Family Tree

Ok THIS is a real chapter I promise

This was a request from @biologically-a-demon I hope this lived up to your standards :)

Percy was already exhausted and the first school day was hardly over. His first day as a sophomore was not as appealing as he had hoped. Although, he was grateful that he could spend more than one year at a school. He's always been kicked out one way or another.

The fifteen minute break was now over and Percy went on to find his 3rd period. He followed the crowd of students towards the third floor of the 3000 building and entered the classroom labeled 3307. He picked a random seat near the back of the class and slumped into it. He watched as more students piled into the room and reunited with their old friends. Percy sighed. The only friend he had last year was Rachel and she was gone now since her father moved her to a preppy private school.

The bell rang this signaling the start of third period. The teacher stood up from his desk at the front of the room and introduced himself.

"Hello, class. I am Mr. Perez and welcome to World History. So right now I'm going to pass out the curriculum-" and after that Percy zoned out. He could tell most of the class did as well. Percy was about to fall asleep, but Mr. Perez clapped once loudly. Percy, and many others jumped up.

"Ok now that everyone is AWAKE, I'm going to assign your first assignment," informed Mr. Perez. The class groaned. "I know, I know. Homework on the first day of school sucks. But this is mainly for us to get to know each other. What I would like everyone to do, is to make a family tree from your oldest relative and go all the way down to you." At that Percy perked up. He wasn't so sleepy now. "You'll have until Wednesday to finish this and then we'll have Thursday and Friday for everyone to come on up and present. We're a history class folks. And this is history."

The bell for the end of third period rang shortly after that and Percy went on to finish the rest of his day.

"Hey, Mom, I'm home," Percy called as he stepped into the apartment.

"Hi, Percy," greeted his mother. "How was your first day!"

"It was alright. My history teacher gave us a pretty fun assignment," Percy grinned boyishly. Sally raised her eyebrows and looked at her son.

"What's this assignment?" she asked.

"We have to make a family tree from our oldest known relative."

"Now which side of the family will it be?"

"No offense mom but I'm doing dad's side. And guess what?"

"What?"

"I'm gonna change all their names so no one has a clue. But I'm gonna make them really good ones. I've already got some ideas," Percy explained to his mother. Sally laughed at him and told him to go to his room and get started on the assignment.

Percy tapped his pencil on in chin. The blank piece of paper stared directly at him.

"Chaos would be first right?" he questioned to himself. "Yes," he concluded. Writing lightly with his pencil, he wrote "chaos" on his paper so that he could easily erase it and replace with a made up name later. And so Percy continued. From Chaos, he branched out to Gaea, Tartarus, Erebus, and Nyx. He continued to Typhon, Uranus, Pontus, Hemera, and so on. By the time he had finished the family tree, he had used every inch of the paper and his pencil had dulled beyond repair.

"Dam," he looked proudly at his work. "Annabeth would be proud of me," he said to himself. He knew he still had to rename them, however. "Time for the fun part."

Chaos became Chris Douglas.

Gaea became Gertrude Douglas. He laughed at that one for quite a bit.

And on he went. He gave somewhat normal names to most of them, but he did throw in the occasional silly one for the gods he didn't like.

For example, Zeus became Zeke Cox and Ares became Arnold Cox. For Annabeth's sake, he turned Hera into Bertha Jenkins. He kept Hestia's name because Hestia was one of the gods he genuinely liked. Also it wasn't that weird of a name.

Percy had so much fun with this project that he forgot he had more than one day to do it. He shrugged it off and relaxed the following day, while most of his classmates struggled to finish it at midnight.

The first school week passed by quickly and before Percy knew it he was sitting in third period on Thursday, when they were supposed o present their family trees.

"Alright, class, I hope all of you finished your family trees because we will be presenting today," informed Mr. Perez to the class. The class was silent. "Love the attitude guys," he said sarcastically. "Now, who wants to go first?" Nobody raised their hand. Then hesitantly, Percy slowly raised his hand into the air. "Alright, thank you, Perseus, right?" The class giggled at Percy's full name and the boy himself blushed from embarrassment.

"Yeah, but I go by Percy," he told his teacher. Mr. Perez smiled at him and motioned for Percy to come to the head of the class.

Percy placed his paper underneath the projector and had to zoom out quite a significant amount since his family tree was so large. The students began to whisper among themselves discussing the strangeness of Percy's family.

"Oh my god, did you really have that much incest in your family? EW!" yelled one student. The class erupted into laughter. Percy panicked. He didn't think this through did he.

"Hey, hey!" called Mr. Perez to get the attention of the class. "Let Percy explain without any interruptions, please. If I hear another word out of anyone's mouth that's 5 points off the assignment, got it?" The class quieted down after than.

"Yeah I have a good explanation for that. We're from Alabama," said Percy. Oh my gods that was the most half assed excuse I have ever said, Percy thought to himself. The class burst into laughter once again. Involuntarily, Percy's cheeks turned red from embarrassment.

"Okay class enough of that. Percy, would you please continue," interrupted Mr. Perez. Percy silently thank him. He cleared his throat and began.

"The only reason why this tree looks so big is because my family had A LOT of kids. Like A LOT. Basically, they just couldn't stop doing you know what." The class chuckled and Mr. Perez gave them a hard stare. Percy continued after they quieted down. "Actually, the furthest it goes is up to Chris Douglas, who is technically my great great grandfather. I've never met the guy though. I actually have hardly met anyone on here. Except for my biological father, his brothers and sisters, and my cousins. Everyone else above that, I've never met. OH! And Grandpa Kyle," Percy finished. He looked back at the seated students in front of him and they were all staring at him. One girl sitting in the front row raised her hand. Mr. Perez gestured for her to speak.

"Aside all the incest, I'm just curious how you haven't met more of your family considering how big it is. If it's personal you don't have to answer," she added on quickly. Percy thought for a moment.

"Well some of them I've only ever seen once or twice. That includes my father. I've seen him less times than there are fingers on my hands. And I have never met a lot of them because they either live REALLY far away or they hate my guts and don't want to see me or they're dead," Percy explained to her. The girl's eyes widened and she leaned back into her chair. "Ya know, now that I come to think of it, almost everyone on this tree hates my guts except for like 3 or 4," Percy joked. Only one person laughed at his joke and they quickly sobered up once they realized they were the only one laughing.

"Any more questions for Percy?" asked Mr. Perez to the class. Two people raised their hands. Percy called on the African American boy sitting in the back.

"How many cousins do you have like, damn bro," he said. "And hold up, you got a lot of half brothers, too."

"Uh, yeah. Let's just say that my family gets around a lot," Percy explained. The class giggled at his explanation. "Also, some of my half brothers don't even know I exist. You could say I'm pretty new in the family tree." Percy then called on the other person who had raised their hand.

"You don't have to answer this, but you keep mentioning how some of your family hates you? I was just curious as to why," she asked him.

"I would actually love to answer that question," Percy began. "Mostly it's because of my father. A lot of people don't like him. So by default they hate me. Or they're just bad people and we hate each other. Like, Grandpa Kyle for example." Percy had to remind himself to say Kyle instead of Kronos. "He and I hated each other. And now he's dead. Also I'm pretty sure Great Grandma Gertrude is pretty evil but I haven't met her. My girlfriend hates Aunt Bertha. And Gruncle Typh- Tyler sucks too." Percy had almost said Typhon. "He's this huge dude who tried to destroy everything but my dad, aunts, uncles, and cousins stopped him."

"Your family is hella weird, bro," said one boy. Everyone erupted into laughs and giggles.

"Believe me, I know. Um, anyway that's all I've got," concluded Percy. He looked up at Mr. Perez.

"Great job, Percy. That was very entertaining. Now, who's going next?" Mr. Perez asked the class. Percy day back down in his seat and watched as the other students tried and failed to outdo his family tree.

His family is literally the Greek gods.

They can't be outdone.

I hope y'all enjoyed this funny little one shot. And once again, all idea credits go to @biologically-a-demon
