James Potter and the Kids of Olympus: Christmas Edition

So even though the first installment of James Potter and the Kids of Olympus was fifteen thousand words there was a lot I didn't get in there that I kinda wanted to.

So in honor of Christmas, or whatever you celebrate, I made a holiday special.

And also to shoutout @thatgirlariadne for making my awesome new cover.

Thanks for that.

Thanks to everyone who reads my stories.

Happy Holidays.

This is your present.

"No," Percy whined, "I don't wanna!"

"It's just to exchange presents and such. It won't even take that long, I swear."

"Will there be blue cake?"

"I don't believe so."

"Then noooo!"

"Percy," Harry sighed, "It's just one trip to Europe to celebrate Christmas. Not even on Christmas Day. Our kids want to see each other. Ever since Zoe and Ace and James graduated no one's been seeing much of anyone anymore."

That was true, at least. One year after their graduation Zoe had passed the DSTOMP with flying colors and enrolled into the University of New Rome in California, Ace was on the other side of the state trying to master the Sopwith Camels with Dr. Chase, and of course the wizards were still in Scotland.

"Do you even know how much last minute plane tickets cost, Potter?" Percy moaned, "I mean I know my kids will all go to college free, and I know the gods funded our house and Annabeth's running her own firm and stuff but that kind of money for one trip is ridiculous!"

Harry desperately wanted to reach through the Iris Message and strangle him, but restrained himself. Because accidentally cutting off the connection would stop him from screaming at the stupid pile of kelp.

"Dude!" He yelled. "You're a demigod and a wizard. You've got a broom. You've got Blackjack. You've got vapor and shadow travel and Apparating! Hades, you could probably get the gods to ship you here via Hermes Express. You've literally got nothing to lose."

"But-"

"No buts, Jackson," Harry scolded, "I want our families together for the holidays."

Percy's eyes lit up, frightening Harry so badly he wondered what he possibly could have said to inspire the next stupid idea the other man had.

"Then why don't you come to Camp Half Blood?" Percy suggested happily. "You get presents and I get blue food and everyone can reconnect and be happy and you guys can see Stella - wow that girl's like twenty four now, it's ridiculous - and it's totally a win win!"

"But Perseus!" Harry mocked, "Do you know how many Galleons I'm gonna blow on some stupid trip-"

Percy cut him off. "If you guys aren't here by next week I'm telling Mrs. Weasley you cursed in front of the kids again."

"Which kind of curse?"

"Magical and Profanity."

"Which Mrs. Weasley?"

"All of them."

"Kids! Pack your bags, we're going to Camp Half Blood!"

_______________

James just needed to get away.

He didn't care to where. Anywhere was fine, really. His Uncle Percy was always telling him how Uncle Nico swore China was wonderful this time of year.

Followed closely by said child of Hades getting angry and actually leaving him in China, but Percy found his way back eventually so it was all cool.

(Annabeth even asked if Nico would do it again)

(He tried)

Anyways, he was looking forward to seeing everyone. He was bringing Alice, Rose was bringing Scorpius, and since they haven't all been in one place since last year, it would be nice to catch up.

Also jobs are hard.

James was working in Muggle Relations now at the Ministry of Magic, and even though it was a cushy job that paid well and required little to no effort, since most of the world didn't even know that they existed, he desperately needed this vacation.

Muggles were so annoying.

There was literally no reason for them to be the way they were.

If he had a Knut for every time one of them asked him to point his wand at them and say Abra Kadabra he would have enough money to pay his way out of Azkaban for using the next closest spell in actual magic

But Grandpa Weasley said he wasn't allowed to kill the innocent and brainless.

What a spoilsport, honestly.

So yes, he was looking forward to America. If he was lucky, he would get claimed by one of the gods because he knew there was no way his mom had settled for his dad and he could stay there and never go back to his stupid job ever again.

But one could only dream.

Getting a head start on his family, he Apparated to Thalia's Tree.

Only to be immediately snapped at by a cranky dragon.

"Peleus!" He yelped, "It's me! I'm sorry for waking you up!"

Camp Half Blood's guard refused to stop his attempt to eat James's leg off. Both of his hands were occupied with keeping Peleus's jaws from clamping down on him, so he couldn't reach his wand.

A shrill whistle pierced the air. "Peleus! It's okay, he's a friend!"

The voice paused. "A bad friend, but still a friend."

"Zoe." James had to sigh in relief, "Help?"

"Actually, I think I'll let him chew off a finger first. Poor guy barely gets fed."

A total lie, and both of them knew it. Any monsters and sometimes stray annoying wizards made up Peleus's diet.

"Zo!"

"Fine. Let him go, Pel."

And just when he thought the threat was over, Zoe punched him in the arm the only way she knew how.

Hard.

"You deserved it," She scowled, "Haven't even IM'ed for months."

"I've been busy!"

"I'm a college student who's taking seven courses this semester and have drank so much coffee that's practically what my blood's made up of at this point and even I have time to call my parents and bother Ace. Don't give me that garbage."

James smiled. "It's good to be back, Zo."

"Where's the rest of the family?" She asked.

"Got a head start on them. Though, if I knew I was gonna be eaten by a dragon, I woulda brought Al to sacrifice."

There was a low growling at the word sacrifice.

"You should come into camp before Peleus starts craving wizards."

"Agreed."

_______________

Camp Half Blood in the winter time could only be described as paradise.

The Hephaestus Cabin had set up a huge, glowing Christmas Tree in the center of the cabins.

(They couldn't decorate Thalia's Tree because it turns into a beacon since it's on the edge of Camp)

(Also Thalia didn't approve)

(In retaliation they usually decorate her)

Zeus had allowed a flurry of snow into camp as well, so there were happy screaming kids and a snowball to James's face.

Yes, you heard correct.

A snowball to James's face.

"J-Man!"

Oh no.

An arm was slung around his neck and forcing him down into a headlock, making James regret all of his life choices.

"Dude," Ace moaned, "I've been spending all my time with Uncle Freddy, and let me tell you not fun."

"Hi, Ace."

"C'mon, show some compassion for your dear dying best friend. He keeps trying to teach me about World War I in between not crashing his beloved airplane. I think he loves that thing more than his wife."

James opened his mouth to say something, but Ace cut him off.

"Oh, this is so great. You came just in time for Auntie Thalia's birthday. Her cake's got like a bazillion candles on it now, but that's nothing next to Chiron's a couple months ago. Wow is that horse old. But don't say that to his face, he'll turn your face into a pincushion."

James prepared himself for when Ace took a breath to say a proper sentence but before he could Zoe was speaking too.

"You better be staying for Christmas, too," she warned him. "We're gonna ambush Fairy Godmother Thals in the woods during the Holiday Capture the Flag with lights and ornaments."

"Yeah!" Ace added, "And the best part is when she tries to attack us with lightning to get us to back off and that just makes the lights turn on!"

"So-"

"Guys!" He interrupted, finally fed up, "Where's everyone else? You're not the only ones I needa go say hi to."

They pulled matching pouts. "We're not the only people in the world to you?"

James raised a single unimpressed eyebrow and their expressions cracked.

"They're in the Big House," Zoe finally relented, "We're doing presents in a couple hours and your folks still haven't gotten here, so you might wanna check up on that."

"Thanks, Zo, you're the best."

She sniffed. "Am I? Or is that just what you say to everyone?"

"And what about me?" Ace cried. "I'm calling favoritism."

"Why are you two the way you are?"

_______________

The Big House was not big enough for all of the demigod families.

It's kind of a good thing, actually, seeing as a couple decades ago demigods never lived long enough to get out of the wretched teenage years and now the camp was barely big enough for all the legacies.

"Hey, James," Hunter grinned, bouncing up to him. He peeked around him shyly. "...Where's Albus?"

James's eyebrow shot up. Interesting.

"He's coming later. You know, with Rose and Lily and Hugo and, ahem, the rest of the family."

He snickered as Ace's kid brother blushed to the roots of his blonde hair and deflated just a little, running off to the other side of the room.

"Daddy!" Came a shrill voice, "You can't keep eating so much candy it's not good for you."

James wandered towards the source of the yelling.

"Uncle Nico," he gaped, "H-Happy Holidays."

The son of Hades, the Ghost King, the Ambassador of Camp Jupiter and Camp Half Blood and wielder of the Stygian Iron blade was beaming.

It was kind of unnerving to be honest.

There was a girl who couldn't have been more than eight clambering onto his lap and ripping a candy cane out of his mouth.

"Hi!" She grinned up at him, "I'm Bianca Solace-Di Angelo and this is my dad who's eating too much sugar!"

She huffed the last part to her unabashed father.

James swallowed thickly, a bit put off by her striking resemblance to her father. "I'm James. James Potter."

"What's going on here?"

Will came up behind his husband and placed a kiss on his daughter's forehead.

"Papa!" She screeched, "Tell Daddy to stop eating so many candy canes!"

"Neeks!" Will chided jokingly, "Bianca told you to stop eating candy."

James couldn't help feeling awkward. Nico Di Angelo was smiling and stuffing his face with sugar, his daughter was acting more like his mother and Will Solace was just laughing at the whole thing.

It was strange.

"I-" he choked on his own words, motioning to some vague area that was anywhere but there. "I think my family just walked in, I'm going to go say hi. Yeah."

Then he bolted.

_______________

"I don't understand!" Lily was complaining as James approached. "I'm in my fourth year and you forced me home from Camp for the holidays just to bring me back to Camp. What's your problem?"

Harry rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "Take it up with Uncle Percy. This was his idea!"

"Albus," James grinned before Lily could eat their father alive, "A certain someone's looking for you."

"Dude, if it's the Stoll Cousins again, tell 'em to buzz off. I've lost too much money to them already."

"It's Hunter."

"Oh," Al sighed, visibly relaxing, "I'll find him in a minute. Where do I put these presents?"

James pointed to the Christmas Tree in the corner of the room, frowning.

As Albus strode off, Lily groaned. "Still doesn't know Hunt's got a crush on him?"

"Nope."

"And you want them together now that you've pulled your dense head out of your butt and noticed, too?"

"Ye- Wait. You knew?!? How long's this been going on?"

"Couple years ago, probably, when Al was here for Fourth Year."

"Poor kid."

"Yup. There's not a single smart person in this family, I swear. Like, Zoe, Rose, now Albus. At least you knew when a girl liked you, being the big man on campus and all, but this bunch of idiots have got our work cut out for us."

"So what's the game plan, Sis?"

"Get Al and Hunt together before the end of this trip, duh."

James thought for a second. "I feel like it's wrong to boat these two together when we don't even know if Albus swings that way."

Lily knew her brother better than that.

"But?" She prompted.

"But I really want Hunter to be my real little brother."

The youngest Potter shook her head.

"And you wonder why Al likes me better than you."

_______________

"A little to the right."

Crash!

"Your other right, Percy!"

"Sorry!"

Annabeth buried her face into her hands. "Why did I marry you, again?"

Percy winked down at her from his place on the step ladder. "Cuz you love me."

She shook her head at him, smiling in spite of herself. "Okay, Seaweed Brain. Now get down here, clean up the vase you smashed, and we'll try to get the light hanging right this time."

"Whatever you say, Wise Girl."

Piper stared over the rim of her cup at them, taking a long swig of eggnog. "How is it that those crazy kids are well into their thirties and still have enough adorableness to blow up the Eastern Seaboard?"

Jason only shrugged. "How is it that even though he's married and approaching his forties Percy's still got a fan club in the Aphrodite Cabin? We don't ask these kinds of questions, Pipes."

"Seriously, though, it's ridiculous. They've been together twenty years and their biggest fights to date were just Percy being stupid and Annabeth being so stubborn that you could almost call her stupid but don't because then she'll smite you."

"Hey, we're cuter then them," Jason assured her, "You're the hottest middle aged woman I know and we've got two great kids and our biggest fight was only me being stupid so that's at least twice as much better as them."

Crash!

"Jason!" Annabeth yelled, "Get over here and teach this absolute pile of oyster brains his right from his left!"

Jason kissed the top of his wife's head. "Duty calls. Catch you later."

Piper watched him go with a chuckle.

"What?" Hazel asked, walking up with one of the twins holding on to each hand, "What's so funny?"

"Remember on the Argo II when Jason and Percy both thought they were the leader and tried to sit in Annabeth's chair?"

"I thought they were gonna fight for it."

"Yeah, well, Annie's pretty much got them both wrapped around her finger."

"I know that snicker, though, Piper. What else?"

Piper shook her head in her husband's direction, her expression saying Can you believe this fool?

"Jason thinks we're cuter than Percabeth in cuddle season."

_______________

"Presents!"

"Alright!"

"Me first!"

"Hands off, Milo!"

"But Emmmm!"

Chiron picked up the first gift from under the tree. "Bianca."

The girl leaped up from her place in Will's lap and bounced over to him.

"Who's it from, Bee?" Silena asked, leaning forward.

"Doesn't say," she grinned, "Must be from Santa Claus!"

One look at the shiny blue wrapping paper and the blue ribbon and the blue name tag told everyone else everything they needed to know about the true sender. But as long as Nico kept silently sharpening his sword in the corner of the room, they would make sure his princess believed in the wonders of Christmas.

"Wow! Look at this, Papa! The Aegyptus Evolution Mythomagic expansion pack. I heard that Horus has ten thousand attack power if he's fighting another god type, isn't that awesome?"

The next round of presents were for all the demigod legacies from Ron.

"I'm pretty proud of myself," Ron grinned, "It was pretty hard to find one of them, let alone fifteen, but totally worth it."

James stared at the shape of the box, unimpressed. "What is your problem, Uncle Ron?"

"I'm simply too talented and too handsome and too famous for words and I'm sorry for that, Nephew, I really am."

"Aunt 'Mione?"

"Yes, James?"

"Did you ever look into the mental health specialist the Hat said it had for Uncle Percy?"

"Of course I did. Your Uncle Percy has issues."

"And?"

"They wouldn't take Ron. Something about a sudden influx of idiots being bad for business."

"Ah."

Zoe ripped open her package first.

"Uh, is this my dad?"

"Yep," Ron beamed, "And a chocolate frog!"

Card Percy waved at them, taking a bite out of a blue cookie and grinning.

"Look on the back," Emily pointed out, "Perseus 'Percy' Jackson is the three time Savior of Olympus and Grandson of Voldemort. Though ending his first and only year at Hogwarts near the bottom of his class, he was proven to be talented at magic and invented his own version of the Felix Felicis potion. Greatest Accomplishment..." she had to squint, "Marrying Annabeth Chase."

Charlie snorted in his effort to contain his laughter. "Got That right, huh, dad?"

Percy slung his arm around said greatest accomplishment and blushed.

"Sure did, kid."

_______________

"The plan is in motion, I repeat, the plan is in motion!"

"James, we're all standing next to you."

"I know, but it's cooler if we talk like this."

"All we're doing is the mistletoe trick."

"But-"

"Dude," Emerald sighed, "Maybe next time leave this to the pros."

"Three..."

"Two..."

"One..."

"Now!"

With everyone in position, Silena and Hugo shoved Albus and Hunter together under a doorway, where Emily was stationed as a hummingbird with mistletoe.

Jason wolf whistled. "Get him, son!"

"Kiss!" Leo yelled. "Kiss!"

"It's tradition," Lily whispered to her brother, "You guys kinda have to."

"Not if you don't want to," Hunter stammered, losing control of his usually Charmspeak slicked voice, "I mean, I want to, but we don't have to and, well, it's okay if you just want to be friends and such even though I kinda want m-"

James was seething.

Albus cut the boy off with something, and he would never get to know what it was because his loving girlfriend pulled him away at the last minute.

"Alice!" James whined, "I wanted to see them kiss!"

"Wouldn't you much rather be getting some alone time with me?"

"But this could be Al's first and I'm missing it!" James took her by the shoulders and shook her, "Do you not understand that this is a matter of life and death, woman?!?"

"You're a dork, and I love you for it, James," Alice scolded, "But calm yourself. Your baby brother kissed your best friend's baby brother and everyone lived happily ever after and I just want to snag you for myself for a little. Is that alright?"

James breathed in deeply. "Of course it is, Ally. C'mere."

They sat down on the porch of the Big House, watching the snow fall.

"We've been dating for a year and a half now. How does it feel?"

"Wonderful," James sighed adoringly. "What's more wonderful is being able to do this."

He leaned down and pecked her lips.

"Happy New Year, Alice."

"James."

"Oh, right. Merry-"

"Potter."

He coughed awkwardly. "Good Winter Solstice-"

"Nope, that was yesterday. The twenty first this year."

"Yes, of course."

James wrapped his arms around her, pulling her to him.

"Happy Aunt Thalia's Birthday, then, love."

"That's more like it."
