Chapter 1

Percy's POV

As I sat, staring across the Black Lake, I thought back to when my life officially got turned upside down.

**Flashback**

Sitting at a small dinner in Boston, I couldn't help but think back to what I had just heard. Around twenty minutes, at Camp Half-Blood, I had received an Iris message from Piper informing me of the fate of my cousin, allie, and friend, Jason Grace. I remember the initial shock that I felt, which had caused me to accidentally mist travel to Boston, where Annabeth was visiting her cousin, before it was replaced by shame. Shame because I could have changed everything. Had I agreed to join Apollo on his quest, there was a chance that Jason could have still been alive. I could have fought alongside my cousin. I could have had his back in his time of need, much like he has had mine in my times of need.

"Stop thinking like that Percy!" Annabeth scolded, breaking me out of my thoughts, and sounding extremely upset, which was reasonable considering everything that I had just told her. 

"I wasn't thinking anything wise girl." I insisted.

Annabeth scoffed, "please Seaweed Brain, im not stupid, I know you are blaming yourself for Jason's death, and you need to stop. This isn't your fault."

"I should have been there for him, had I gone with Apollo, Jason could still be alive."

"Or you could be dead right alongside him" Annabeth countered, "There is nothing you could have done Percy, Jason was an excellent fighter, anything that could take him down, would have given you a challenge to combat, let alone protect him from, so stop blaming yourself!"

"We need to tell Thalia." I said morosely. "She deserves to know that her brother is dead"

"Your right." Annabeth said sadly, probably realising how much this would affect Thalia.

"She just got him back" I mumbled. "We need to tell her in person, this is too personal to not tell her over an IM, at least for her." I continued, standing up and holding my hand out to Annabeth.

"Do you think you can get us there in one peace?" Annabeth asked, referring to my newly learned ability to travel by the mist.

"That was one time Annabeth" I insisted, "besides, I was able to locate your foot within the mist within a few minutes." Annabeth just rolled her eyes at me

"Lets go Perce" She said forlornly, standing up. "We have delayed long enough."

"Your right, let's go" I said, shifting us into mist and moving us through the air in search of the hunters camp, before reforming just outside the borders. "Best not to just appear in the middle of their camp" I said, "I don't need any arrows where Apollo doesn't shine." I chuckled, remembering one of the first times I tried to visit Thalia through the mist, and I almost got turned into a porcupine, before the hunters realised who I was.

As me and Annabeth walked towards the hunters camp, I could help but enjoy the peace and quiet of the woods.

"What do you think she is doing right now?" Annabeth asked

"I don't know, probably pranking some of the hunters, or maybe training some new recruits." I responded chuckling, thinking of the updates that Thalia had frequently given us since the end of the Giant war. "Have you heard from her much lately?" I asked.

"Yea, she IM'ed me last week, they found some interesting new recruits."

"Interesting how?" I inquired.

"Apparently they found a young daughter of Poseidon, she is five years old, her mother was killed in a car accident." Annabeth responded, looking at me for a response

"I have a sister?" I asked, thinking for a second that Thalia had found us, before realising I was just surprised. "What's her name?"

"Her name is Andromeda"

"I wonder if her and Estelle would get along well." I mused, "maybe I could take her home to my mom, and give her a home outside the demigod life."

Annabeth laughed, "I don't think Artemis will like you trying to take one of her hunters too well, but you can try, besides, we have arrived." She indicated ahead, and sure enough I could see the camp of the hunters.

"Do you want to go inform Artemis of our arrival? I can go deal with Thalia." I asked.

"Why should you tell Thalia" she asked, looking slightly irritated.

"Because I am used to getting struck by her lighting" I responded, cringing in memory of the last time she got upset when I was around. "Besides, Artemis likes you more than she does me." I finished with a smile.

"Fine." she responded, rolling her eyes. "Just don't get yourself killed."

"I will try." I responded, before heading in search of Thalia.

After wandering the camp for a few minutes and saying hi to some of the younger hunters, who don't seem to hate me too much, I still hadn't found her. "Hey Atalanta!" I called out to the daughter of Apollo, "Have you seen Thalia?"

"Yes, boy" She responded with a joking light in her eyes.

Let me explain real quick why the hunters are being nice, so apparently, after helping save Artemis, and leading two wars, and Thalia being the Lieutenant, the hunters have apparently accepted that I am a decent male, and as such I have been permitted to visit my cousin every so often, so you could say that me and the hunters hold a mutual understanding of each other, possibly even friends for some of them.

"Let me rephrase, do you know where she is, Ata?" I asked again, smirking

"She is over at the archery range, training some new recruits." she responded. "And don't call me Ata!" She finished, sending a glare my way.

"Ok ok." I said, raising my hands in a calming matter. "I will be heading that way."

**Five Minutes Later**

Walking into the Archery range, I saw Thalia behind three young girls, that I didn't recognize, and as I looked towards the three girls, I saw the one that must be my sister, the youngest of the three, with jet black hair, and sea green eyes, slightly lighter than my own.

"Careful there Thalia, you know how us children of Poseidon are with Bows and Arrows." I called out. Scaring the three younglings and causing my sister to let go of the bow string and send the arrow off sideways and towards me. "My point exactly!" I said with a smirk, and stepping to the side to avoid the arrow. "That must be the Andromeda that I have heard too much about." I continued, nodding towards my sister.

"Kelp Head!" Thalia called out, "what are you doing here?"

My mood sombered instantly "I need to tell you something Thals."

Thalia, noticing my change of mood, instructed the three recruits to wait for her while she talked to me.

"Whats up Kelp Head?" she asked, a teasing light glowing in her eyes.

"Thalia..." I started slowly, "it's about Jason."

"What happened, is he hurt?" Thalia asked worriedly.

"Thalia" I breathed deeply, deciding to just tell her straight up. "Thalia, Jason is dead."

"What?" she said after standing there for a few moments, tears starting to leak out of her eyes "what do you mean he is dead."

"He was helping Apollo, and things went south." I responded slowly. "Piper contacted us not too long ago, to tell us what happened." I said before telling her what Piper had told us happened.

After a few minutes of Thalia just sitting there in silence, she asked me where they were taking his body, after telling her she said she needed some time to herself, before telling me to watch the recruits, and heading off into the forest.

As I sat there thinking back on today's events, my thoughts were interrupted by my sister tapping my side.

"Whats up." I said, looking towards her.

"Did you say 'us children of Poseidon' earlier?" she asked, looking into my eyes.

"Yes, I did." I said, a small smile coming onto my face. "You're a daughter of Poseidon aren't you?" I inquired

"Yep!" she said, popping the 'P', "Are you my brother?"

I couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm. "I am your brother, Percy Jackson at your service." I said dramatically, holding my hand out for her to shake, only for her to ignore it as she jumped into my arms and gave me a giant hug, at least for a five year old.

"The other hunters have told me so much about you!" she said, seeming to buzz with enthusiasm, "did you really defeat a furry and a minotaur before you ever reached camp? And did you actually defeat Ares at the age of twelve, and save Thalia from a tree, and save Artemis from the sky, and protect Olympus in two wars? She asked, before continuing to machinegun off more questions.

I couldn't help but scratch the back of my neck with slight embarrassment, "well, I didn't do it alone, I had a lot of help."

She looked like she was about to say something else before getting interrupted by a voice from off to the side

"Oh please Seaweed Brain, you had no help with the minotaur, and the only help you got with the fury was Chiron giving you a sword. And you beat Ares mostly on your own skill." Annabeth said, walking up behind me with a small smile gracing her lips, and Artemis standing behind her.

"Ok, but the rest I had help with." I persisted, only for her to just roll her eyes at me

"You must be andromeda." Annabeth said, turning towards the young girl. "I am Annabeth, this dorks girlfriend."

"So does that mean you will be my sister someday?" she asked, bouncing with more excitement, and causing me and Annabeth to blush simultaneously.

"Hopefully" Annabeth whispered in her ear, just loud enough for me to hear, and blush even more.

"Lady Artemis" I said, turning away from the two, "Pleasure to see you, I just wish it wasn't under such sad times."

"Yes, Annabeth told me of the fate of Thalia's brother." Artemis responded "How did Thalia take the news?"

"She said that she needed time alone." I responded sadly

"She is strong" Artemis responded, "And I will let her visit camp Jupiter to say goodbye"

"Thank you Lady Artemis." I responded, with a slight bow.

"I understand that you had another issue to discuss while you were here." She said, tipping her head towards Andromeda.

"Yes, I wish to take Andromeda home with me, I think that she could have a nice life with my mother, at least for a small time, besides, my sister Estelle could use some company." I said with a hopeful look.

"Should she wish it, I will free Andromeda from her vows, as long as when she returns to the world of Demigods, you let me offer her another spot within the hunt." Artemis responded, smiling, "Andromeda come over here real quick!" Artemis called out

"Coming" She called back, bounding over to where me and Artemis stood, with Annabeth trailing behind "What's up?"

"Your brother has an offer for you." Artemis responded

"Ok!" Andromada said excitedly before turning to face me.

"Would you like to come home with me?" I asked "You can stay with my mortal family." I said smiling

"What about the hunt?" She asked

"Well you would leave the hunt, for the time, and when you are older you could return, should you wish to." Artemis responded.

"Ok!" she responded, excitedly. "I will do it!"

"Perfect, and just so you know, you will be living with my mother, step father, and my half sister Estelle." I responded smiling, "Now before we go, we need to see Thalia once more."

And so as we waited for Thalia to return, I continued to tell Andromeda about the family that she would answer, and Annabeth told her about more of our adventures, causing me to blush more and more. And after waiting an unknown amount of time, Thalia walked back onto the range, tear stained cheeks, and red rimmed eyes.

"Thalia." Annabeth said, rushing over and giving her a hug. "I am so sorry!"

"Yea Thals." I said, walking over and pulling them both in for a hug,

'You have nothing to be sorry for." Thalia said, wiping her eyes. "The fates willed that it was Jason's time, there is nothing we could do"

"Sister" Artemis said, placing her hand on Thalia's shoulder, "go rest, tomorrow I will transport you to camp Jupiter to say your final farewells."

And as Thalia said goodbye, and as me and Annabeth left the hunters camp with Andromeda, I couldn't help but think, that things couldn't possibly get any worse.
