Holy Schist

I have no idea how long I sat amidst the piles of ash and burned down cabins. I shuddered. What--who--was powerful enough to cause all this destruction? To burn the entire area so suddenly?

"Perce," Jason placed his hand on my shoulder. I looked up and saw him frowning behind his glasses. "We have to go."

"Go where?" I asked, harshly. Too harshly. "We have nowhere to go, Jase! DON'T YOU GET IT? WE'RE CRAZY!!!" I threw the box on the floor without giving it much thought.

Jason just stared at me. His eyes were sad and tired but full of determination and I could tell that he still thinks that we're the ones thinking straight...

"Jason..." I placed all the frustration and anger that I kept for years and poured it in the next sentences that went through my mouth. "IS YOUR SKULL THAT THICK? DID THE BRICK THAT HIT YOU IN NEW ROME FINALLY MAkK YOU BONKERS? DO YOU THINK THAT THIS TIME, WE'RE THE ONES WHO RETAINED OUR MEMORIES WHILE EVERYONE LOST THEIRS? YOU DON'T GET IT JASON! THERE WAS NO QUEST! NO GODS! NO EVERYTHING! NO...Annabeth..." My voice cracked. I set my jaw and could feel myself still shaking violently with anger and frustration--a bit of desperation too. Out of the corner my eye, I saw Jason trembling. The reason wasn't the same as mine; He was shaking because of fear--Fear that what I said might be right.

I glanced back at the box and hastily crawled my way towards it. I regretted throwing it away. I wiped the dirt off of it.

"I-I guess you're right, Perce." Jason watched as I bit my lip. It was obvious that he was trying to stay strong for me--for us. "Let's just pretend that the demigod world never existed. Maybe then we can live a semblance of a normal life. Let's just--"

He was interrupted by Thalia. "Jason!" She was waving her arms frantically, her short hair flying in multiple directions. I have never, in my entire life, seen someone run as fast as Thalia right now--not even during wartime.

Jason whipped his head around so suddenly to look at his sister. "Sis?" He looked like a deer caught in headlights.

Thalia smiled, her blue eyes sparkling in happiness. "You remember, right?" She hugged him after Jason nodded. The son of Jupiter returned the embrace whole-heartedly.

"So..." Jason reluctantly pulled away."We aren't crazy?"

Thalia shook her head. "Everybody else is." Once again, Thalia embraced Jason. Only then did I notice the height difference. Jason was taller than Thalia.

As much as I wanted to avoid ruining the beautiful sibling reunion, we had more pressing matters to deal with. I cleared my throat and they broke apart.

"Who--Who else remembers?"Jason asked, sending a side-ways glance at me.

"Well," Thalia started. "Obviously us and Kelp Head--" She gave a small nod in my direction. "--Death Breath and Rachel, the Oracle."

Jason knitted his eyebrows and pursed his lips. "So...just the five of us then?"

"Yea--"

She was interrupted by a loud Whoop! that could probably heard all throughout the camp.

The three of us looked up and couldn't believe what we saw. A silhouette of a very familiar dragon.--the same one that helped us defeat Gaea--was slowly descending towards us.

"It can't be..." Jason spoke up with huge unbelieving eyes. His mouth hung agape both in wonder and disbelief.

"But it is..." Thalia smiled and let out a breath of incredulity. She then mumbled. "Never thought I'd see the day that I'd be slightly happy to see that kid."

"Thou Majesty Lord Fire has returned!" A curly-haired boy waved his arm in an overly dramatic gesture.

My smile dropped as a thought nagged me in my head.

"I'm alive!!!

"What if he doesn't remember?" I asked, voicing my thoughts out loud.

"He'll remember..." He said. His tone was convincing but the slight tremor in his hands and tenseness spoke otherwise. "He has to."

We watched in anticipation as we awaited for our thought-to-be-dead friend to finally make his grand entrance into the realm of the living.
