Percy Jackson is one of the strangest guy I've ever meet, but then again living with my aunt and uncle I didn't know anything other then my boring life. Right now Percy was attempting to turn Ron's rat, Scabbers, blue.
"If I try hard enough, I can do it." Percy said determined. "Skies, clear lagoons and sapphires of truest colour, all I want is the purest blue." Percy said for the fifth time, with no result.
"That is the worst rhyming I've ever heard." Said Hermione. "Do any of you know what house you'll be in? I've been asking around, and I hope I'm in Gryffindor, it sounds the by far the best; I hear Dumbledore himself was in it, but I suppose Ravenclaw wouldn't be too bad...Anyway, we'd better go look for Neville's toad. You two had better change, you know, I expect we'll be there soon."
And she left.
"I still don't understand." Percy said looking confused. "What houses?"
"At Hogwarts, there are four houses that they sort everyone into. There's Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff." Ron explained and Percy nodded.
"Gryffindor is for the brave and courageous, Slytherin for the clever and coldhearted, Ravenclaw for the smart and overachiever and Hufflepuff for the loyal and everyone else." Ron added in one breath.
"That's a lot to remember." Percy stated. "What house do you think I'll be in?" Ron thought about it for a second.
"I think Gryffindor." He said. "What about you Harry?" I simply shrugged.
"Whatever house I'm in, I hope she's not in it," said Ron. He threw his wand back into his trunk.
We talked for a few more minutes, but my heart wasn't really in it. That was until Ron mentioned a robbery.
"--someone tried to rob a high security vault."
"Tried to? They didn't succeed?" Percy asked while tossing his wand in the air and catching it with one hand.
"Nope and the people that robbed the vault haven't been caught. My dad says it must've been a powerful Dark wizard to get round Gringotts, but they don't think they took anything, that's what's odd. 'Course, everyone gets scared when something like this happens in case You-Know-Who's behind it."
I turned this news over in my mind. I was starting to get a prickle of fear every time You-Know-Who was mentioned. I supposed this was all part of entering the magical world, but it has been a lot more comfortable saying "Voldemort" without worrying.
"What's your Quidditch?" Ron asked.
"Er--I don't know any," Harry confessed.
"What!" Ron looked dumbfounded while Percy looked amused. As Ron started explaining every detail about Quidditch, Percy mouthed to me that he didn't know any teams either.
Ron was just taking Percy and I through the finer points of the game when the compartment door slid open yet again, but it wasn't Neville the toadless boy, or Hermione Granger this time.
Three boys entered, and I recognized the middle one at once: it was the pale boy from Madam Malkin's robe shop. He was looking at me with a lot more interest then he'd shown back in Diagon Alley.
"Is it true?" He said. "They're saying all down the train that Harry Potter's in this compartment. So it's you, is it?"
"Yes," I said. He was looking at the other boys. Both of them were thickset and looked extremely mean. Standing on either side of the pale boy, they looked like bodyguards.
"Oh, this is Crabbe and this is Goyle," said the pale boy carelessly, noticing where I had been looking. "And my name's Malfoy, Draco Malfoy."
Ron gave a slight cough, which might have been hiding a snigger. Draco Malfoy looked at him.
"Think my name's funny, do you? No need to ask who you are. My father told me all the Weasleys have red hair, freckles, and more children then they can afford." Draco turned to Percy.
"And you are?" Draco asked curiously.
"Percy Jackson. I'm a muggleborn from America." Percy simply stated. Draco wrinkled his nose.
"An American mudblood, that's even worse then a regular mudblood." Draco said with a sneer.
"I have no idea what that means, but I know an insult when I hear one." Percy said standing up. Crabbe and Goyle moved forward in an attempt to intimidate Percy. Let's just say that didn't work.
A minute later, Crabbe and Goyle had matching black eyes. Malloy still stood to the side with an exasperated expression on his face. He turned to face me.
"You'll soon find out some wizarding families are better than others, Potter. You don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there."
He held out his hand to shake mine, but I didn't take it.
"I think I can tell who the wrong sort are for myself, thanks." I said coolly.
Draco Malfoy didn't go red, but a pink tinge appeared in his pale cheeks.
"I'd be careful if I were you, Potter," he said slowly. "Unless you're a bit politer you'll go the same way as your parents. They-" Draco was interrupted by Percy who had grabbed Draco by the collar of his robes.
"Talk to Harry that way again and I'll rearrange your face. I've been kicked out of so many schools that I've lost track and I left some kids slightly more on fire then they had originally been." Percy said so menacingly that Crabbe and Goyle stood back too scared to know what to do.
Percy let him go and Draco scrambled away. All of them disappeared at once not wanting to be set on fire by Percy, or perhaps they'd heard footsteps, because a second later, Hermione Granger had come in.
"What has been going on?" She said.
"Percy just kicked Crabbe and Goyle's butts, that's what's been going on." Ron replied. I turned to Percy who still had that slightly crazy gleam in his eyes.
"You've set people on fire?" I asked unsure if I should be afraid or amazed.
"No, that was a lie, but I have been kicked out of schools for fighting and causing things to explode." Percy said. "Not on purpose of course." He added. Ron nodded and proceeded to ask me a question
"You've met Malfoy before?"
I explained about the meeting with Draco in Diagon Alley. Ron started talking about how rotten Draco's family is, but I tuned out once I noticed Percy going back to throwing and catching his wand.
"You'd better hurry up and put your robes on, I've just been up to the front to ask the conductor, and he says we're nearly there. No more fighting you three or you'll be in trouble before we even get there!"
"Percys been the one fighting, not us." Ron said earning a disgruntled sound from Percy. "Would you mind leaving while we change?"
"All right--I only came in here because people outside are behaving very childishly, racing up and down the corridors," said Hermione in a sniffing voice. "And you've got dirt on your nose, by the way, did you know?" Ron glared at her as she left.
I peered out of the window. It was getting dark. He could see mountains and forests under a deep purple sky. The train did seem to be slowing down.
Ron and I took off our jackets and pulled on our long black robes. Percy tried to put on his robes, but ended up getting trapped in them. Ron's were a bit short for him, you could see his sneakers underneath them.
A voice echoed through the train: "We will be reaching Hogwarts in five minutes' time. Please leave your luggage on the train, it will be taken to the school separately."
I have finally updated all of my stories and I Apollo-gize for keeping you waiting. No excuse. Spam me if I don't update next Monday. Later Gaters.
