Book 2; chapter 3
Percy watched from the Olympia as the Gaang was thrown into the swamp by the tornado. Jason didn't spare a second glance and dispelled the tornado. "Keep us in the air. I have a bad feeling about this place."
Azula walked up beside him. "And what do you suggest we do? What if the Avatar sneaks out and we don't notice?"
Percy grinned as he nodded to Leo. The impish boy smiled as he pushed a button on the console. A slot opened up on the sides of the ship as drones flew out, and scattered across the swamp. "The drones should handle that problem. Now it is time for lunch. I'm thinking sandwiches."
Later that night, after fending off another five tornadoes, Azula and Percy took over as night watch, replacing Piper and Jason.
"Did I ever tell you how my father came to power?" Azula asked Percy, who was watching the drone cameras
"I don't think so. I tried to put together what happened, but I could only get that after Iroh lost his son, your grandfather died, and your father was in his will to take over as the Fire Lord, and your mother disappeared. Other than that, nothing. I dropped it after a while." Percy said as he looked at Azula. "What brought this up?"
"Just asking. I suppose it's because this reminds me of Father's mission for Zuko when he got banished." Azula sighed as she crossed her legs. "It was just after Uncle had lost cousin Lu Ten in the battle of Ba Sing Se. I wasn't very close to him, so I wasn't exactly sad at the news. Father and grandfather were talking in the throne room, me and Zuko decided to listen in.
"Father, You must have realized, That with Lu Ten gone, Iroh's bloodline has ended. After his son's death, my brother abandoned the siege at Ba Sing Se. and who knows when he will return home. But I am here, Father and my children are alive." Ozai said.
"Say what it is you want." Azulon said.
"Father, revoke Iroh's birthright. I am your humble servant here to serve you and our nation." Ozai stated. "Use me."
You dare suggest I betray Iroh?" Azulon said in shock. "My first born? Directly after the demise of his only beloved son! I think Iroh has suffered enough. But you? Your punishment has scarcely begun!"
"After that, Zuko ran away, but I stayed behind, and learned what father's punishment was. He was to feel the exact pain that Uncle felt at the death of his son." Azula said, pulling her knees to her chest.
"Ozai was to kill Zuko." Percy guessed. Azula nodded in confirmation, and Percy tightened his grip on the hilt of his sword. "Your mother then decided to kill Azulon to protect Zuko, and the result was her banishment, and your father took the crown."
"Yeah." Azula said. "Not long after you showed up, and befriended all of us, when you weren't training, you were like an older brother to Zuko, after a few months, and begged father to let him train with you. Father never really cared for my brother, so he saw it as an excuse to get him out of his sight."
"I can see that Ozai favored you over Zuko." Percy said as he rubbed the beads on his neck. "He had the best of the best to instruct you, praised your natural born talents, and your ability to manipulate people, despite being so young."
"Yeah, he did. And when father saw you and Zuko sparring, something changed, he became nice whenever you were around, and it made me jealous. He started paying more attention to you, and less to me." Azula confessed, tears in her eyes. "And I was afraid you would replace me. So I tried to do the same thing I did to Ty Lee and Mai to you, but it never worked. I could never..." Azula didn't finish the sentence. She didn't need to. She couldn't threaten Percy, couldn't betray him, couldn't control him. Something always got in the way.
"I know. I saw you run away when Ozai started paying attention to me. Zuko felt the same way, but he told me soon after. I told him, I never wanted to replace any of you, I just wanted to have friends, because at the time, I thought all of mine were dead, and I wanted to forget the pain I felt when I lost them." Percy said as he stood up, prompting Azula to stand up as well. Percy was about to say something else, when a thin mist covered the top of the ship, immediately causing Percy to be on guard. Azula stood behind him, dagger in one hand, a fireball in the other.
The mist shifted, and four blurry figures stood up from the mist. They seemed to be in traditional clothes from all four nations, laughing in harmony, as they watched a group of children playing together. Percy lowered his guard and moved closer, but Azula stayed in place. The four adults looked back, and smiled, holding out their hands, as if becoming for Azula and Percy to join them. Azula moved closer and the figures called to the children, but it was muffled. The faces of the figures all were blurred out, like the children. But they all had one thing in common, raven hair, with gold or green eyes, just like the children.
A gust of wind blew the mist away, and the figures with them.
"Percy, what was that?" Azula asked, having a few ideas in her mind, but quickly dismissing them.
"I have a few ideas, and I don't like any of them. I just think we should get some sleep."
The next morning, the Gaang had left the swamp, and Olympia resumed the chase.
Later on, they watched from the sky as a village celebrated Avatar day, and Azula almost laughed when they watched Aang wince at his statue being lit on fire. A day passed and Percy was about ready to send the rest of the town off the edge of the cliff for their messed up sense of justice, but laughed when Aang showed up on ridiculously large clothing, belonging to avatar Kyoshi.
Not long after, a massive dust devil appeared around Aang, and was replaced by Kyoshi, who admitted to killing Chin. After the Avatar's speech was over, she looked directly up, at the Olympia. After she vanished, Percy looked to Jason. "Send in the rhinos."
Jason nodded as he jumped off the edge, flying down to the fire nation soldiers below. "Leo, launch a ballista at the town center." Leo hesitated for a second, but did so anyway, and the ballista shot directly through the center, making it collapse as the fire capsules embedded in the shaft broke, setting it ablaze, along with the nearby Avatar statues.
Percy had the ship land in the water nearby, to give the engines a break so Leo could do maintenance. Percy knew the Gaang would win this fight, so he didn't bother going into the town himself. No need to expose themselves now. Annabeth had noticed the fishing ship down in the water, but narrowed her eyes at the lack of a port nearby. When she asked a nearby villager, she was told that it was a merchant ship that visited every so often, and the earth benders would go and collect the fish they caught. Annabeth still had a bad feeling about it.
After that, the Gaang stopped at an earth bending town, where they caught word of an earth bending tournament. Percy and Gang decided to move on, where they met up with a Fire Nation engineer who showed up on a train-tank combo. Leo made a few modifications, and they spent the night planning.
"This is the moment that matters most, after they leave this town, they have to cross a massive desert." Percy said as he traced the map. "So they are most likely to spend a large amount of money on food and other supplies so they can make it to one of the few Oasis scattered about."
"How will we follow them? The Tank won't do well in the sand." Leo asked as he fidgeted. "I can make a few modifications, but it will take a lot of time."
"We won't take it across the desert, I have a plan for there should the avatar escape. But first, we need to make them exhausted. The bison should start shedding soon, and with that we can follow them exactly. After the first night, they will be exhausted enough to not think or fight properly, not after falling into a rhythm. Leo, Piper, Jason, and Hazel will stay in the Olympia and follow behind, Leo will be Leo, Piper will act as the role of healer this time, Jason, you need to cloud the sky, make it hard to navigate, and Hazel, keep the ship hidden. Frank, you will provide recon, chance into different animals each time, and don't get too close, Annabeth will probably be more observant after the first relocation."
Azula stepped up. "Meanwhile, Percy, Ty Lee, Mai, and myself will be the attack force. The first time around, we will get close enough to wake them up with the sound of the engine, making them panic and scramble to leave, forcing them to leave their supplies behind." Azula pointed to four placed on the map. "Thanks to, uh what do you call it? A satellite?" Percy nodded. "Yeah, those, there are four placed they could land after the desert that is big enough for the bison to land, and to be able to set up camp. Our biggest challenge will be here, at this natural bridge, the tank can't cross."
"So we have mounts that will get us closer. Should they pick up an earth Bender along the way, it could be a problem." Percy finished. "I believe that Zuko and Iroh are close by, so keep an eye out. Zuko may have gotten stronger, but Iroh is more dangerous than we are led to believe."
"I can modify Olympia to be able to take the tank with us, but we won't be able to be at such a high altitude any longer. At max, maybe 2 or 3 thousand feet in the air. We will be easier to see, but only if Hazel isn't on the ship." Leo said as he pulled out a blueprint.
"Make it detachable, we are only using it for this mission, after the desert we are sticking to the Olympia." Percy said as Leo nodded and left the room. "The final conflict could happen anywhere, so don't relax."
And with that, the plan started, as the air bison flew past the workshop buried in the mountain.
Okay, I just wanted to clarify this, Currently Azula is 14(As she was in the show) and Percy is 16 physically, as are the rest of the group, so there. just wanted to clarify that
