Chapter 30

Poseidon's point of view

I was in my undersea palace with Sally when I was summoned to a council meeting by Zeus.  I was a little surprised by this  since we had already had a meeting today. I told sally that I had been summoned to a meeting and then teleported to the throne room on Olympus.  When I arrived I noticed that Percy was already there. When I looked over at him I couldn't help but feel extremely proud of him.

He had gone through so much yet still succeeded; now he was doing well as a new god. After the rest of the council arrived Athena said, "Why did you call this meeting Father?"

Then Zeus spoke he said, "Perseus just returned from Camp Jupiter, they haven't yet discovered who attacked him...

I interrupted my brother saying to Percy, "You didn't get attacked again did you?"

for some reason, Percy looked slightly amused when he said, "No Dad I'm fine."

Hey you can't really blame me for being worried about my son, I'm used to worrying about him almost constantly, and it will take time to get used to the fact that he is immortal and can handle himself.  Zeus continued, "We need this person to be found quickly, we don't want another attack the next time Perseus visits the camp or when Piper is revealed. Perseus said that he knows of a way we could solve this quickly, but he hasn't told me what this plan is yet so I will allow him to explain."

Percy started by explaining that when he had arrived he had asked the praetors if they had made any progress, they had told him that they had questioned the cohort indicated by the weapon, he said that they hadn't had anything to do with the attack. He explained that whoever was behind the attack must have switched their pilum with one from the third cohort in order to divert suspicion.

He said that he had thought about what to do next and came up with his plan. "What is this plan?" Athena asked.

In response, I said, "if you had let him continue instead of interrupting him he probably would have told you owl head."

she just glared at me and Percy continued  he explained that with his powers over loyalty he could find out if a person is loyal or not, and who or what they are loyal to.

He said that using those powers he would probably be able to find out who was behind the attack and that with his powers over heroes he could find out more about the person. He said that he didn't really like the plan because he would basically be spying on the heroes, but he believes we have no choice if we want to find the person quickly.

After that, the room was silent as we considered what he had said. I now understand why he got Zeus to call a meeting, there is a chance that some of the other gods may not approve of this plan, but like Percy, I couldn't see any other option if we wanted this solved quickly. After we had considered Percy's plan Zeus said "All in favour of this plan."

I could see that almost everyone voted in favour of the plan, I suppose that we all agreed that it was the best option if we wanted this dealt with quickly.  The only ones that voted against it were Ares, and Dionysus had fallen asleep again. After the decision was reached Zeus said, "you will carry out this plan as soon as possible."

Percy replied, "Of course Lord Zeus, I will do it as soon as this meeting ends."

After that Zeus dismissed the meeting and we all left. When I returned to my palace I told Sally about the meeting, I could tell that she was proud of Percy too.

Percy's point of view

After the meeting, I returned to Camp Jupiter and informed Frank and Reyna that the council had agreed to my plan. Then I put it into action. I closed my eyes and concentrated on the legionaries, and veterans in the camp. Most of them were loyal to the gods, Rome, and had accepted the peace with the Greeks, however, there was one person who was different than the others.  They weren't as loyal to the gods and Rome as the others; they were also completely against the peace with the Greeks.

Now for stage two of my plan, I concentrated on that hero whose loyalties seemed off and used my powers over heroes to find out more about them. Apparently, he is a legacy of Ceres in the fourth cohort. He had grown up in the legion but he had started to turn against the gods, he had several friends who were demigods, and he felt sorry for them since their godly parent basically ignored them unless they needed them for something.

He had started to resent the gods for treating their children that way. This guy's hate for the gods made me sad because it reminded me of Luke who had been a hero in the end, but still. This kid had been one of Octavian's followers, and he had been waiting for an opportunity to strike back at the gods. He had attacked me thinking that I wouldn't be familiar with my new powers, so he had thought he might have a chance of possibly injuring me.

He had just been going through the daily routine, pretending that he was still loyal to the gods and Rome.  The guy's name is Zach Stephens. He was just waiting for his next chance to strike back at the gods, and I knew that if we didn't deal with him quickly, he would probably attack Piper.  Once I opened my eyes again Frank and Reyna looked at me expectantly curious about what I had found out.

When I told them their expressions became slightly sad, I understood what they were feeling; obviously, they knew Zach and hadn't realized what he was hiding.  But as a true roman would they went to go get him so he can be punished for his crime. I told them to only tell him that they knew it was him who threw the pilum  and to keep his other secrets to ourselves, I also thought it best not to tell him how we had found out.

We didn't need to give him any more reason to hate us; I could tell that he already resented the gods enough without learning that one of them, the new god who had gone to Camp Jupiter for a short time before his godhood, had pried into your deepest darkest secrets.

I stood off to the side of the principia as Frank and Reyna returned with three other legionaries. Two of them were wearing centurion badges, while the third was a brown haired guy in his late teens with a scowl on his face, this was obviously Zach, the other dead giveaway to his identity was that he was ranting, "Stupid Greeks, unworthy of godhood, should have been a roman."

that was just part of his rant the rest was mostly curses in both Latin and English.

Hearing his rant made my anger flare, this kid was acting like the Greek demigods sat around and did nothing, when in reality the Greeks usually had harder lives than the Romans. I couldn't help but think of everything I had gone through as a demigod, never getting a break, just one fight after another.  But I pushed my anger back down.  I don't want to create a scene, and Zach didn't even know I was here, it would be best if I let Frank, Reyna and the others take care of him. My anger may have subsided but a scowl remained on my face.

I glanced into the principia to see if they had finished dealing with him, one of the centurions was just coming out the door the other had remained below where the cells were to keep an eye on Zach. After the centurion was gone I went back in I was curious if Reyna had tried any of her new powers yet. When I walked into the building I could see that Reyna had a sad expression on her face.

When she saw me she put on a look of fake calm.  I said to her, "I understand how you're feeling, a guy who I thought was my friend tried to kill me, and after he failed at that he helped Saturn rise. But in the end he came around, he saw that the gods do care and he understood that life under Saturn would be a whole lot worse. Maybe Zach will come around."

Judging by Reyna's expression what I had said hadn't helped at all. finally, she said, "But Lord Perseus, he attacked you, a god, he could be put to death for such a crime."

I frowned   I believed that the guy deserved a chance to redeem himself.  Now I know you are probably thinking are you crazy you saw yourself how much he hates the gods and the Greeks, do you really think a guy that hates the gods that much, could ever redeem himself. But Luke's betrayal, then final act of heroism had changed my outlook on these things. I finally said, "He shouldn't be killed for that, he deserves a chance to redeem himself, if he doesn't and continues to act the way he is well then if he commits further crimes he may end up with a more severe punishment. I'm not saying that he shouldn't be punished I'm just saying be lenient,"

Reyna looked stunned by my words, she said, "but he attacked you?"

I said "yes but unless I was distracted which I wasn't there is no way he would be able to hurt me. I believe that everyone, well almost everyone, deserves a second chance."

Reyna said, "You haven't changed much have you?"

I shrugged and said "other than my appearance and voice, I think I am much the same as I always was, well beside the fact that I am a lot more powerful.
