Percy gets a goldfish

Ok. I am sorry that it has taken me FOREVER to update. I don't have an excuse. I truly AM sorry though.
I have a couple of things you should know.

First, I am trying a new format for this chapter. If you like this format, comment. If you don't like this format, comment. If you can't see the difference, comment. If you like rainbow-puppy-sparkle-magical-unicorns, comment.

Second, This story is NOT IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER ( well this chapter is, but that is not the point) . I will probably reorder the chapters after there are a couple more. Okay? Okay.

Third, This chapter is kind of... I don't know, I would say cliche, but I haven't seen any other stories like this. Predictable? over the top? I don't know. This is just a warning, you might not even need this warning, but I feel that it's necessary.

And finally, If you actually read this, comment. I will dedicate the next chapter to the first person to comment (Even if you are not the first person, please still comment. I want to know how many people read authors notes).

Okay. Sorry for the long author's note. On with the story!

Percy's Age: 5
Date: December 18 (the date does not really matter, for now, at least)
Setting: Pet store
Scene: Percy getting (buying? Adopting? Kidnapping? I don't really know) a goldfish.
POV: third person

Percy walked into a pet store, dragging his mom behind him. Sally did not want to go into the pet store, because in the store there were fish and Percy + Fish = bad. Last time Percy saw caged (tanked?) fish that were not happy, he threw a tantrum and the fish tanks glass broke, spraying water and glass everywhere. Sally, not wanting to cause another scene, told Percy he could not get a pet fish. But Percy, being the stubborn four year old he was, would not have it.

That's why Percy is currently dragging a frustrated Sally through a pet store. Percy was strong for a five year old. Of course if Sally really wanted to she could overpower him, but even though she didn't want to draw attention to herself, she loved seeing her little baby boy happy.

Now back to the situation at hand, Percy was dragging Sally through the pet store. He wanted to go see the fish, but he didn't know where they were. An employee, who was stifling her laughter, walked over to Percy, completely ignored Sally, and got down on her knees so she could be eye- level with the adorable five year old.

"What are you looking for, sweetheart?" She asked in a kind voice.
Percy squinted at her name tag, and replied respectfully,
"Well Miss Art, That's your name right?" The employee, now identified as Art, nodded.
"OK, that's a cool name, by the way." Percy continued " Anyways, I was looking for the fish, but I don't know where they are. May you please help me?" Art was a bit taken aback by Percy's manners, but she was pleased nonetheless.

"Of course I can help you, Percy." Art stood up, then she seemed to notice Sally. She was glaring at Art, and Art knew why. She had said Percy's name, even though Percy hadn't introduced himself.

"I heard you say his name when you two came in." She quickly backtracked. Sally nodded but she was still suspicious. Then she caught Arts eye and Art winked. Percy watched this exchange, but still didn't know what was wrong.

"Follow me, I will show you the fish," Art said. She started walking away when Percy ran up and grabbed her hand. Art immediately stiffened and pulled her hand back, but then she looked down at Percy. Percy was looking back up at her, with big sad eyes. He had just wanted to hold her hand, what was wrong with that? Art sighed and relaxed her arm, letting Percy hold her hand as she lead them towards the fish.

Sally followed them. She was no idiot, she had a pretty good idea of who Art really was. But why would a goddess help her son? Wasn't that against ancient laws? Or were those only towards the godly parent? Sally was rattled. Her son was being helped by a goddess. She also thought that she had been winked at, whatever that meant. Then it occurred to Sally that Artemis was aware of the fact that Sally knew who she was. That would explain the wink. Yes, that would be it. Sally shook herself out of her little stupor and continued after her son and the goddess. (Comment if you got those really subtle references, and tell me where they are from).

Once they got to the fish, Percy immediately ran up to the piranhas. (Why the PET STORE had piranhas, I don't know, but it goes with the story.) Percy placed his hands on the glass and stared intently at the fish. To someone who didn't know of his powers, it would look like he was having an intense staring contest with a fish. Artemis and Sally, however, knew that he was probably having a conversation with the dangerous fish. All of a sudden, Percy took the top off of the tank and stuck his hand into the tank. The piranha tank. If anyone else had done that, they probably would have lost their hand. But this wasn't just anyone, This was Perseus Jackson. The piranhas didn't go to eat his flesh, instead they nudged his hand like an affectionate kitty. Percy smiled, pulled his hand out of the water, put the top back on the tank and turned around. He looked at Artemis, who he still thought was a employee, and said,

"Good job. These fish are happy. They also have enough food. The water is also clean and the right temperature" Then Percy smiled and walked away to start examining all the other fish, making sure that they were happy and had the right living conditions.

Sally and Artemis were both speechless. They were not surprised by the fact he was making sure all the fish happy and healthy. No, they were surprised by the fact he told them.

Artemis couldn't help but think that maybe this little boy wasn't that bad. He seemed to care about nature and was polite. She would NEVER consider dating him. Eww. But maybe she wouldn't be as sour towards him.

Sally was proud. She was proud that her son was brave enough to put his hand in a piranha tank. She was proud that her son cared for the fish and was making sure they were happy. She was proud of his manners. Sally looked over at Artemis, and had to stifle a laugh. That was another thing she was proud of. Her son had rendered a goddess speechless.

Soon Percy came back over. He turned to Artemis and said, once again,

"Good job. Every single fish is happy and healthy. That is a good thing. I really appreciate the fact that you people actually take care of your fish." Then he turned to Sally and said,

"Mommy, there is this one fish that is getting bullied. I was wondering if we could adopt her and bring her home as a pet. I know you said that I couldn't get a pet fish, but I would take good care of her and make sure she doesn't get bullied anymore." Sally would have said no, but then she saw Percy's 'lost seal eyes' and considered what he had said. Finally, she sighed, looked at Percy again and said,

"Fine." Percy's eyes lit up and he jumped up and down. The water in the fish tanks reflected his feelings and swirled around in joy. He hugged his mom and turned to Artemis and hugged her too. She didn't hug him back, but she also didn't shun him. Then he ran back to the tank with the bullied fish in it. He just reached in and scooped the fish up, he also scooped some water up to keep the fish alive. The water didn't drip out of his hands like it would on a normal person. Artemis then got him a fish bag (You know what I mean, right?), and Percy gently placed the fish and the water in the bag. They proceeded to get all the required things needed to take care of a fish.

"What are you going to name him?" Artemis asked. Percy turned and said politely,

"Well Miss Art, she is actually a girl, and I am going to name her..." Then he looked at the fish and had a quick conversation with it.

"She seems to like the name Artemis, miss. So I think that's what I'll name her."
Sally looked over at Artemis and couldn't help but laugh at her face. Artemis' face was a mix between honor and embarrassment. Artemis pulled herself together and said to Percy,

"That's a great name. I hope you have fun with your new fish."

Artemis then helped them check out and watched them get into Sally's car. As the car pulled away, she whispered to herself
"Bye Perseus. I hope we meet again." Then she flashed out, going back to Olympus.
