, fear evident in her eyes.
Time to put those acting classes to use.
Taking some air, I made myself tremble, trying to make it seem as if I was shaking my nervousness away, placing a loose strand of hair behind my ear, "My name is Elisabeth, and I'm pretty sure I'm your missing daughter," I lied, smoothly.
I had a thick Spanish accent, but unlike my coworkers that could change it on command, I knew a few more languages than them since I had spent the extra time researching and learning other idioms.
A mix of emotions flashed through her eyes, uneasiness sketched on her face as she stepped aside, trying to hide it with a warm smile, "Come in, come in!", while under her breath, "How is this possible?".
So they were right. They really had killed Elisabeth.
The image of her corpse appeared in my mind, a volcano of happiness erupting inside me.
Closing the door behind me, she pulled her black hair into a ponytail, "How... Where have you been?".
Was she trying to hide the fact that it was impossible for me to be here?
Sending her a shy smile, I pulled at my sleeves, the green shirt stretching as I entered the cold home, "I've been in the system for as long as I can remember. Then I had a DNA test, and it came out that you were my parents,".
The house was big. Two stories, maybe three, with spacious, empty rooms dividing it. I could see cobwebs around the high ceiling, but looked ahead, trying to forget I had seen any of the small arachne's I despised so much. From the bare lounge, I could see the pool in the backyard, where a man was swimming. My best guess was that he was Gabriel Rome Killiard, although I hadn't seen his face just yet.
"Oh, darling. I'm so sorry! You went missing when you were so young, we didn't think you had made it!" She exclaimed, tears rolling down her cheek as she pulled me into a hug, the smell of her strong perfume intoxicating me and making me feel nauseous. "Let me go and tell Gabriel. Make yourself at home!"
She headed outside, the tall glass doors opening and closing on their own.
Sneaking upstairs, I went to the room nearest to them with a window. The chamber was a bedroom, one I couldn't decide if it was their own, or a spare one, even though I couldn't imagine any person in their right mind staying here willingly.
Maybe that's their form of torture, I thought, forcing people to live in this place until they go insane and kill themselves. I knew I would if I had to stay here.
Ever since the death of Elisabeth, they had managed to get lots of press, including the launch of Sofia's company. Due to this, the corporation started thriving, and with the help of Gabriel's friends in the black market, they had managed to turn their small business into a multimillionaire one.
They might be rich, but they have no idea how to use that money to clean and decorate a house, I concluded annoyed, the reality of their home not reaching half my expectations.
Opening the window, my face turning sour as my fingers got covered in dust and grease.
"-can't be our daughter!" Gabriel exclaimed, "We killed her!".
I could just about hear Sofia as she told him to lower his voice, "We stabbed her a few times, and buried her alive. Maybe she survived?".
They had stabbed a three-year-old and then inearthed her. I guess I knew why I acted how I did, then.
Some unheard words where spoken, before my ears finally caught up, the next few sentences infuriating me.
"We should kill her. And this time, I want to be there when you bury her," Sofia said icily, "Just to make sure you do it properly."
Someone downstairs let out a sigh, probably Gabriel, "Do you want to bury her back where we supposedly buried her fifteen years ago, or with the others?".
Smiling, his words dawned on me. They were killers too. They had murdered more people than just their daughter. I really did belong in this family, after all.
"Elisabeth was buried eight hours away. Let's just burn the body at the bonfire later on. Wasn't Max asking for some good wood?" Sofia suggested, making bile rise up my throat as I remembered the time I had thought it would be fun to burn someone alive. The smell it left was awful, and it didn't go for a good week, "She seems to be big enough to burn for two hours for sure. Maybe even three if we stuff her up beforehand!"
Gabriel seemed to think about it for a few seconds.
"Fine. Kill her first though. Their screams always hurt my ears, and if we bring her alive with us, Max will insist on burning her alive. You know how he is, saying their high-pitched cries for help is music. Also, cut her hair! I hate the smell of it when it burns," He groaned, and judging by the splashing, probably pulled himself out of the large pool.
My so-called mother squealed, "I'll go and let her know! She's probably wondering what is taking so long." Fear started coursing through my body. I had to get downstairs, now, or they might figure me out!
Rushing down the marble stairs, I sat next to the counter, quickly grabbing the first family photo I saw and staring at it intently. Not two seconds later, Sofia walked in, followed by a very soggy Gabriel.
A huge, fake grin spread across his face as he took me in, "You've grown into such a beautiful lady! Oh, how I wish we had been there as you grew up." Tears fell down his face as neared me, giving me a big hug, squishing me between his muscular arms, still wet.
I didn't complain though, because while they were busy trying to make it seem like they loved me, I was planning how to give Elisabeth the revenge she deserved, as well as to fulfill my craving of killing someone, anyone at this point.
I was addicted to death, and as long as I continued cleaning up for the company, I could do anything without being turned in. I was a free spirit, all us clones were, and having no rules meant breaking the ones everyone else had to follow.
Making my eyes water, I smiled at both of them, imagining I hadn't overheard their conversation mere minutes ago and fooling myself into believing that I was really Elisabeth and that I had really disappeared instead of being killed.
"I've dreamt of this day for so long!" I cried, pulling Sofia into a hug, who giggled as we all squeezed each other.
After a few moments, we pulled back, all of us smiling at each other as if none of us was trying to kill each other.
I mean, I might not be the real Elisabeth, but being her clone means I have the same genes as her, so I can say for certain that I gained my acting skills from my progenitors.
"Let's go and have some lunch. I've got some cheesecake I made this morning we can have for pudding! And I'm sure I can whip up something easy in a few minutes," Sofia said, pulling me towards the dirty kitchen and inquiring what I wanted to eat, Gabriel following us closely.
After having the worst spaghetti I had ever had, I helped tidy up a bit, my OCD forcing me to do so.
"Now for the cheesecake!" Gabriel exclaimed excitedly, coming into the room with a large cake and an even larger knife.
Sofia and I cheered, both of us excited to eat the sweet delicacy she had baked this morning.
Placing the plate in front of me, "Here you go," Gabriel sat in front of me, beaming at me.
"Thank you!"
I wasn't going to touch it until I had made sure they hadn't poisoned it, so waiting for both of them to sit down, I drank water. Once they were both in their seats and had eaten a bit of the cake, I placed a piece of the cake on my fork, before accidentally dropping it, the clattering noise of the metal bouncing off of the marvel floor resounding through the room.
"Ups... I'll go and get another one," I said sheepishly, walking toward the counter where the forks were stored, trying not to physically cringe at the amount of dirt that encrusted it.
Opening the drawer, I realized I had found the perfect objects to execute my plan.
Two long, sharp knives glistered under the orange light filtering through the window in front of me.
I was going to have to act quickly and make sure I hit both of them.
Letting go of the fork, I grabbed one knife in each hand and twirling around, I jumped on Gabriel, who was closer to the door that Sofia, stabbing him in the heart. Without giving the woman any time to react, I jabbed the other knife into her chest, missing her heart by a few inches to make her suffer a bit more. The force made her fall to the ground, blood trickling out of the wound, staining the white silk shirt she was wearing, turning into a pool of red abysm.
"Why?" She murmured, not understanding what had just happened.
Laughing, I sat back down, "Well, I'd like to call it karma. But in reality, it's just plain out revenge and hatred," smiling, I stared at her face as it morphed from confusion, to disdain, before scrunching up and coughing up blood.
Waiting for the small cries of help to stop, I stared her down, my hands around the cheesecake and eating it all up.
When I finally got up and left the scruffy house, I knew they were both dead.
My need to kill was gone, at least for a while.
