Chapter 32
Percy's point of view
It was the last day of camp and we were preparing to leave, Silena was going back to school since she had decided to come home. Annabeth was also there in order to take Luke home. I knew that I would have to talk to Annabeth Since I would definitely want to visit Luke during the months that we're not at camp. I hoped Annabeth would see sense and accept that I wasn't going to take her back.
I knew that all the feelings I once had for her were gone and I hoped she would accept that and move on. I walked over to Annabeth and I started talking to her, silently hoping that she would use that supposedly so smart brain of hers and realize we were over long ago. Thankfully it seemed like she had considered our situation and realised that there was no point in continuing to nag me.
Not only that but it would be best for Luke if we were on decent terms rather than constantly arguing. I was pretty sure she had given up her crusade to win me back but I was still slightly hesitant to tell her where Silena and I lived. It was because I really didn't want to have her knocking on our door trying to convince me to take her back if she hadn't actually seen sense. Somewhat reluctantly I did tell her but I did it hoping I wasn't wrong about her.
I hadn't seen Ares since he found out about my relationship with Aphrodite, but I was still pretty sure that I would see him sooner or later. I figured that when he did show up he would probably be pissed since he seemed to want Aphrodite to himself even if he didn't really love her. I knew I would try and avoid a fight if I could, but if I had to I would face him.
It's not like I hadn't beat him before and that was when I was twelve. Sure I won that fight mostly because of Luck and Kronos but now after all the training I'd had, and everything I'd been through over the years I was pretty sure I could handle him. After we put all our stuff in the car Silena and I headed back to the city and I knew that Annabeth and Luke were doing the same.
For the next while after that, things seemed more or less back to normal. I went to work, as usual, Silena would stay with my mom and Paul and sometimes spend time with her friends from her school. One of the main differences was that Silena was now fully aware of what she was and could defend herself if the need arose since she now carried her sword and bow with her practically everywhere she went just in case a monster decided to show up and try to hurt her.
Obviously, the mist would conceal what her weapons really were from her mortal friends or classmates. Her bow was easier to conceal since it would transform into a bracelet thanks to Aphrodite. For most of the summer, the bow had been normal and it hadn't been until one day when Aphrodite visited Silena that she had decided to modify it for her as a gift.
At first, nothing really unusual happened, and days passed as we went through a similar routine practically every day. At least now I didn't have to be so concerned about concealing everything mythological from her since she obviously knows the truth. Once school started again we were more or less back to our old routine with a few changes.
One major change was that Aphrodite visited quite often to see both of us, so that changed things somewhat. Aphrodite and I would still go out on dates and spend time together, I was pretty sure that it didn't bother Silena, and it seemed like she was just happy that I was happy, and she seemed happy to see her mother more often.
Clearly, she had accepted Aphrodite and didn't hold a grudge against her for not being there when she was younger. That was good since it meant that she was also fine with my relationship with Aphrodite, and that made things easier.
Silena's point of view
A few weeks after I started back to school I had my first encounter with a monster outside of camp. Sure when I decided to return to school I knew I would probably encounter monsters but since my training had been going pretty well I felt like I should be able to defend myself against any monsters I would encounter. Since I had started back to school I made sure that I had my sword and bow with me just in case.
One day I arrived at school to find that there was a substitute for my science class, I could tell that she seemed to take an interest in me and I had the feeling that it wasn't for a good reason. I wasn't sure what she was but even before she revealed it to me I was pretty sure she wasn't human. I was almost certain that she was just a monster that somehow managed to disguise herself in normal clothes.
I didn't notice anything odd about her appearance wise that screamed monster, but I think the mist was fooling me at first because she wasn't making a huge effort to hide what she was. If I had been paying closer attention her hair would have given it away. At first, She just looked like an older woman that for whatever reason had taken a rather large interest in me.
I wasn't an idiot though so I couldn't help but be suspicious. Sure enough she more or less just let the students do what they wanted rather than actually teaching us and then called me out into the hallway. I did what she asked with my hand already on my sword hilt if she actually was mortal she would probably just think I was carrying a purse or something.
I guessed that the other students probably thought I had gotten into trouble or something, either that or they were confused, or just plain didn't care. Afterall this "Teacher" had let them goof off and do whatever they wanted. When we were out in the hallway I finally snapped out of it and saw her for what she was but I didn't immediately remember what she was.
Before I went to camp I hadn't heard that many of the "myths" I had learned more at camp but learning it was one thing, remembering it all was another thing entirely. I realized what they were when a second one walked toward us, only this one seemed to be disguised as a janitor. "Euryale, Why did I have to be the janitor?" The second gorgon whined, clearly not pleased with her disguise.
I recalled the story I'd been told about when my dad first encountered them, perhaps they'd come after me now because they still blamed him for killing their sister Medusa, she may have been a monster but she was still important to them. I figured they probably knew that I was his daughter so they probably wanted to take me away from him as payback. Obviously, if that was the case I wasn't going to let them do it.
When the gorgon complained, the one that was called euryale replied, "We couldn't both be teachers Stheno,"
Iit was pretty obvious that Euryale wasn't pleased with Stheno but clearly sshe had more important things to deal with and I guessed that one of those things was probably me. Sure enough after speaking to Sheno Euryale turned her attention to me and Stheno followed suit. She said, "We know who you are girl, we tried to kill your father but he managed to get the better of us, when we heard of you we decided killing you would be even better,"
I didn't say anything since she'd more or less confirmed what I already suspected. I unsheathed my sword just in time since after she finished her statement they both came at me. The hall was empty for now except for us but I knew it wouldn't stay that way so I hoped to get this over with fairly quickly, I backed up trying to avoid their attacks, I knew they had wings but they wouldn't be able to use them in the confines of the hallway.
That was one advantage for me anyway, but still it wasn't much of one and I knew it wasn't gong to be an easy fight, but then again if I had to I still had my charmspeak. I managed to avoid their atacks at first until I decided that charmspeak would probably make it a lot easier. Especially since two against one doesn't have good odds unless you're one of the two, especially when you don't have a lot of experience.
When I came to that conclusion I put my charmspeak to use before they got the chance to attack again. I said, "Leave me alone," in a rather commanding tone. It seemed to work on Stheno, the one that seemed to be the less smart out of the two since she nodded and started to back away. Euryale on the other hand just looked more annoyed. She said, "Stheno you Idiot, She's charmspeaking you!"
Before Stheno could come to her senses I sliced my sword through her causing her to be reduced to a pile of gold dust on the floor. Now though Euryale was extremely annoyed and didn't even bother speaking before attacking me again. For a short time all I could manage to do was give her some minor wounds and avid her claws, but eventually I got a lucky hit and cut one of her hands off.
After that it was easier and I finally managed to kill her leaving her in the same state as her sister. She had managed to claw me in a couple of places but they weren't serious cuts so I would be fine. It seemed that some of the other classes had heard some of what was going on even if it was kind of muffled by their closed doors.
A teacher from one of the other nearby classrooms opened his door and looked out, I pretended that I was going to the bathroom so when he didn't seem to see anything unusual he looked slightly confused and went back to his class. I'm sure the class I had been in had heard some of it even if it was muffled but I guess most of them just didn't care.
Another thing dad made sure I had with me was Ambrosia just in case something did happen. I took a small bite since I knew that my injuries were minor, not to mention that I knew I couldn't eat too much or it could kill me. I went back into the classroom and did my best to hide my injuries while the other kids gave me confused looks. They seemed even more confused when the "Teacher" didn't return as well.
I knew that when the time came it wouldn't take long for my grandmother and my dad to notice my injuries and I knew they'd immediately be concerned and ask what happened. Obviously, I would be fine since I'd managed to defeat the two gorgons, but I knew that wouldn't stop them from being concerned about me. I guess they knew that something was probably bound to happen to me sooner or later, after all, I was the granddaughter of Poseidon and a daughter of Aphrodite. I would probably attract a fair amount of monster attention even though I seemed to have been fairly lucky up until that day. I'd sheathed my sword once again after I finally killed Euryale so all I got when I reentered the classroom were a lot of confused looks. I sat back down beside my friend Natalie, and since the teacher was obviously absent she asked me about what had happened.
I didn't tell her much since as far as I knew she was a mortal, I just said that the teacher and I had spoken for a bit before she just left. I think Natalie might have been slightly suspicious of me but she still replied, "That's weird,"
I agreed, knowing that would have been weird but what had really happened was even weirder. As I expected, my grandparents and my dad were concerned when they realized I'd been attacked but they didn't go into crazily overprotective mode. I guess they had already resigned themselves to the fact that I would have to face monsters on my own and there wasn't much they could do about it.
A/N Well, that's the new chapter, I wasn't sure if I'd get it posted tonight since my internet has been acting weird.
