Apparently this is a pretty popular non-canon PJO ship. I can see why. Travis and Katie both have strong personalities and share a cute rivalry in the books. Travis is much more mischievous than her, so she would help "sweeten" him up a bit while he would hopefully allow her to be more fun-loving and less stern. I don't know. They were cute and I ship it, though it's not a ship I am a massive fan of.
