Return of the Guardian?
I apologize for the wait, but here is the next chapter. Oh, almost forgot, the winner of my little guessing game. While it wasn't exactly what I was looking for, the winner is @celbel_17 so congradulation. Your reward: an OC in any of my stories. PM me with the details. I might do more of these contests in the future. Enjoy this chapter.
POV: Artemis
Location: Mount Olympus
"Gods, I hate elevator music." Percy mutters as he steps out of the elevator.
I smile softly, "Come now. That is the least important part of today. You're going to become a Guardian again."
We begin to walk through the city of Olympus. Nymphs, satyrs and minors look at the two of us, some curious, others fearful. I'm not sure where the fear came from.
"I know." He replies, smiling, "It's just that everytime I hear that music, I picture Apollo in bright neon bell-bottom pants and sporting an afro."
As hard as I try, the image appears in my head and my face morphs into one of disgust, "You found it absolutely necessary to mention that?"
"Yes." My Guardian smirks.
"This time has truly changed you." I shake my head.
"Oh, don't worry," His smile disappears, "I'm still the person I was when I died. I've just learned to adapt another mask."
"Artemis!" A voice sounds out from to my left, "It's been a while since I've seen you around. How are you beautiful?"
"Eros." I say, cursing under my breath, "Shouldn't you be out destroying someone's life?"
"Come on!" He laughs, "It's fun. You know what else is fun?" He adds the last part on, trying to act seductive. Unfortuntely, he's the god of sexual desire, so it works a little, but not nearly enough to be appealing.
Suddenly, a glowing bronze sword blade appears under the winged god's chin, rrsting on his throat, "I would back off, if I were you." A voice growls, "And don't think I didn't notice your hand creeping for an arrow."
Percy, no he's Perseus right now, has Anaklusmos out and pinned to the love god's throat. His irises, normally a soft sea-green had turned as dark as the sea floor and his entire body radiated barely controlled rage.
"Well Artemis, it seems you've finally found a man." Eros smirks, then directs his voice towards Perseus, "So who are you kid. You have no idea what you're doing."
"It seems that you've gotten bolder since I haven't been around to police you." My Guardian's voice is an ocean of calm, "I think you have forgotten who you are dealing with."
"What are you talking abo-" Eros looks at Percy, taking in the cloak and face, causing his eyes to widen, "You!"
"Me." Perseus smirks, "Now walk or fly away right now, before you try to do it with one less head."
"Ok Jackson." Eros raises his hands in defense, "I'm going, I'm going." He backs up slowly.
Perseus keeps his sword pointed in the direction of the irate god of love, and stands between him and I.
"Oh, Artemis." Eros calls back, "If you every get bored of your little Guardian, you know where to find me." He winks, then yelps and ducks as an arrow barely flies over his head.
Eros turns and runs away. Perseus looks at me, taking in the bow in my hand and missing arrow from my quiver. Doing nothing more than raising a single eyebrow, he caps Anaklusmos.
"We should get going." He says emotionlessly, and begins to walk towards the throne room.
I hurry to catch up to him, "Percy, wait up!"
He stops and looks at me, "Yes, M'Lady?"
I glare at him, "Don't do that. You know how much I dislike it when you call me that."
"Which is exactly why I do it Arty." He smirks.
"I wanted to thank you. For getting Eros to leave me alone. He's been getting more irritating every century."
Percy shrugs, "He's probably out there cursing my love life again, but whatever. I am bound by my oath as a Guardian. I can't have him harming you."
I feel a slight sinking feeling in my stomach. In his past life, Percy was cursed by Eros so that it would be impossible for him to find love in his life. With his rebirth, Percy is technically in a new life, giving him another chance. Eros is spiteful though, so he might curse Percy again. I would not want that. I mean for Percy. He deserves to be happy. Then the last part of his comment sinks in.
"Are you saying I'm weak?" I demand.
"No, of course not." He replies smoothly, and continues walking, "But he is a love god, and they do tend to have certain...abilities."
We fall into a slightly uncofortable silence until we reach the throne room doors. I glance qickly over at Percy, who is just staring at the doors.
"It's time." I place a hand on his shoulder.
"I'll finally have my old life again." His voice is barely a whisper.
I remove my hand from his shoulder and push the doors open. To my surprise, the entire council is gathered together. All twelve of us.
Percy eyes the council, "I wasn't aware there was going to be an audience."
I shove him slightly and he walks to the center of the room. I walk over to my throne, growing to my full height of fifteen feet and sit down.
"Perseus Jackson." Zeus thunders, "You have been summoned here to determine whether or not you are the same Perseus from five thousand years ago, who died protecting Artemis, his charge. Should you provide enough evidence, you will be granted your old position as Guardian of Artemis. If the council does not deem your evidence to be acceptable, then the events of today will be removed from your memory."
Percy nods in agreement.
"Produce your evidence." Athena says.
"Sheena." Percy points at Dionysus, who blinks, but is somewhat unsurprised.
Alexandra." Apollo smiles softly and drifts into the world of memories.
"Wiiliam." Hermes drops his cadeuceus, which is currently in the form of a cell phone.
"Achilles." Ares grunts and nods his head.
"Paulina." Hephestus' leg squeks like an old car as he jumps slightly in surprise.
"Rowan." Poseidon, who was already staring at his son, widens his eyes even more.
"Randi." Zeus blinks in surprise and nods.
"Quinn." At this point, most of the remaining goddesses had figured out that he was going to get every single one correct, so Hera is unsurprised.
"Zarah." Demeter blinks back obvious tears.
"Theseus." Athena nods silently.
"Xander." Aphrodite bursts out crying.
"Me." I don't do anything.
"Eliza for Hestia, and Bianca for Hades." Neither of those two are present in the room, but the hearth flares up and the shadows thicken.
The entire council stares at Percy in shock. Some have a faraway look in their eyes. I notice a few silent tears.
"Well...um..." Zeus seems to be at a loss for words, as does the entire council, "All in favor of reinstating Perseus as Guardian of Artemis?"
Every hand goes up.
"It is decided." Zeus says, "Perseus, come here."
I cannot help the overwhelming feeling of happiness that flows through me. I would have my partner back again. He's been by my side since we were both fifteen years old, and those fifteen are negligible compared to the three thousand years we were together.
You're thinking too loud again. Aphrodite's voice rebounds throughout my head. I glare at her, not deeming her worthy of a response. I fold my arms and return my attention to the ceremony. Percy is kneeling in front of Zeus, head bowed.
"To regain your position as Guardian, you must recite your oath." Zeus says, "Do you recall it?" The last part was added on and I detected a sense of uncertainty in my father's voice.
Percy nods, and I hear at least three sighs of relief.
"Please recite it." Zeus orders, politely.
Percy takes a deep breath, "I, Perseus Jackson, swear to honor the code of the Guardians. To protect the gods. To ensure the future of Olympus.
I swear to protect my assigned Olympian, no matter the situation, even if it means my own death.
I swear to always act honorably. I will never take any action which my Charge would disapprove of. I swear my loyalty to my Charge.
I swear to provide mental support to my charge, providing advice and support in trying times.
On this Oath, I swear my life, my soul, and my blade."
It hits me at this moment that I have never actually heard the Guardians' Oath. It's nice. A little extreme, but it des get the point across. The Guardians work for and to protect the gods.
"Welcome back into the Guardians, my son." Poseidon smiles at Percy.
"Sweet!" Hermes suddenly says, "Does this mean that we're all getting Guardians again?"
"No." Zeus replies firmly, "At least, not yet." He rescinds slightly.
"Aww." My annoying brother whines, "Why does Arty get special treatment?"
"Don't call me Arty." My bow appears in my hands and Apollo jumps behind his throne.
"Percy! Help!" He calls out.
"I'm sorry, Lord Apollo." My Guardian smirks, "But as Artemis' Guardian, I support her actions. I may not approve, but I will not act against her."
"Come on cuz!"
I smile softly at Percy, then turn to my twin, "I'll let you off the hook; I'm in a good mood right now."
POV: Percy Jackson
Location: Olympian Throne Room
"Is there anything else that needs to be discussed?" Zeus asks. When no one responds, he continues, "This council is dismissed."
Instead of everyone teleporting out, every god and goddess shrinks down to human size and starts walking over to me. The first to reach me is my father.
Poseidon wraps me in a god-sized hug, "It's really you." The whispers, "And you're not the child of the prophesy."
"That's right dad." I manage to say, "Now can you let me go. Even Tyson's hugs don't hurt this much."
Poseidon let's me go and smiles sheepishly, "It's good to know that you're back son."
"Thanks, and I promise to stick around for a long time."
"You'd better." He mutters, then is shoved aside by Apollo and Hermes.
"Percy." Hermes slaps me on the back, "I can't believe that the little dude I sent out to help Luke was actually the greatest Guardian to ever live."
"I wasn't that good." I mutter.
"Come on!" The messenger god replies, shocked, "What makes you say that?"
"I died."
Apollo waves his hand, "That's all in the past now. If you need anything, don't hesitate to let us know."
"Actually," An idea pops into my head, "There is a certain winged love god who has already managed to get on my bad side...again. Do you two mind messing with him a little?"
"You mean Eros?" Apollo asks, "He's been hitting on my baby sis too much. I think I'll like messing with him."
"Count me in" Hermes adds.
"Thanks guys." I say as they teleport out, probably to plan mayhem.
"Perseus."
"Queen Hera, Lady Demeter." I acknowledge the two elder Olympian goddesses.
"Stay strong Guardian." Hera says, "You may be needed more than you believe in the coming months."
I nod and the two sister drift over to my father and begin conversing.
"Percy! My baby!" I'm suffocated by a giant pink dress.
"Hello Aphrodite." I manage to get out.
She begins to bable wildly, and I tune her out, then she whispers something in my ear.
"Hold on to her Percy. Not many men catch her eye."
Huh?
The love goddess disengaged her hug and winks at me, "Now I'm going to go yell at Eros about that curse again. Bye bye!" She teleportation out.
"You owe me a rematch punk." A certain war god glares at me.
I look down at my imaginary watch, "I'm sorry Lord Ares, but that'll have to wait for another time."
"So, you remembered my Guardian, eh?" I turn to see Hephestus standing behind me.
I nod, "Of course I did. Paulina was a very good friend of mine, and very few people could match her swordplay."
Athena is the next to approach me. At first she doesn't say anything and just holds her hands out. I shake it.
"I don't approve of many of Poseidon's children." She says, "But you are alright."
I nod, "Thank you, Lady Athena."
She teleports out and Zeus steps forward, "Welcome back into the Guardians, Perseus." He shakes my hand.
"It is an honor, Lord Zeus. And thank you." I reply.
"Look after my daughter." He whispers, "She gets into more trouble than any other god."
"Of course Lord Zeus." I nod.
He nods in return and walks over to his wife, Demeter, and Poseidon. I feel a tap on my shoulder.
"Are you done talking with your 'fans?'" Artemis smirks at me.
"Of course, Lady Artemis." I reply.
"Then let's go." She grabs my hand, and we teleport away.
There we go, it's done, oh and @celbel_17, if you want to be one of the Guardians, I can change the names around.
~Keep being awesome people.
