Making Peace
A/N I know I never really said it before but I kind of mean for this story to take place after TOA, obviously since Rick hasn't completed TOA yet we don't know how it ends so I will probably make things up and tweak things here and there. Basically the oracle is working again and Rachel is at camp half blood although I hadn't mentioned her yet, also I may include TOA characters from time to time so I hope you've all read both of the books that are available. If you haven't I'll try not to put in too many spoilers and give a warning if and when I do. Anyway I think that's all I wanted to say so I'll shut up.
Percy's Point of View
The only campers who didn't seem all that unnerved by my fight with Lycaon were the ones that I had helped get to camp before I found out about the war. They had already seen me in action and knew that despite the violence I wouldn't hurt them only anyone who deserved it. I had never killed any of the demigod's abusers since they were mortals, although you could probably argue that the majority of them deserved to die for what they did.
I'd just done what I could think of to give them a taste of their own medicine. I didn't torture them, not really, but obviously, I had to fight when they tried to stop me from saving the demigod that they were mistreating, and more often than not abusing.
I spoke to the campers and it wasn't long before I reassured them that despite what I now was I wouldn't turn against them and I was sure that neither would the rest of the werewolves. I knew that not all the werewolves were there, but despite that, I was now certain that all of them would follow me and help in this war.
I might have made peace with the campers and Chiron but that didn't mean that the gods would be so easy to convince, especially since Zeus and some of the others had been reluctant to trust me to begin with. Now I knew it would be even harder to convince them to trust the entire pack of werewolves, even if Lycaon is dead and I'm the new king.
The gods would probably just assume that all the other werewolves were just as evil as Lycaon and not even consider that he might have been controlling them by fear. Some of the gods aren't exactly the brightest so they probably wouldn't consider the fact that the other werewolves probably wouldn't follow me willingly if they were just as evil as Lycaon. Regardless I knew I would have to try and convince them since the werewolves would need a place to stay for the time being while I'm at camp.
I figured my best option was to go to Olympus and get the gods to call a meeting, there I would explain that Lycaon was dead and that I had taken his place as king. Hopefully, after I explained how Lycaon had ruled the other werewolves by fear and that they hadn't agreed with Lycaon's ways the gods would see that not all the werewolves were evil.
I figured it would be best to take Jonas with me since he knew more about what Life under Lycaon had been like than me. Hopefully, once we got to Olympus we would find one of the gods who was willing to call a meeting. I knew that Hestia was quite often there so perhaps she would do it. Either way, I knew that I would have to get the gods' trust one way or another.
Jonas and I were about to leave to go to Olympus when Annabeth appeared at the top of the hill and yelled, "Percy wait!"
I asked, "Why? what's happened?"
She replied, "We're having a meeting there's been a new prophecy,"
I sighed and told Jonas that I'd tell him about the meeting once I got back. I headed back into camp with Annabeth and headed to the meeting. Once we got there I saw all the other head counselors and Rachel already there. The meeting started and Annabeth who'd been talking to Rachel when she recited the prophecy, repeated what she heard. It sounded like it was another great prophecy referring to this new war. It was,
Former enemies stand as one,
A battle shall rage under the dying sun,
Night and dark shall be slain,
A maiden's heart one shall gain.
The only line that sounded somewhat pleasant was the last one since we assumed it referred to people falling in love. If that wasn't what it meant it had to refer to something seriously messed up.
Either way, the other lines didn't sound all that pleasant. We thought the first line might refer to the gods, demigods, and werewolves, we weren't sure about the other lines. The darkness part might refer to Erebus, but we weren't sure about the rest of that line, was Nyx helping him or something? We also knew that the prophecy could mean something else entirely since we couldn't really know what it meant until the events it was referring to had taken place.
The meeting didn't really change anything since we didn't know for sure what the prophecy meant. The other campers went back to training and preparing for the war while I headed back to where Jonas was waiting and told him the prophecy and what we thought about it. He listened and agreed with the conclusions we'd come to. As we traveled toward Manhattan we talked.
I asked him, "Did you ever consider trying to challenge Lycaon yourself?"
He replied, "When I was younger I did consider it, but I could never quite find the courage to actually try and face him, Once I met my mate, Holly, I knew I had to abandon the idea since he would most likely either kill me, or both of us, either that or he would hurt her to hurt me,"
I nodded, wanting to protect those you cared about was something I understood rather well considering my fatal flaw. "Where is she now?" I asked since he hadn't mentioned his mate before and as far as I knew I hadn't met her yet. I didn't remember meeting a female werewolf with that name.
He replied, "She didn't come with us when we came after you. Considering her current condition, it would be hard for her to travel much less fight,"
He waited for me to get his meaning, I will admit I was a little slow, but I did catch on and congratulated him. I asked, "would you rather be with her?" I had been considering making him my second in command but after this news, I would let him go be with her if he wanted to.
He replied, "As much as I would like to be with her I think you will need as many fighters as possible for this war, at least I'll know that she and our pups will be safe since some of our pack stayed with her and the other pregnant women while the rest of us came for you. After we return from Olympus we should go and let them know that you are now our king, and a few others may return to help in the war since many of our pack members stayed behind,"
I nodded, That made sense, the other werewolves needed to know that Lycaon had been defeated and I was now the king. I could see that we were getting closer to the empire state building, but I decided to ask one last question since I felt we had time and him mentioning his mate made me think of it. I asked, "Did Lycaon ever have a mate?"
I was kind of confused when a disgusted look appeared on Jonas's face but I soon understood when he answered my question. He replied, "No As far as I know he never did but I haven't been alive as long as some of the other members of our pack, regardless he has had heirs but he went against our very nature and forced women he found attractive to bear his children and raise them to take his place if the need arose. Lucky for you over the years his heirs were killed, either from run-ins with the hunters or if they refused to follow in his footsteps and continue his tyranny if it ever came to that,"
I could now understand Jonas's disgust The way Lycaon had treated those women was horrible, not to mention killing his own children when they defied him. It didn't exactly surprise me though since killing his kids was what got Lycaon cursed in the first place. One of the things Jonas had said made one last question come to my mind. We were getting rather close to the empire state building now, but I still felt we had time for my final question. I asked, "What do you mean he went against our nature?" I had read some things about normal wolves but I wasn't sure if werewolves were the same way.
Jonas replied, "much like some mortals do, We normally find one mate and stay with that person for as long as we live. Our king, however, could have more than one mate. None of the women Lycaon forced to bear his children were meant to be his mate he just took advantage of them,"
Obviously what Lycaon did was horrible but this time what stood out to me was what Jonas said about the werewolf king possibly having more than one mate, did that mean that I would eventually be with more than one person? If so how many would I end up having? I shoved those thoughts aside for the moment partially because we were now at the empire state building, and also because I didn't really want to think about it since I wasn't even completely over Annabeth yet, I wasn't ready to consider being with someone else yet, much less more than one person.
Instead, I said, Well I guess it's time to convince the gods that we're all trustworthy,"
Jonas Nodded before we went into the building. Once again I had to threaten the guy at the desk before he gave us the key card but what else is new? We went up to Olympus noping to come across one of the Olympians, and that it would be one who would be willing to help us. We walked around Olympus for a bit, not finding anyone to help us, The citizens of Olympus seemed more or less fine with me, but they seemed a bit less comfortable with Jonas.
None tried to attack either of us but I got the feeling they would have if we'd attacked first. Eventually, when we didn't spot anyone to help us we headed toward the throne room hoping one of the gods or goddesses would be there. It seemed like Tyche was on our side for the moment since Hestia was there Sitting at her hearth despite the fact that she now had a throne on the council.
Knowing she would probably be willing to help us we walked over to her and bowed before explaining why we were there. She agreed to call a meeting and did just that by sending a burst of flames toward the ceiling of the room. Moments afterward the other Olympians began arriving and several of them clearly weren't thrilled to see me, but they were obviously annoyed when they saw that I had brought another werewolf with me.
Clearly irritated Zeus asked Hestia why she had called the meeting, and what Jonas and I were doing there, I was pretty sure Zeus was struggling to keep his voice level and not yell at her. She replied, "Perseus has something he wishes to tell us as well as a request for us,"
Zeus Yelled, " If that is the case then why did he bring one of Lycaon's mutts with him!"
I stepped forward in order to defend us and explain everything. Still trying to be somewhat polite I said, "Lord Zeus I brought Jonas here because Lycaon is dead, and as The new king of the werewolves I hope to bring peace between you and my pack,"
Artemis Spoke up, "If Lycaon is dead that means you must have killed him, That is something even I have failed at doing before, How did you manage it?"
I replied, "He came to the borders of Camp Half-Blood and Attempted to manipulate me into joining him, unfortunately for him he underestimated me and I managed to defeat him,"
After that, I asked, "Are you all aware of the prophecy that was spoken earlier today?"
Most of them weren't except for Apollo who said, "I am, but I was going to bring it up at the next meeting,"
I told the others what it was and explained how at camp we thought we might know what the first line meant but we weren't sure about the others.
I explained how w thought that the first line referred to them and the demigods getting along with the werewolves. It took a while but we did manage to convince most of the gods that we needed to work together so the ones that didn't want to were overruled by those who did. Finally, after we'd managed that I asked the question that we'd gone there to ask.
I said "Since we plan on helping in this war I hoped you would Allow my fellow werewolves to stay in Camp Half-Blood, they will be able to help the campers in more ways than just by fighting, some of them were once demigods or legacies themselves so they still have abilities from their parent or ancestor. The gods were reluctant at first since none of them liked the werewolves, and they probably didn't trust them around their kids but they eventually accepted that it was probably best that they give in and allow the werewolves to stay at camp.
Once the meeting ended I talked to my dad, he knew my little sister was at camp since he had claimed her but he didn't really know the circumstances of how she got there. This lead to me having to tell him that Jenny's mother was dead. It was clear that news saddened him, so he obviously had cared for them both a lot, he just couldn't do much due to Zeus's damned ancient laws.
After I finished talking to my dad we left to head back to camp, once we got there we told everyone what had happened at the meeting and that the werewolves were now allowed to stay within camps borders. After we did that our war preparations continued, I didn't really know what was going to happen in this war and while you would probably think I would be worrying about that I wasn't, the thought that was continuously nagging me was, would I eventually end up in a relationship with more than one person?
