Chapter 4: Camp Half-Blood

I stared at the guy's hand for a solid minute, debating on whether or not I should take it. Part of me was saying that I should take it since this guy just saved my life. The other was screaming STRANGER DANGER!!!

The guy, still holding his hand out, said, "I don't bite."

Reluctantly, I grabbed his hand and he pulled me to my feet.

I looked at the limp body on the ground and asked, "He's not dead, right?"

The guy shook his head, "No, just unconscious."

"What the hell just happened?" I asked, suddenly remembering everything that just happened.

The man didn't reply. I could see him eyeing my face like he recognizes me but can't place how. He then asked, "What's your name, kid?"

"Luke," I said. "Luke Jackson."

The guy's eyes widened at the sound of my name, again looking like he recognized it.

Seeing his reaction, I asked quickly, "What is it?"

The guy asked, "Who's your dad?"

"What does that have to do with anything?" I replied.

"Just answer the question." He answered back.

I shook my head, "It doesn't matter who my dad is. He's either dead or he abandoned me."

The guy's eyes widened again. He asked, "What do you mean?"

Getting a little irritated, I said quickly, "I don't know. All I know is that my parents went on a vacation a few months after I was born and never came back. Now can we drop this?"

He nodded, "Don't worry, I get it. My parents died when I was just a year old. It's a sensitive subject for me too. Just tell me one thing: Is his name Percy Jackson?"

My jaw dropped. My irritation quickly went away, and the only thing on my mind was how he know who my dad was. I voiced my question, but the guy just said, "You have to come with me."

He stuck out his hand again, offering it to me. I took a step back and replied, "No way. I'm not going anywhere with you. Forgetting the part that I don't even know you, you just knocked someone out with a stick. A freaking stick!"

The guy nodded, "You're right. You don't know me, or what else I can do. But you have to come with me. If you don't, someone else will come to do what our unconscious friend here couldn't. You have to trust me if you want to live."

"Why should I trust you? How do I know you won't just kill me?" I asked.

The guy retorted, "You're still standing here, right? I've had ample opportunity to kill you if I wanted to."

Realizing the stupidity in my question, I lowered my guard a little. "At least tell me your name, and how you just used that stick to knock someone out."

The guy smiled as I relaxed. "My name's Harry Potter. As for your other question, it's a long explanation. But long story short, I'm a wizard."

I snorted, "Yeah right."

The guy, Harry, raised his stick at the unconscious body before it started to levitate off the ground. My jaw dropped as he transformed the body into a broom and placed it into a cleaning closet. While he put his stick back into his pocket, I asked, "How the hell did you just do that?"

Harry just said, "Magic."

He then turned back to me and stuck out his arm. "Take it, please. We really should be going. Your teachers should be starting to notice your absence."

The assembly. I had totally forgotten. "What about my friends, my team? Their counting on me to make a speech. And what about my grandparents. Someone just tried to kill me. Shouldn't they know? I need to tell them what just happened."

Harry shook his head, "Don't worry about your assembly. This is more important. As for your grandparents, I'll tell them after we get to where we need to go. I'm a friend of your parents. Your grandparents will understand when they see me. But for right now, we need to go."

I grabbed his arm and suddenly, everything went black. I immediately felt like I was being pressed into a ball from every direction. I couldn't even breathe, and it felt like my eyes were about to hit the back of my skull. Then, as quickly as it started, it stopped.

We were suddenly standing on a hill, overlooking a camp of some kind. However, I didn't get a good look at it before I started barfing like there was no tomorrow.

When I was done, Harry said, "Don't worry, a lot of people throw up their first time."

"What was that? Teleportation?" I asked, wiping my mouth.

Harry shook his head, "Apparition."

"Appar-what?"

"Don't worry about it right now. Come on." He said.

For the first time, I took a good look at our surroundings. Above us was a sign that I could surprisingly read. It said, Camp Half-Blood.

"'Camp Half-Blood?'" I asked myself.

As we walked into the camp, we saw groups of people wearing orange t-shirts, and some of them even wore ancient-style armor. When we walked past them, I swore I heard them start to whisper things.

Then, we saw a group of large wooden buildings and even an amphitheater. As I took in everything around me, I asked, "What is this place?"

Harry replied, "The safest place on Earth for people like you."

"What do you mean 'like me?'" I asked.

Harry didn't respond.

We continued to walk in silence for the next few minutes until we reached a very big house. It wasn't exactly a mansion. It was just a big house.

When we got to the front door, Harry turned to me and said, "Luke, get ready because your whole life is about to change."

I was about to ask what he meant by that when he opened the door and we were met by the sound of people arguing.

I walked into the house and walked toward the arguing. I walked into a large room, where a group of people was huddled around a table, engaging in a deep discussion. From what I could tell, they all looked to be in their twenties. At the head of the table was a middle-aged man in a wheelchair.

It took them a few seconds to realize Harry and I were there, but as soon as they did, they all stopped speaking to look at us.

They first looked at Harry, before their gazes settled on me. Suddenly, they all gasped. The middle-aged man looked at me in disbelief and said, "My gods."

Then, a tall girl with dark eyes, brown hair, and a scar on her chin asked, "It can't be, can it? Is it really him?"

The middle-aged man nodded.

All of their eyes were still on me, and it was making me a little uneasy. The middle-aged man rolled his wheelchair over to me and greeted, "Welcome, Luke. It's nice to finally meet you."

"How do you know my name?" I immediately asked.

The middle-aged man just said, "I'm an old family friend."

Then, the most unexpected thing ever happened. The guy stood up out of his wheelchair, and instead of typical human legs, he had the bottom half of a horse.

I took a few steps back, "What the frick? That's not possible."

Someone at the table called out, "Just wait, kid."

The man, or whatever he is, explained, "I'm a centaur, Luke. Half-human, half-horse."

"Like in Greek mythology?" I said, my mouth seemingly on the ground.

"Close your mouth, kid. You wouldn't want to catch flies, now would you?" A guy with curly brown hair and blue eyes said.

The person standing next to him, who looked like he was his brother, gave him a high five. "Nice one." He said.

The man, or centaur I guess, nodded, "Yes. My name is Chiron, but I also answer to Mr. Brunner if you wish to call me that?

"So your name is Chiron Brunner? No offense or anything, but it seems like a weird name." I said.

Chiron/Mr. Brunner shook his head, "My last name is not Brunner. In fact, I actually don't even have a last name. Mr. Brunner is just the name I take outside this camp. I can't go around like this, now can I?"

He gestured to his lower half.

Harry then spoke up, "Chiron, could we please speak in private."

Chiron nodded, "Of course, Harry. It's good to see you, by the way."

"And you, Chiron."

Chiron led us to another room in the house. Stepping inside, I could immediately tell that it was some sort of office. Chiron gestured us to sit down, as he stood behind his desk.

Now that I was... less shocked by his lower half, I was able to notice the aura he gave off. He seemed like a teacher --- someone you could trust. He had a warm and gentle smile, and he looked at you in a way that gave you all the confidence in the world. Even though I had only known him for less than ten minutes, I knew that I never wanted to disappoint him.

Chiron asked, "What happened, Harry? Sally didn't mention anything about Luke being in danger the last time we spoke."

Harry explained, "A dark wizard attacked him. Luckily, I was in the city and noticed the dark wizard enter the school. I was able to save Luke just in time."

"And where is the wizard now?" Chiron asked.

"He's currently unconscious in a cleaning closet for now. I was gonna go back and get him once I brought Luke here."

Chiron nodded. "Thank you, Harry," he said. "I'm grateful for the Fates placing you near the school. But you can now go. I can take it from here."

Harry nodded, "See you, Chiron."

Harry turned to me and said, "I'm sure we'll see each other again, Luke."

He waved goodbye to me and then suddenly, there was a loud crack and Harry was gone.

Chiron walked out from behind his desk and said, "I know you have a lot of questions right now.  But for now, come with me."

Chiron took me back to the room with the large table, which I realized was a ping-pong table. The people talking earlier were still there.

I could feel their eyes following me once again. Chiron said, "Go bring the campers to the Amphitheater."

They all nodded as Chiron and I left the house. He led me back toward where Harry and I came from. But this time, a large dragon was laying down next to a tree.

"What the hell is that?" I asked.

Chiron replied, "Peleus. He guards the tree. Don't worry, he won't hurt you."

"That reassuring," I said, a little sarcastically.

Chiron turned to the dragon and said, "Peleus, go stretch your wings for a few minutes."

Peleus growled a little in response, almost like he didn't want to leave. "Go, Peleus," Chiron said again, "Please."

Reluctantly, Peleus slowly got up, before spreading his wings and jumping into the air.

Once he was gone, Chiron turned back to me and apologized, "Sorry about him. He doesn't like to leave his post."

"Post?" I asked, "What's he guarding here that's so important?"

Then, I saw it. Laying at the base of the tree Peleus was sitting at was a blanket of some sorts, with golden designs on it. It can't be, I thought. The Golden Fleece?!

"Is that what I think it is?" I asked Chiron.

Chiron nodded, "The Golden Fleece. The very one that Jason himself went on a quest to retrieve."

I could feel the energy radiating off of it. I felt like it was pulling me closer to it, trying to heal every little bit of damage my body had taken throughout my life.

"C-Can I touch it?" I asked.

Chiron nodded.

As soon as I touched it, the Fleece began to glow. I could feel my body being healed; everything from cuts and scrapes to the acne on my face.

Meanwhile, Chiron looked between me and the Fleece, before sighing and putting a hand on the bark of the tree. He said, "It feels almost surreal seeing you here with the Fleece in your hand, on this very hill. After all, this is where it all started, all those years ago."

I placed the Fleece down and raised an eyebrow, "What do you mean?"

Chiron sighed again, "Twenty-one years ago, at this very spot, your father arrived at this very camp. He was no older than twelve years of age back then."

"My-my dad came here?" I asked, making sure my ears weren't messing with me. "Why?"

Chiron looked at me with sadness in his eyes, "You deserve to know the truth, Luke. About your father. Your mother. What truly happened to them. But most importantly, the truth about yourself."

"Myself?"

Chiron nodded, "Come with me. There is much for you to learn about the world we live in."
