Chapter 29: The second task
Percy PoV
We were at the lake.
Harry had just arrived late.
"Are you okay?"
"Yes, do you have a solution? What did they steal from you?" He answers me, panting.
"Don't worry about me. But do you know where Ron and Hermione are? I haven't seen them."
"Ron has been captured, I have to get him from the bottom of the lake...-"
"WHAT?! You mean they're the ones who were captured? And Hermione?"
Harry shrugs.
"Certainly at the bottom too, maybe Krum is in charge of that. But I'm worried about them... what if we don't save them?"
I put my hand on his shoulder.
"Don't worry. Everything will be fine. Just trust me. Good luck."
Harry nods and shoves something in his mouth before going to join Cedric.
"AND THERE IT IS! OUR CHAMPIONS ARE NOW READY! WATCH OUT FOR MY WHISTLE!"
Bagman was standing not far from us. He starts a countdown.
"Two... THREE! GO!"
He blows his whistle, giving the signal to start.
Out of the corner of my eye, I see Krum and Anne jumping into the water, their heads transformed, into a shark for Krum and a dolphin for Anne.
On their side, Peter and Fleur jump with air bubbles around their heads.
Cedric uses the same stratagem, and Harry is now armed with gills and webbed hands.
"Well Percy! Aren't you jumping?"
I realize that I am the last one who did not enter the water.
They need to see me do a spell to make it believable.
I raise my wand and shout:
"HeadWaterProof!"
I say it very quickly, so that it sounds like an incantation.
I see Dumbledore hiding his face in his hands.
And I jump into the water.
Of course, I breathe without difficulty.
Then I begin the descent.
The silence was total.
The temperature was cold, although not disturbing, just I feel it.
I perceive each current that passes.
I feel the presence of every living being in a rather large perimeter.
In the distance, despite the darkness, I "see" a spell fly, scattering small creatures.
Grindylows I think.
I continue to go deeper without encountering any problems.
Oops.
The sentence not to say.
Just then, a wave of little monsters starts swarming around me, so I can't grab my wand.
"Use your powers!"
I concentrate and the water around me forms a whirlpool, pulling the creatures away from me.
I take advantage of this whirlpool to go and land on the ground of the lake.
"Well, it seems that this task is a walk in the park! It is boring to death!"Complains Nyx.
"For once that there are no complications, I don't complain!"
"Let's wait and see, it's not over yet..."
I continue swimming calmly, thinking.
Who could be the person who was taken from me?
Suddenly, a movement attracts my attention a little higher.
People.
People are suspended in the water, gently rocking with the movement of the currents.
I order the currents to bring me to their height. I was finally going to get the answer, to know who I had to save.
I see Ron and Hermione tied up not far from each other. I also see people I don't know.
And then I see... No way. Who would want to rescue this guy?
Draco Malfoy.
I look around at the others, looking for a sign that I should know who to save.
But nothing.
I walk up to Draco and he's holding a piece of paper in his hands.
Curious, I grab it and unfold it.
Ancient Greek is written in a fine and pretty handwriting.
I read.
"I am sure you are good friends,
Regards, Dumbledore. "
The message ends with a rude smiley face.
"If you think I'm going to save this poor schmuck!"
"Ps: A little gift should convince you! "
I glare at Malfoy.
A gift?
I notice he's holding something in his right hand.
I grab it.
It's a box.
I open it cautiously and see... blue cookies!
"You're getting on my nerves, Dumbledore!"
I grab one and eat it all at once.
"Ummm, pretty good!"
I close the box and slip it into my pocket.
"I take this."
Well now I have to make a decision.
The decision is obvious.
I turn my wand into a pen and uncap it.
I turn Dumbledore's piece of paper over and mark on the back, on the blank side:
"I have made the decision to change our roles. Be cool, save this moron. Percy. "
And I slip the paper into Malfoy's hand, clearly visible.
Right.
I walk over to Hermione and cut her rope.
Either way Krum won't mind.
I hesitate to save the other people.
But finally, I realize that Dumbledore would never leave people in danger. At the end of the time limit, it is certain that they will not die.
So I have to get to the surface with the person I saved.
I grab Hermione and tell the currents to start slowly bringing us to the surface.
At this rate, we will be up in about ten minutes.
Since I was the first to free a prisoner, I have plenty of time.
After a few minutes, I stop, worried.
"What's up?"asks Nyx.
"It's strange. Everything is silent, even though I'm in an area that is supposed to be infested with monsters."
"They must be hiding."
Even if they're keeping away from me, they shouldn't have disappeared.
"No. I don't feel their presence. They ran away, and they did so long before I came up here. Something spooked them."
"What do you think it could be?" Questions me the goddess.
I was about to answer that I didn't know when I hear, or rather I feel something.
I lower my eyes and a form moves between the algae. A huge creature.
Suddenly, it comes out of the seaweed and runs straight at me. I pull Hermione out of the way and the monster turns around and stares at me.
The creature is colossal, several meters long, with dragon-like scales covering its snake-like body.
And its look is really not nice.
"What's that?"
"A legendary monster,"Nyx answers me. "Long considered a legend, even by the gods themselves before Poseidon met him."
"A monster that even the gods considered a legend?"
"Yes. You are looking at Leviathan."
🔱🔱🔱🔱🔱🔱🔱🔱🔱🔱
Hi demigod!
I hope you enjoyed the chapter!
The second task has begun!
How is Percy going to cope with the Leviathan? It's a monster out of the ordinary!
And what's with Dumbledore's lame humor?!
Percy and Draco? Friends?!
Give me a break!
In the meantime, we'll see you soon for the rest of this event,
Until then,
Stay cool, demigod 🔱😁
