Just Like Old Times

Ares' shark grin faltered as his first rifle failed, then his next. When he realised he was screwed, the god turned and booked it out of the room, Percy's bullets trailing him the whole time.

The former demigod lowered his weapon and turned to his injured girlfriend, who had freed her foot from the rubble. "Shit! Artemis, are you okay?" He asked, kneeling down to assist her. She hissed when he touched her ankle. "It's probably shattered, but go! He's defenceless!" She told him.

He looked unsure, though. "I don't wanna leave you." He said. Artemis took his hand before he could try and treat her wound. "Percy, go. I'll be fine." She promised, before pulling him into a kiss. He smiled and kissed back, not wanting to let go. Eventually they had to part, and Artemis shifted so she could treat her own wound. "Now go." She said, and Percy nodded, before running off in Ares' direction.

He entered the great hall outside the throne room that split off into many different hallways. "Ares!" He yelled in rage, and received no reply. When he heard a heavy thumping above him, Percy deduced that he must've gone upstairs, and ran off towards the nearest staircase.

The next two minutes were a blur of running down hallways and up stairways, trying to catch up with the heavy footsteps of Ares' combat boots. As he looked out an open window, Percy saw how high up he was and cursed under his breath. "Ares! Get back here!" He roared.

After bursting through one more door, Percy looked around in shock as he realised he was on the roof. It was strange up there, with the long glass sunroof along most of the throne room below.

Before he could try and study the area for Ares, he was tackled from the side, and soon found the god of war on top of him trying to choke him out. Percy struggled against the grip, and clutched Ares' wrists tightly to try and pull them off.

He saw dark spots appearing in his vision as he tried his best to breath, but he couldn't shake the god off. He had no backup either, as there was no way Artemis would be able to hobble all the way up the roof.

Without much choice, Percy desperately reached up with his right hand and grabbed Ares' head, using his left hand to try and loosen Ares' grip. The son of Zeus flinched at the touch, unable to do anything about the hand since both hands were currently choking the god of heroes.

He expected Percy to weakly claw at his face or do whatever desperate people would do in his situation, but what he didn't expect was for Percy to suddenly gain a bout of strength and plunge his thumb into the war god's right eye. As his flaming eyeball was crushed through his own sunglasses, Ares cried out in pain, finally relenting his grip on Percy's neck.

The younger god kicked him off and pulled himself to his feet. While the war god tried desperately to heal his eye without any powers, Percy grabbed a shard of glass from the ground. When he saw his opponent arm himself, Ares did the same with a similar shard of glass to his.

Percy slowly approached his foe, cautiously waiting for Ares to strike first, as he usually did. Ares made no move, however, and so Percy took a stab. In his delirium, he seemed to forget all logic and tactics to his move, as Ares' very obvious plan went into action.

The god of war grabbed at his knife hand, then cut across Percy's face with his own shard. Percy stumbled back a bit, blood oozing from his scarred and wounded face, before launching himself at Ares.

The two collided, and desperately tried to push each other away. They were evenly matched, their shoes skidding along the marble stone. Sweat poured down their foreheads as two unstoppable forces tried to break each other in a heated quarrel.

Urging for a break in the stalemate, Percy made a risky move for his revolver. Risky indeed, as Ares now had the upperhand in strength. The god of war saw him pull the hammer, and somehow managed to catch the gun and avert it before Percy could fire a shot into his gut.

Now with the advantage and a remaining bit of desperation, Ares lunged forward and sunk his teeth into Percy's shoulder. The young god cried out in pain as the teeth tore into his chest, and a large chunk of flesh was separated from his shoulder.

With his opponent weak, Ares spat out the flesh, before turning and throwing Percy onto the glass roof below. It cracked underneath him, and Percy panted heavily as the pain rushed through him. He looked to his side, and saw a large hole in the glass next to him.

Ares walked over to the side and leaned down, before returning to him with his own revolver in his hands. He laughed at the wounded god, before checking his watch. "Two minutes till midnight. Good. I don't have to finish off your girl down there, I can keep her." He mocked.

Percy didn't respond, just sat up so he was leaning on one elbow, and Ares' face hardened.. He checked the ammo. One bullet. That brought a smile to his face. He flicked the cylinder back into place and brought it up. Pointing dead in between Percy's eyes, he licked the hammer. "Goodbye, Jackson." He smirked.
