Chapter 19: Mark, My Not Boyfriend

"What?" I exclaimed. Working with monsters? Did Luke even hear himself?

"Where are we?" I pestered. "What is this? A joke? It's not funny! Explain what's going on!"

"We're on the Andromeda...Tera, we're waiting to serve Kronos when he rises. This is our headquarters..." he look nervous that he had to answer these question. All I could do was stare as my jaw dropped to the floor.

"You're working with Kronos?" I questioned.

"No. We are."

"We? Me too? Why?" I fumbled.

"The gods killed your mother. Your only family. That's why. We fight against the gods to avenge people like your mom, because the gods don't give a pegasus's dung about us. Poseidon never helped you after your mom died, and you were only six! We've got to overthrow our parents. Remember?"

"Zeus killed my mother..." I mumbled without thinking. "Got to overthrow him." I looked down.

"Tera, I think you should come with me to my room for a bit. I think we need to talk in private."

I was a bit antsy about going with him, but as soon as he grabbed my hand and started leading me there, I felt safer with him than I had with the sword.

He led me past a few monsters on deck and back down the flight of stairs in front of the buffet table. He produced a key from his pocket, which he then used to unlock one of the doors.

My first thought upon entering his room was; his is bigger than mine. He had more than one light source, actual desks and drawers, and some chests of his own. His bed was a double bed, mine was a small cot. His walls even seemed freshly painted! I wondered how a boy could keep his room so clean.

I took a seat on his really comfy bed, and looked up at his worried expression.

"Do you, uh, remember why you're like this?" Luke asked. Pretty sure I was just as confused as Luke was, but I took a stab in the dark.

"There are two genders. Male, and Female. I, like many others, am female, meaning I appear different on the outside then males do, I also do not have a--"

"Stop. Ter-Ter, I'm serious. Do you know why you woke up and you were confused?"

"Okay, I'd love to try and answer your questions I have no idea how to answer, but I really want to know why you're calling me Ter-Ter." I pestered. I was already confused as Hades, but that didn't mean I couldn't ask the small questions. (Pronounced: Tear-Tear, like Bear Bear)

"That's what I always call you. You know, because we have a brother-sister bond?" He put a hand against his scar and sighed. "Never mind. Let me explain."

"Please do."

"If you stopped talking, I could."

"Well, you're my bonded-older-brother. Don't you have the power to make me stop talking?" He sighed another exasperated sigh, and took a seat beside me. Folding his hands together on his lap, he stared off into space as he continued.

"You came to the Titan side as soon as we met you, even though everyone thought you were loyal to Camp Half Blood-" he sneered at the name "-and the gods. How did they react? Poseidon finally came and visited his only daughter. But he didn't try reasoning with you to get back onto his side, since, after all, as soon as you turn sixteen you'll have the power we need to overthrow him and the rest of the gods. No, instead he struck you in the head with his trident.

"The first few months were brutal. You would wake up every day not remembering why you were here and working with monsters. After some treatment with our best demigods, it started to stop. Basically, this doesn't happen as often anymore. Usually once every few months. But it's unpredictable."

I sat in silence and contemplated that.

"How long--"

"Three years ago." He said remorsefully. "You were only twelve."

"And I'm fifteen now?" I added.

"Sixteen in two weeks. Then it's time, Tera. We will strike on the gods, and they will fall!"

~

I took that all back to my room. There was a twinge in my gut telling me he was right, that the gods's turn to rule was over and now it was our time! But my mind just couldn't wrap around that.

I understood now why I was in the bowels of the ship. It was because I felt closer to water, and if there were an emergency I could help keep the boat steadier from down here. My room was small and unclustered because I liked to think a lot while sitting on the bed - like I was doing right now - without any distractions. I was ADHD, I got distracted easily.

Holding the pillow over my crossed legs and I gently bobbed up and down on my bed both helped me to relax, and remember more.

I very faintly had the memory of Poseidon harming me, which I didn't frankly want to see but was good to remember as a reason to fight harder for the side against the gods.

I remembered my few years at camp, where I had a younger half-brother by one year. Percy. He was a fool not to join our side, but there was no leverage we could use against him. Besides, all I had towards him was hate and jealousy.

Poseidon, the stupid god, did nothing but spend time chatting with Percy, and he already had a parent looking out for him. Stupid 'dads' always favouring sons. It was his mistake, and Zeus's, that I was against them in the first place. Give me a little love and maybe the demigod who could choose to save or destroy Olympus wouldn't be choosing to destroy it.

But there was also a small sliver of feeling in my soul telling me we had no real chance of winning. Me on this team or not, Percy was going to fight until the end.

I dismissed the thought.

~

A while of thinking later, someone knocked on my door. I heard Boaris snort from down the hall. I pulled the door open.

A tall boy with ginger hair walked in holding a tray of food in both hands. He was skinny, but looked like he could easily fend off four alligators if he had to. He had freckles over his pale-skinned nose, and stunning grey eyes. He was wearing black jeans and a white muscle shirt. Although grey eyes and ginger hair may not sound like a good combo, he really pulled it off.

He put the tray on my floating side-table.

"How you feeling?" He asked. His voice was sweet, not too deep, but definitely not too high.

"I'm okay," I admitted. I was still concerned about all these new un-familiar faces that I sometimes knew and sometimes didn't, but I could somehow tell this one was very close.

"Do you remember me?"

I shook my head. "I'm sorry, I don't. Who are you?"

He frowned, "I'm Mark. Your boyfriend for two months now."

This time, I frowned. Not only did I have a very good-looking boyfriend I forgot about, but I also had said boyfriend while I was fifteen. I was pretty sure, knowing myself, that that was something I would never do. I know demigods had short lives, but I definitely wanted to wait until I was seventeen to start dating. Besides, there was Luke...

Mark closed the door behind him. "That's a lie." He whispered. "You know it is. Snap out of it, we've got to call the others."

"Excuse me?" I asked, still using my normal voice. Mark was more confusing than my whole predicament now. Call the others. Ha! They were right outside my door.

"Please be quiet Tera. Nobody can know we're doing this, okay?"

"Doing what?" I question harshly. He looked at me startled.

"You mean you seriously...? Oh, gods." He pulled a drachma out of his pocket. "Remember? Calling camp? Giving them updates? Nobody told me about this?!"

I assumed he was referring to the fact that I'd woken up today completely different. Maybe he joined us at a time when it wasn't happening often. But there it is, joined us. So why was he holding a drachma to offer to a goddess, the same goddess on the side of the people we were trying to oppose. He was also talking about calling camp. He obviously meant camp half blood, but why?

"Can you stop talking and explain yourself?" I questioned almost angrily.

He looked at me and then scanned the room. "Gods, you aren't going to help me so how in Hades do I do this?" He muttered.

And now he was talking about the gods.

Before I could shout for Boaris or someone, Mark must've gotten an idea. He took something out of his pocket. A dagger. He threw it up and it hit the ceiling. A loud groan sounded from the ship. Oh Kronos, he hit a water pipe!

Water started trickling from the ceiling, and without another second wasting, Mark threw a drachma into the water and asked Iris to call camp half blood.

The groaning stopped as an image came into view in the water. I wrapped my hands around Mark's throat.

"Are you trying to sink the boat? You're such an imbecile! Wait until I tell Luke that you're a traitor!"

"Tera!" Someone shouted from the other end of the Iris Message. It couldn't have been Mark - he was still gasping for breath. I looked away from Mark'd face and back at the water.

Percy and my old friend Annabeth were staring at me horrified. "Stop!" Percy shouted.

As if he had the ability to charm speak (which was impossible), I dropped my arms. Mark stumbled back and hit my wall, gasping for breath.

I glared daggers at Percy and Annabeth.

They looked at each other. "It's happening again." Annabeth muttered to Percy who nodded.

"What?" I demanded. "What's happening again?"

The water started making pools around my feet - not that I got wet.

"Tera listen, whatever Luke told you is a lie. You never left the loyalty of Camp or the gods. The reason you couldn't remember some stuff this morning was because of Kronos. He's hypnotized you or something."

I tilted my head as Percy spoke gibberish. What the hell? I know it was Poseidon who did this to me, not Kronos. I was working for Kronos.

"Why didn't you tell me that?" Mark whined from the corner of the room. He had gotten his breath back and was now moving his way to my side.

"Sorry Mark," Annabeth said. "We didn't think it would happen again."

"Sorry, hang on," I put both hands up in a 'slow down' motion. "What the hell is going on here? Poseidon struck me over the head with--"

"His trident." Percy finished. I scowled. "This is the third time you've told me that. Once every month. Listen, I'm sure Annabeth can explain this better."

I stared at the blonde daughter of Athena for an explanation.

"Look, three months ago the oracle said that the prophesied demigod had to learn the tricks of the enemies. You were sent aboard the Princess Andromeda, to serve Kronos - but only as a cover. The first week was fine, you reported back and told us what was happening. You uncovered some Camp Half Blood spies. Then Kronos did something to you. Every month, at an unscheduled time, you wake up unsure why you're on this boat," the water was just under my ankles now, dammit.

"Luke manages to make you think you're on his side. That's why we sent Matthew and Mark. Matthew was the one we told about your memory-moments, he was the one who'd get you back on the right track. They came two months ago. Mark was just there because he wanted to help. Matthew was found out as a spy for camp, and we haven't heard from him since."

"Right," my mouth tasted stale.

"So you remember that, then?" Mark asked hopefully.

"No," I shook my head. "I didn't understand any of that. Now, please excuse me while I go tell Luke you're a traitor."

I waved my hand over the water, ending the message. Using my power over water, I did my best to make it evaporate or go back into the pipe, then I jumped up and tilted the dagger so it didn't let any water through.

"Come on." I told Mark. "Luke is probably in his room.
