Chapter 2: Confidence
Percy's PoV
"I want to know your story."
I look at Dumbledore, and I understand that if I'm lying, he would know.
The similarities with Chiron are really impressive.
Definitely a teacher thing.
"Prove to me that I can trust you."I say.
"Well I could prove it to you with some truth...-"
He just freezes up all of a sudden.
"Dumbledore?"
No reaction.
"Don't worry, Percy. We need to talk in private."
I turn to the origin of the voice and see Hestia.
"Lady Hestia", I bow and salute.
"Rise up. We don't have much time. There are things I need to tell you about this world."
I nod.
"First of all, know that there are not only good people. Some, when they learn of your power, will try to rally you to their cause. You need to hide your true nature while you learn the rules of this world and how to use them. But there will come a time when you will have to reveal your true nature to gain people's trust."
"I understand that. -I nod to the director- and for him?"
Hestia smiles.
"You can tell him now. He will be one of your greatest allies in this world. You can trust him."
"Very well. Anything else I need to know?"
"The director will handle the details himself."
And she disappears.
"...serum and you'll see that I'm telling the truth. Unfortunately, I don't have that potion handy, so all I can give you is my word," Dumbledore resumes as if nothing had happened.
"I believe you. "
His face takes on an air of surprise, quickly replaced by his benevolent expression.
"And where does this sudden change of heart come from? "
I look up to the sky.
"I decided to believe in Santa Claus."
Dumbledore laughs and then beckons me to walk beside him.
"I'm listening to you. Tell me who you really are."
And I begin my story from the beginning.
Dumbledore is a great listener.
The more I talked, the easier it was for me to go on.
But I knew that if I stopped, I would break.
My whole life as a demigod had been by Annabeth's side until...
When I arrived at the moment of the fight against Tartarus, my voice broke.
Dumbledore is patient, and I am grateful to him for that.
"... and so I decided to get away from all this",I finish.
The director remains silent for a few moments and stops walking.
"Already so much suffering and responsibility at such a young age... Like Harry."
"Like Harry?"
He looks at me, pensive.
"It is not a coincidence. It can't be a coincidence. If you're here, there must be a reason."
He's walking again.
"I'm sure you'll have a role to play in Harry's fate."
"What fate? What are you talking about?"
"Harry will tell you. In the meantime, hide your nature until you learn to control magic. Be a normal student. If you have to play a role, don't force it."
"I get it."
I didn't get it.
Why would I have a role to play? What is Harry's fate?
I decide not to ask questions. The answers will come by themselves.
On the way home, he tells me that he will make special arrangements for studies, since I am older.
We return to the front of the house.
"Well, this is where we separate. The next time we see each other will be as a principal and student. And don't forget. Stay hidden."
With these words, he nods at me and disappears.
I breathe a sigh and go back in the house.
Decidedly, my life would never be quiet.
Harry PoV
I hear my bedroom door open.
I look up at the letter I just received from Ron inviting me to the Quidditch World Cup and I see my cousin coming in.
"What's up? What did he want with you? You're really going to Hogwarts! "
He looks at me and gives me a smile.
"Yep I'm going to Hogwarts."
"It's so great! What did he say to you?"
Percy seems to be thinking.
"Uh, nothing special. I mean, we've been talking about, you know, the year ahead. He told me he's gonna make arrangements for me to come home the same year as you."
I had a feeling Percy was hiding something from me, but I couldn't blame him. If he wants to talk he will talk.
"DINNER! " Uncle Vernon roars downstairs.
I look at Percy.
"Let's go," Percy tossed me. "But first..."
He takes a deep breath.
"WE ARE ON OUR WAY !" Shouts my cousin in response to my uncle.
Percy winks at me.
I feel that Percy's arrival in the house is going to be a big blow, and I'm not displeased.
We go downstairs to the dining room.
The meal is done in total silence, and only Percy seems comfortable.
Dudley, on one of his many whims, drops his plate on the floor and Uncle Vernon points to Percy to clean up.
"Uhuuh, why?" Ask Percy.
"Because I order you to."
"It was Dudley who dropped it. He's picking it up."
"Listen to me you little brat, start getting angry our uncle, here you do what I ask you, is that clear?"
Percy gives me a glance in the corner and I nod my head, trying to make him understand to let it go.
"And then you don't have a say. I understood directly when Petunia told me you were coming. I told her, « It's probably a problem child if his own mother doesn't want him anymore. » Once again I was right, we are inheriting a second failure to take care of!"
Percy gives Uncle Vernon an icy, wolf-like look, and our uncle can't help but look back.
The ground begins to shake and a vase on the edge of the chimney falls and breaks.
I have to calm it down.
"By the way, my friend Ron is picking me up tomorrow to take me to the Quidditch World Cup. Percy can come with us."
I can feel Uncle Vernon relaxing a little.
"That's great. Go upstairs to bed."
I grab Percy by the shoulders and take him upstairs.
He slowly calms down, breathing deeply.
"Sorry I got carried away. I've had a hard time containing my anger since... well, anyway. I'm sorry I got carried away."
"No worries. They're hard to live with, I can't blame you. I once blew up my Aunt Marge like a balloon!"
Percy looks at me with round eyes.
"For true ?"
I nod my head and we leave laughing.
We talk about anything and everything and Percy's pretty cool. If I was going to have a brother, I'd like him to be like Percy.
Hedwig hooting, asking to go out.
I open the window and let her fly out into the night, the only time I'm allowed to let her out.
I take what I need to clean her cage, and Percy comes to help me.
"You don't have to."
"No worries. It can't be worse than taking care of the stables in Geryon's ranch !"
"What ?"
"Nothing, I was just kidding."
We clean the cage, then we each get into bed and spend the night.
"If you tell me about where we're going tomorrow?"
"My friend Ron's place. He invited me to go to the Quidditch World Cup. I'm sure you won't mind being there."
"So Quidditch is real?"
"Yes, Quidditch is real. It's played on flying brooms. You'll see tomorrow."
I see Percy smiling.
"What's up with that?" I'm asking.
"Nothing's the matter. It's just that it's cool."
And he falls asleep.
🔱 🔱🔱🔱🔱🔱🔱🔱🔱🔱🔱🔱🔱
Percy now knows that Quidditch exists.
The big question has been answered !
Then the fanfic is over!
Nah, I'm kidding.
A chapter where it talks a lot but it's necessary.
You have to lay the foundations of a fiction, uh?
Don't hesitate to vote and comment,
In the meantime,
Stay cool, demigod 😁🔱
