the speech

I have faith in what I see.

Now I know I have met an angel in person,

And she looks perfect.

I don't deserve this,

You look perfect tonight.

Mitch's arms were crossed in front of his chest, as well as his hip was cocked out to one side. It took a lot in my power not to laugh at him, but as hard as I tried, a laugh or two still escaped past my lips.

"Please stop. I'm tired of yelling at you tonight."

"I'm trying to be cute." He rolled his eyes, but didn't budge. "Please, baby?" I insisted.

"No," he answered, using the most serious voice he could muster. I had no doubt he was though.

"Its chivalrous."

"Fuck chivalry. The people who created it are probably rolling over in their graves even thinking about this." That caused me to laugh once again and only caused him to purse his lips.

"Come on, you love it when I carry you around."

"Think again, buddy." Just like that, we dug ourselves into a stalemate, both of us too stubborn to give in to the other. Surprisingly, Mitch was the first one to give up. He once again rolled his eyes then started walking towards me. However, I quickly realized that he had no intentions to let me have my way either. He attempted to walk right past me but I quickly reached out to stop him. He spun around to face me, which gave the perfect opportunity to pick him up and throw him over my shoulder. His reaction was immediate.

"Scott! Put me down!" I simply smirked as I finally went towards the front door of our house. I internally thanked myself for unlocking it before I confronted Mitch as I could only imagine the struggle I'd have to go through. For some reason, once I closed the door behind us, he thought it was an appropriate time to slap my back and once again try to make me stop.

"You asshole!"

"You might wanna calm down there. You're gonna hit your head on a door frame or something." I heard him mutter a swear word or two, but he then finally relaxed and let me continue throughout the house. Once we reached the bedroom, I dropped him on the bed as gently as I could given the circumstance. I immediately met his eyes and felt relieved to see a much softer expression on his face than the last time I had seen it.

A moment of silence had passed before either one of us moved again. But it was Mitch who did by raising up one of his hands, then crooking his finger in a 'come hither' motion. And of course, I had to oblige.

I climbed onto the bed and quickly settled on the bed between his legs. He didn't waste any time placing his hand on the back of my neck and pulling me down until our lips connected. A moment later, I felt our legs brushing against each other. I didn't think anything of it at the time, that was until I felt him use his legs to pull us closer together. I couldn't help but smile into the kiss then. His hands eventually went for my shoulders and they slowly drifted down my torso over the suit jacket as we continued on. As they went over the pockets, a small crinkling noise was made, causing us to break apart. We were both fairly confused, but Mitch was the first one to speak up.

"Scott Richard."

"What?"

"I swear to god if this is what I think it is..." He trailed off, reaching towards my suit jacket once again. He quickly undid the buttons holding the front of it together, then went for the pocket on the inside of it. "Paper?" He asked as he finally retrieved the item. It took me a moment to realize what just exactly what it was, but upon doing so, I grabbed papers from him and sighed.

"It was the speech."

"Oh."

"I was gonna read it, but we missed it."

"And whose fault was that?" I looked up at him and chuckled when I saw the look he was giving me.

"Read it to me."

"You sure?"

"Yeah, please." I nodded my head before unfolding the pieces of paper. I was about to dive headfirst into the speech before I read the first line and began second guessing myself. My hesitation must have been obvious, because when I looked back up to him, he nodded his head briefly. And I guess that was all the motivation I needed.

"Anyone and everyone who has met Mitch and I knows that we're soulmates. People would scoff at how carelessly we've tossed around that word, but its true. When you look up the definition of soulmates, it reads: a person ideally suited to another as a close friend or romantic partner.

"While the context of it has changed over time, we have been and still are soulmates. We've been friends for seemingly ever and obviously have been dating for awhile now. Finally getting to marry him tonight has been the perfect way to continue it.

"However, I've always thought that he's almost... overly ideal, but in the best way possible.

"He is an angel. He's the kindest person that I have ever met. He's completely selfless. He'd never wants the conversation to be about him; he'd rather talk about anything else. He cares for everyone he's ever met. He inspires people on a daily basis. He's passionate and never gives up on his goals. I could go on and on; but know that at the end of the day, he is perfect, in every definition of the word.

"He is all of these incredible things which routinely leads me to one conclusion... I don't deserve him.

"I admitted to him once that very fact. Within the next few minutes after that, he shot it down and then proceeded to compliment me, much like I just did to him. While the conversation seemed to be over fairly quickly after that, it made me realize something. He thinks I'm an angel. He thinks I'm kind and selfless. That I'm passionate and have the biggest heart. He thinks of me the exact same way that I think of him.

"And maybe that's what makes us soulmates. What makes us absolutely perfect for each other."
