chapter 4: dinner with a show
So I changed my mind, this story will be in 3rd person unless I say so, because reasons, but this part is in 1st person.
'Athena?' I asked as I laid in my bed.
'Yes Percy?' The goddess responded.
'I thank you for your help, but I want to live this life without divine intervention.' I said, the memory of my friends dying playing.
'What brought this on?' Athena asked. 'We have been friends for 2 years now, am I disturbing you?'
'My friends are dead and the gods did nothing, and no offense to you, but I don't trust any God or Goddess now.' I said, falling into a slumber. 'You can watch over me, but if I ask for you directly, don't help me.'
I heard Athena sigh. 'Alright Percy, I understand.' She said as I drifted off to sleep.
3rd person, one year later
If you ever took a hike in the mountains near the home of the sword master, Piandao, you would hear the sound of wood clashing, and more often than not, a solid thwack followed by a loud curse.
Said cussing person was non other then Percy Jackson, who was getting his butt handed to him again by Fat, Piandao's assistant. Now, Percy was just humoring Piandao at this point, wanting to go over how people used swords in this world. He was still the same badass as in the last world, but the events that ended his past life made him.... wiser in a sense. He no longer joked around like he used to. he still did, just not often. He felt empty, like something was missing, and he longed to find what it was.
"Again!" Piandao called out, as Percy charged Fat. Percy brought his wooden sword down, only to be blocked by Fat's sword. Before Percy had time to recover, Fat swung his sword, hitting Percy on the head. "Dead."
Percy grumbled as he rubbed his head. "Again Percy. You must beat Fat using a wooden sword before you can use a real one against him." Piandao said. "Again!"
Percy thought for a second as he saw the rain barrel by the wall. He smirked as a plan formulated in his head. Percy blocked Fat's sword and pulled the water to him. Fat's eyes widened as he watched the wave come at him. As the wave passed over Fat, he found himself trapped in ice. Percy walked up with a smug grin as tapped Fat on the head. "Dead."
He turned to his master, awaiting his approval, but froze at the look on Piandao's face. Percy felt like one wrong move, and he would be sushi. "Percy, what have I told you about your bending? General Iroh may have convinced the Fire Lord to spare you, but you are not allowed to bend without permission."
Percy released Fat from the ice, hoping to ease Piandao's frightening look. "You told me that a swordsman should use anything and everything at their disposal to their advantage."
Piandao's look lessened as he smiled. "I cannot go against my own teachings. Very well, let's get you a proper sword."
"A swordsman's sword should be and extension of themselves, like it is a part of them." Piandao said as they walked inside the mansion.
"Master, what if I have a sword that is already an extension of me?" Percy asked.
Piandao cocked his eyebrow as he looked at his student. "How?" He asked.
Percy reached into a sewed in pocket in his robes and pulled out a metal cylinder. Piandao looked at his student, questioning his sanity. He was about to say something, when Percy held up his finger. Percy flicked a piece off of the cylinder, and a 3' steel and bronze sword sprung out of nowhere, startling Piandao.
"This is a sword handed down to me by my ancestors, a blade capable of slaying monsters from myths." Percy said as he handed it to Piandao. the swordmaster studied it for a moment, before he handed it back.
"Very well, that should do. I suppose it is time to advance to the next level of your training." Piandao smirked, and Percy had a very bad feeling.
A year later
"Percy, come here, I need to talk to you." Piandao said from his room. Percy opened the door to see his master reading a letter. "We have a meeting with Fire Lord Ozai."
"The Fire Lord? Why?" Percy asked.
"Apparently, your training and abilities as of late have gained his attention, Prince Zuko talking highly of your skill, and including when you prevented a noble from being assassinated last week." Piandao said as he stood up. "Get your best clothes, and your sword, we leave in an hour."
Later, at the palace,
Prince Zuko was thrilled. His best friend and sparring partner, Percy, had been invited to the Palace to meet with the royal family. His sister however, not so much.
"What is so special about a water tribe savage?" She asked Mai and Ty Lee.
"He is an extraordinary swordsman, a spirit seer, and saved a noble when her guards couldn't." Zuko said as he faced his sister.
"And? Your point?" Mai asked as she filed her nails.
"He sounds like a good person!" Ty Lee said as she bent her body in ways Zuko thought impossible.
"He is." Zuko said as the doors opened to reveal a servant.
"The guests have arrived your majesty's." He said as the group of teens walked out.
This line was broken by a tidal wave
"Let me do the talking Percy, do not talk unless talked to." Piandao said.
Percy nodded in confirmation as the doors were opened.
"Welcome, Master Piandao, Percy." Zuko greeted as they walked in. All three bowed in respect before walking further in.
"Father wants us to meet in the dining room, be on your guard, father has never been like this." Zuko warned. Percy nodded as Piandao continued walking. As Percy walked, he stopped for a second, before continuing. "Are you alright Percy?" Zuko asked. Percy just nodded as the group entered the dining room.
Sitting down at the massive table, Piandao noticed Percy's eyes were closed, and his fingers were twitching. Piandao relaxed his hand and let it drift to his sword. Zuko, Ty Lee, Mai, and Azula were all oblivious to their actions. Fire Lord Ozai, who had just walked in, had noticed, and he too tensed, a small flame hidden in each palm under his sleeves.
"Piandao, Perseus, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Fire Palace." He said as he sat down. "Percy, care to show us a little of your bending? You have my permission." He said, as he held up his hand.
"Of course your majesty." Percy said as he stood up. He closed his eyes, and all of the liquids in the room floated out of their containers. The various liquids came together, forming the symbol of the fire nation, then of the Fire Lord, Percy and Zuko clashing swords, and finally he threw the liquids up, and they exploded like a firework. The liquids soon came back down, and into their various containers, but only Percy's cup remained empty.
"Marvelous show!" Fire Lord Ozai said as he clapped. "Now I think it's time to remove some pests." Percy nodded as he trust his hand to the ceiling, and four bodies fell from the ceiling, ice forming on their mouths, but Zuko and Piandao's cups empied and shot towards the ceiling, and eight more fell. Percy lowered his arm and the liquids from the other containers flowed out and surrounded the twelve would be assassins. The liquids froze, trapping them inside a shpere of ice.
"Guards, take them away." Ozai said as the guards recovered from their shock. "Now, Percy, how did you know that they were there?" He asked.
"I can sense liquids, and there is water in the air, so I felt the irregularities in the ceiling, and I wondered if you just had guards up there, but I felt them tense when you walked in." Percy said as he bowed to the Fire Lord.
"Very well. Now, on to business. I have a proposition for you." He said as Percy sat down. "We are getting assassin attacks every month, and I need a body guard for Zuko and Azula. It seems that my brother is going to protect my son, but I have yet to find a body guard for Azula."
"I want you to be Azula's body guard."
