Chapter 5: tournament

"No."

Ozai looked shocked. Not just because Percy was so blunt, but because he denied an offer from the Fire Lord himself.

"No?"

"Forgive me, but I do not believe I am strong enough to be Princess Azula's body guard." Percy said. "I have only been training for two years, and I am not a swordsman yet."

"I see." Ozai said as he stood up. "Piandao, come. Children, go enjoy yourselves."

Later

The group of teens were walking to the gardens, while Ty Lee bugged Percy.

"Can you talk to spirits?"

"Yes. Not now, but yes."

"Why not?"

"Spirit war."

"A what?"

"The spirits are fighting against something."

"Against what?"

"Titans, demons, giants. Take your pick."

"Why aren't you fighting?"

"The war is in the spirit world. I cannot go there, no human can."

"Why not?"

"Because only the avatar can!"

Yeah, Percy was having fun.

"Ty Lee, stop bothering the savage." Azula said.

"Okay, first, I was born in the fire nation, second, I have never in my life seen any water bender, third, I'm pretty sure that I can beat all of you in a fight." Percy said as the reached the garden.

"Wanna bet?" Azula said.

"Azula, I have never beaten him in a fight, and he never used his bending, when I did." Zuko said as he stopped.

"Your weaker than me Zuko." Azula said as the group stopped in a dualing circle.

"I'll go first!" Ty Lee said as she flipped at Percy, only to be frozen in mid air, and tapped on the head with a sheathed sword. "Guess I lost." She giggled as the water seemed to vanish.

"Mai?" Azula asked. "Have fun."

Mai nodded and instantly threw knives at Percy, and for him to catch them. They were like that for a minute, until water came up from behind Mai and frove her too. Then she was tapped on the head too. "Dead."

"Zuko?"

"I know the outcome."

"My turn then." Azula said as she threw fire at Percy. Percy dodges to the side and threw a wave of water over the burning plants. The two did this song and dance for minutes, and soon both were standing there, panting and covered in sweat. "I guess we're even in power." Azula said as she charged at Percy with two flaming daggers. Only for her daggers to pass through Percy. "What?" Percy's body turned into water and rushed over Azula, freezing her in place.

"Dead." A voice behind her said. The water vanished and rushed back into a pouch at Percy's waist. "That was a spirit blessing, body double. I can create doubles of myself and use them to distarct my opponents."

"Interesting." Azula said as she dusted herself off. "If you can best me in a fight, why did you turn down my father's offer?" She asked.

"Like I said, I have much to learn." Percy said as he sat down. "I don't have much experience fighting against several opponents, and I am not that strong. I use underhanded tactics to catch my opponents off guard to win, like I did in my fight against Mai and you."

"I see." Azula said.

"Percy, time for us to depart. Prince Zuko, I will see you at your next lesson." Piandao said as him and Ozai walked over.

"Goodbye Prince Zuko, Princess Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee." Percy said as he bowed.

"Goodbye Percy." Everyone but Azula said.

Four years later

Percy was shocked. An assassination attempt almost succeeded and now the Fire Lord was holding a tournament to find a body gaurd for Azula. He rushed home to show master Piandao, just to find him talking with the Fire Lord.

"Percy might have found your announcement by now, and any second he might come barging in her asking to join." Piandao said as Percy did just that.

"MASTER! MASTER!" Percy called as he threw open the door. "The Fire Lord is holding a tournament to find Princess Azula's body guard! Can I! Can I!" He begged. Then he saw the Fire Lord. "Oh."

Both Paindao and Ozai chuckled, because of Piandao's comment a literal second before Percy came in.

"Yes you can Percy, me and Fire Lord Ozai were just discussing that when you came in." Piandao said as they stood up.

"My, my, my." Ozai said as he walked up to Percy. "You have grown." Indeed Percy had. Two years ago he was still scrawny and short, but now he was as 6' 5" and a swimmers body of pure muscle.

"My Lord." Percy said as he bowed.

"I came here to personally ask you to be Azula's body guard, if you win the tournament." Ozai said as he placed his hand on Percy's shoulder.

"Of course my Lord. I am much stronger than I was two years ago." Percy said, still bowing.

"I can tell. Rise, and come to the tournament. It will be a glorious show."

"Yes my lord." Percy said as he rose.

Three weeks later

"Be calm Percy." Piandao said as he handed Percy his mortal hurting sword. "You have trained for this."

"I have never been in actual combat before! Much less a tournament!" Percy exclaimed. "And I'm a water bender! Only higher ups know about it!"

"Then use it." A voice from the door said. A man walked in. "The Fire Lord has given you permission to use your bending to fight in the tournament."

"Tell the Fire Lord that I am grateful for this opportunity." Percy said as he put his new sword he named; αιμοβορία or bloodlust, in the sheath on his back.

"Be wary of your opponents Percy, they are master fire banders, and will do anything to win. Both me and Fire Lord Ozai have talked about it, and after your bending is revealed, he will have men to prevent people for sabotaging you." Piandao said.

"Thank you master." Percy said as he took a deep breath. "I'm ready."

Percy walked out into the waiting room, and saw dozens of fire benders stretching and warming up. Or sharpening their blades. Percy walked over to the refreshment stand, and saw a man selling cabbages. Shaking his head, he walked away.

"Hey you!" A robed man said as he walked up. "Who sponsored you to be here?"

Percy thought for a second. "Sword master Piandao and General Iroh." He said as he walked away. That last part wasn't a lie, as word also reached Iroh, and he sponsored Percy. Ozai also did, but people would think he was lying.

"Don't walk away from me! Don't you know who I am?" the man asked.

"Nope. And I really don't care." Percy responded.

"I am Razok, Heir to house Raz!" Razok said.

"Like I said, I don't care." Razok's face fell as he watched as a, in his eyes, snotty child of a noble brushed him off. Like he was yesterday's trash.

"Why you! You don't deserve a chance near Princess Azula! She deserve someone of importance! Not someone like you!" Razok shouted, drawing the attention of nearby contenders.

"If your so important, why did I not know your name?" Percy asked, looking over his shoulder. "I memorized every important noble house in the Fire Nation. Not once, have I heard of House Raz."

"Settle down you two." A new voice said. Percy looked over to see the personification of arrogance. "You must have heard about me, Jasper, the Flame Dancer, Heir to the house of Jas." this arrogant idiot was blond, purple eyes, tall, and severally covered in make-up. "That's not nice Author-Kun." Jasper said, talking into the meaningless void that is his purpose in this scene - no in this story. "Ouch Author-Sama!" the obviously crazy man said, looking at a wall.

"Riiight. Haven't heard of you either, now stay away from me." Percy said as he backed away from the crazy man. "Let's scram!" and with that, Percy and Razok scampered away from the now twirling thing.

"Don't run away! I only wish to be friends!" The tornado of arrogance called out as it moved in the other direction by some unknown force.

Minutes later, the two watched as contender after contender was knocked out of the first round. Percy could see the Fire Lord and Princess Azula watching form a box over the stadium.

"Man, she's beautiful!" Razok exclaimed as he gestured to Azula.

"But deadly." Percy retorted. "I fought her once and barely won."

"Wow really? Man what was it like?" He asked.

"Painful." Percy said. "Why are we talking anyways? We're enemies!"

"I honestly don't know." The two sat in silence before Percy heard his name called.

"My turn. Hope I can kick that weird Fire Dancer guy. He creeps me out." Percy said as he walked into the Arena.

"People of the Fire Nation!" Ozai called out. The crowds silenced before he continued. "This young man before us, has been sponsored by three people!" The crowds chatted amongst themselves as he continued. "First, the Swordmaster, Piandao!" Said man rose from the crowd. "Second, my brother, General Iroh! And finally, The Fire Sages!" A few old men and a young one stand up from the crowd. Iroh wasn't there, because Zuko was banished last year.

The crowd was in outrage. Never had they heard of Percy, and to be sponsored by so many important people was unheard of.

"His opponent, known far and wide as a master at dueling, The Fire Dancer, Jasper!" Fire lord Ozai shouted, as said man walked out in full armor, and a scythe on his back. Percy looked at the Fire Lord, who shook his head no, meaning Percy had to use sword skills alone in this duel. Percy sighed as he pulled out Bloodlust.

"Begin!"
