The sound made the god's eyes widen, and he tried repeatedly to shoot her. When it didn't work, he dropped the gun and bolted out the door. Percy thought about chasing after him, but decided against it when Artemis ran to her twin.
He came over as well to find Apollo on the ground leaning against the wall. Artemis slid to her knees and looked at the wound, tears in her eyes. "No, no no no no. You- y-you can't, Apollo. You can't!" She cried, desperately trying to fix the wound.
"Artemi-" He whispered, but she didn't hear as she frantically examined the gunshot, trying to think of a way to save him. "Arty-" He tried again, but his voice failed him.
"No! We're gonna fix you, it's gonna be okay." She weeped, but finally Apollo spoke. "Artemis!" He exclaimed, and she froze. The god of music coughed and gently took her hand. "It's okay. It's my time, and I'm happy to go." He told her.
She shook her head. "No! Don't say that. You're gonna be fine." She said, no, hoped. "Artemis." This time it was Percy who spoke. She turned her head to him and he shook his head sadly. He knew what she didn't. This was it. There was no happy ending for Apollo.
"Artemis." Apollo said, and she turned back to him. He took her hand again and held it tight. "You're my baby sister. I love you." He told her. She had nothing to say, she just cried. "You- you're my twin. We were supposed to g-go out together." She cried, and he shook his head.
"No, no... you're meant for greater things. You were meant to live. Do that. Live." He told her. She nodded, her eyes so blurry that she could not even see her brother. Apollo turned to him and smiled. "Take care of her, Percy." He said. Percy smiled softly and nodded. "I will, Apollo."
The god turned back to Artemis. "It's just you guys and those two bastards. Go kill 'em and win for me, would you?" He asked, and Artemis nodded furiously. "I promise you, brother. I will kill Heracles. I will avenge you." She said.
Apollo nodded and chuckled. "I'll see you on the other side." He said finally, before the light in his eyes faded and his body went limp.
Artemis cried out in anguish as he other half died in her arms. Her own twin. The boy she helped deliver from her mother's womb immediately after being born herself. Her baby brother had just died in his arms, and all she could do was cry.
She sat there cradling his body and weeping for a moment, while Percy walked around and looked at the bodies of his friends. Heroes, gone in the blink of an eye. He and Artemis would do them, and Apollo, justice by killing Heracles. No matter the cost.
A silver glint caught his eye, and Percy looked down. His gun shone up at him, and Percy bent down to pick it up. Two shots left. Enough for Heracles and Ares.
He looked back over to his girlfriend, who was done with her mourning. She had stood up now, and furiously wiped away the tears. "We are gonna kill him, Percy. Let's go." She said finally, marching towards the door. "Artemis!" Percy called, but she didn't listen. "Artemis, wait!" He tried. The goddess in question ignored him, leaving the great palace and entering the streets of Olympus.
