Chapter 8: Retreat House

So, how many people actually want Percy/Skye pairing?

How many people don't?

This starts Season 2, Episode 14: Love in The Time of Hydra. I DO NOT OWN AGENTS OF SHIELD.

"Come with me." Coulson said as I was packing up a bag to head back to my job before I got called away.

"What about my other mission?" I asked raising an eyebrow, "The only thing you needed from me was to help Skye control her powers." I pointed out just as the plane shook just a little before settling.

I sighed, "I see your point. Nico, uh.." I trailed off not knowing what to do with Nico.

"I'm visiting Spain." he deadpanned and then just vanished into the shadows.

I dropped my bag and was about to unzip it before Coulson grabbed my wrist, "Actually, I'm taking you two to a remote location. Everyone is worried about Skye being an agent especially with her powers..." Coulson trailed off and I could see the look in his eye, he thought of Skye as a daughter and I knew then that I would help both Coulson and her get through this.

"What safe house?" I asked my voice low when Coulson said people were worried, this was going to be on the down low.

"The one that Bruce Banner would use if he felt unsafe. The one that is very isolate and that SHIELD is now using." Coulson said and at my blank look, rolled his eyes and clarified, "The one in the mountains, with the bunch of trees. I'll send the coordinates to you."

I felt amused and ushered him off to have Skye grab a bag while I ready the jet.

Most of the flight was in silence as I took off the headphones for communicating with the nearby towers and just waited for Coulson, the guy who normally breaks silence, to talk.

"I'm sorry about everything that's happening, Skye." while I couldn't see them, I knew he meant it.

"Not your fault." Skye responded almost instantly, "The blame begins and ends with my dad."

"Well, you wouldn't be the first person to have parents with misguided intentions." Coulson pointed out trying to be helpful.

"Nope, just the first whose crazy dad lured her to an alien city to get earthquake powers." I rose an eyebrow, huh, we both had parent issues, mine was a god who destined me with a war, and then another one.

"Yeah." Coulson said trying and failing to think of how to respond before saying, "I got us a little something for the trip."

I rolled my eyes thinking about what he got, I saw him take on of his stashes of Twizzlers with him. He was probably sharing them with Skye, seems she was very close to him. He only let's people he considers family, like really close family, have some. Me included.

"Thing I remember most about my dad is he was a car guy. Always working on this junker he insisted I help him fix. While my friends were outside, playing ball, having fun, there I was, stuck at home with him, fixing that damn car. Wasn't till we finished that it hit me. That car was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. And all the time we'd spent together working on it gave me an appreciation I never would have had otherwise." I let a small smile on my face, I knew the backstory of Lola, sure, but he never went into much detail.

"Hold on." Skye said like she also knew what he was talking about, "Was that car a red 1962 Corvette?"

"Yeah." Coulson said and I could imagine the small smile on his face, the one that always comes when he talks about Lola.

"Well, he'd be very proud. Your red Corvette flies. How cool is that?" Skye asked and I sat up in the pilot seat, we were getting close.

It's pretty cool." I heard Coulson pause thinking about what he was going to say next, I had a feeling it was about Skye and how everything sees her, "But I think the thing he'd like most about it at her core, she's still just a red '62 Corvette."

"Just to be clear, I-I'm the Corvette in this story. Right? Now you want to tell me where we're going?"

I decided to answer instead of Coulson letting them know I was listening the entire time, "We're almost there."

Not too long after I pressed a few buttons and made the jet slowly drop onto the ground below, oh I know this place. Fury once took me, told me we were going fishing (thankfully we released the fishes back into the water), but I still had fun.

Especially when he let me have one beer, a beer that didn't affect me at all but that's okay. It was a bonding experience. Though Fury worded it as, survival skill I needed to learn.

As we started to walk toward the place Coulson told Skye a small lie, "It's one of Fury's old retreats.Haven't been in here in years."

Part of me felt like pointing out that Bruce was the one that originally used it before it got compromised and now it's Fury's.

"Fury's not the kind of guy who has a cabin just to relax. What is this place?" Skye asked as Coulson opened the door, there was one bed so I just put my bag on the couch.

"It's a safe house for people with powers. Rogers even spent a few weeks here after he defrosted." I explained as I flopped onto the couch, I remember when Fury told me this information, I had to coordinate with the people watching the place and the ones to help him readjust. They were so incompetent.

"Okay, but who's it supposed to keep safe the people with powers or everyone else?" Skye questioned once again, clearly she was the type of person who needed to know what she's getting into.

"Both." I pointed out as I powered off my phone and was slowly disassembling it before grabbing one of my many burners and turning it on.

"Skye, I'm afraid I have to pull you from active duty." Coulson said ripping the bandage off that prolonged statement.

"I get it. I do. I just didn't think that you'd lock me up - like a werewolf during full moon." I agreed with her slightly, but I knew this was the perfect place with her training.

"You're not alone here." Coulson said trying to help Skye who seemed very agitated.

"Feels pretty isolated to me. No offense Percy." Skye said and I didn't feel that offended.

"There's a direct video link to the base, and May will keep dropping by every couple of days." Coulson said calmly but I could tell he didn't like this plan either. I put a hand on Skye's shoulder, "We can use this time to focus on developing and controlling your powers." I said softly and saw Skye look downcast and a bit afraid.

Coulson gave me a thankful look and I just responded with a tilted head and fingered" my phone, "My number. If he beeps once, I'm there, twice i'm not, three times I'm out of range." I said handing the small piece of paper that contained the number.

"I remember." Coulson said giving me a soft smile as old memories surfaced for him, "Before I forget, Simmons has been working around the clock on these. She assures me they'll cut your recovery time in half." Coulson said opening a case with gloves in them.

I did wonder what happened to her arms, with the casts around them. If I remember Coulson might've mentioned that Skye tried working on her powers alone but there was an altercation which is why he called me? What was the altercation?

"How to they work?" I asked wondering if they are a great idea.

"The internal wiring emits a surge of electricity - to inhibit your powers." I pursed my lips, if she is to control her powers these won't help.

"So these take my powers away?" Skye asked her voice sounding a bit hopeful.

"More like decrease their magnitude to keep you from hurting yourself." Coulson said but looked at me and my attitude toward the gloves, "Like I said, we want you to heal."

If they don't take away her abilities I might be able to work with them...

"Seems like a no-brainer." Skye said as she felt the gloves

"It's a personal call." Coulson said looking like he didn't know what to think about the gloves or how they would help Skye.

"What do you mean? Are there side effects?"

"A few. Simmons can go over them with you later." Coulson said not knowing what to say or really do right now.

"Let's just have some coffee and you can fill me in on a few facts I'm missing." I said breaking the topic from the gloves that I didn't know what to think about.

Slowly, the filled me in on what I missed. Andrew Garner and his evaluation of Skye that says she shouldn't be in SHIELD. How she got the cast, which I tutted about  because I warned her earlier (f course it already happened before I came here), how her friendship with Simmons is a bit limited, Fitz and how he helped her, and then the temple and explaining the process.

I could tell they left something out but figured they probably lost a person sadly, so I didn't push. They then told me about Raina and what to kinda look out for.

Not too long after Coulson got a phone call where he just seemed to be listening, "Thanks for the update, Mack."

Is everything okay?" I asked wondering how Coulsons team was going, "I'm afraid I have to get back." Coulson said looking sadly at Skye who tried to act fine but clearly wasn't

"I get it. Didn't expect you to stay and roast marshmallows." Skye said as she dried one of the coffee cups.

"This is temporary, Skye. I'll be back in a couple days. If you need anything-"

" I'll let you know." Skye finished as she moved to hug him, "We'll figure this out."

"I promise." Coulson said and I knew he meant it. Once he was done hugging Skye he moved toward me.

"Thank you Percy. For everything that you are and are going to do." he said quietly.

I just gave him a soft smile, "Let's just say payback for helping me find my way." I said giving him a small hug.

"I'll see you guys in a few days." He said leaving the house.

"So, what's on the agenda?" Skye asked looking around bored.

"What do we have for food? S'mores sound delirious." I said and heard Skye chuckle softly.

"I don't know if we have firewood." She pointed out but I just smiled.

"We're in a forest. There is still light. You search for the food, I'll get some wood." I said clipping my gun to my belt when Skye turned away toward the cupboard.

As I collected firewood, I also made a round around the place to keep an eye out. When I felt safe enough I turned around and went back, "I think I have enough." I said placing them next to the house outside as I saw Skye lounging in the front by the steps.

"We're in luck, DC actually got s'more ingredients." Skye said laughing.

Quietly we started to fire and were quickly enjoying the great outdoor snack.

"So, what's the story. With you and DC?" Skye asked as she cooked another marshmallow.

"It started when I was Seventeen, I left the people I once knew as family. I was desperate and sad and most of all. Wanting to get drunk. Somehow I ended up in a bar in Saint Louis, where I met Fury-"

"Wait, Director Fury? In Saint Louis?" Skye sounded so confused yet interested. What she said made me laugh.

"He never really told me why he was there." I said smiling, "he took me under his wing, I didn't know why he did but he was there and I trusted him for some reason. It was three months later when I got extremely curious about where he goes during the day. So I followed him."

"You followed the Director of SHIElD, a spy organization?" Skye asked smiling brightly

"I didn't know that at the time." I pointed out.

"Did you get caught?" Skye asked smirking like she knew the answer.

"Actually no, well, he knew I was following me and was testing me. But I got past the famous Black Widow and Hawkeye along with other guards of the place."

"Wait, Avengers Hawkeye and Black Widow. No way! I don't believe you!" Skye smiled and hit my shoulder lightly.

"They never knew I was there, promise. Fury was so impressed by me that he asked if I wanted to be an agent. I thought about it for a month before telling him sure, I had nothing to lose and he seemed very proud of me when I graduated in less than a week."

"Really? Less than a week?" She looked so curious and I just smiled jokingly.

"What you thought I would last longer than a week? Nah what happened was that the stuff they taught me I already knew, or they didn't know how to really teach me. I took in everything they taught me with ease, I can shoot a gun pretty good, batons are deadly, knifes you don't want to get in my way, I can throw them pretty good too. Just don't ask me to shoot a bow and arrow." I joked, "But everything else that would be taught during the year I just knew."

"That's crazy, I use to be a hacker but you're backstory sounds way cooler." Skye said mushing her marshmallow onto gram cracker and chocolate.

"Everyone's backstory is different. But anyway, Fury eventually had Coulson be my handler because he takes the weird. I mean there was Natasha who Clint, Hawkeye, was suppose to kill but recruited. Clint who use to be a bow and arrow guy for the circus, and then there's me. The crazy guy who wields a sword like it's an extra limb."

"What does that make me?" Skye asked

"That makes you his awesome hacker girl who is turning more than just a hacker girl each day." I said softly and ashed as she smiled.

I slowly stood up and dusted my pants, "It's late. I'll take the couch, no arguing." I commented just as Skye opened her mouth and then rolled her eyes.

"What are we doing tomorrow?" Skye questioned following my lead.

"Training." I said and put a hand on her shoulder when she winced, "Everything will be alright, I'm there to help remember." I said softly and saw her give me a grateful smile.

"Night." I said happily as I flopped onto the couch and was out like a light totally forgetting to change into PJ's or grab a blanket.

I'm thinking about redoing all of the previous chapter before he meets Agents of SHIELD crossover, what do you guys think. I just don't like how it goes and how it doesn't really flow with the story.
