The last thing Percy had been expecting to find under the pier was a man, tied up by his ankles, dressed head to tow in leather and spandex, full of several bullet wounds, and about twenty weapons under his head. The most surprising bit was that the man was still alive, and if the blood on him and around him was anything to go by, he should not be alive.
Percy sighed, not at all surprised that this would happen to him. It was expected at this point. After a few moments of standing there thinking about what to do, he decided to just wake him up.
"Hey", Percy shoved the guy a little bit, "Wake up, dude". It took a little bit longer to wake him up, but once he did, things only got weirder.
"Fuck", the guy groaned and tried to get himself down, however he thought that was going to work.
"Hello?", Percy waved, and the guy finally saw him, eyes widening, somehow(a mask isn't supposed to emote right?).
The man looked him over, and Percy could tell he was grinning. "Hi! Is there any chance you can cut me down?"
"Dude, I am pretty sure you're supposed to be dead, so I'd rather not", He told him, and the guy shrugged, upside down, it looked weird.
"I can't die", that wasn't the explanation he was looking for, and the other guy seemed to pick up on it and added, "Look, cutie, you cut me down and I'll explain everything"
Percy could feel his cheeks heat up, but he ignored that, "Or you might just kill me". Despite saying that, Percy picked up the katana closest to him, knowing Riptide would do nothing, that or this weirdo would think he's trying to cut him down with a baseball bat.
"Be careful with that", he warned. Percy also chose to ignore that, and cut the ropes around his ankle, making him fall on his head. "Shit!"
Percy smirked a little, twirling the sword around in his hand, the balance wasn't too bad. "You ready to explain?"
The guy sat back up. "First things first", he stood up and offered him a, blood encrusted, hand, "I'm Deadpool"
Percy snorted but shook his hand, "You can call me Percy"
"Alright, Percy, let's go somewhere private", 'Deadpool' (because there was no way that was his real name) said. Percy didn't have much of a choice other than to help him pick up his weapons and then follow him.
-
'Somewhere private' apparently meant the top of a building, and Percy was not happy about it.
"I have followed you all the way over here, are you going to tell me what's going on now?", Percy asked.
"Sure, handsome", Deadpool, he sat on the edge of the building, "Like I said I can't die"
"Stop doing that", Percy said in reference to the name, and sat, a lot slower, next to him, "And what do you mean you can't die?"
The next ten minutes were filled with Deadpool explaining healing factors and other stuff. Most of it wasn't actually anything that had to do with what Percy asked. It would seem he had found someone with adhd to rival his own. But when he was done, Percy took his chance.
"So if I pushed you.."
"I would be back up in here in like five minutes unless it did actual damage", Percy was almost tempted to try it. But he didn't.
"Okay, why were you tied up and full of holes when I found you?"
Deadpool seemed to have a conversation with himself, which Percy couldn't judge him for, being his own Jiminy Cricket sometimes. He seemed to come to a decision, and Percy could tell he was upset, despite the mask blocking his face.
"I'm afraid, Percy, that if I told you that, you wouldn't like me anymore", he said.
"No one said I liked you in the first place", Percy reminded him, "And I've seen and heard some pretty gruesome things", he's done some gruesome things, "I won't care"
Deadpool seemed a little unsure, but shrugged.
"I was hired to kill this guy..."
And that was the beginning of a beautiful friendship between a demigod and a mercenary.
----
Percy had met up with Wade (he finally got his real name out of him) a couple more times, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose. The last time they met up, Percy finally gave him his number.
Which wasn't a problem, because he seems to have an archive of memes he is constantly sending, until Percy he called while someone was over.
His phone started playing Under The Sea and Percy was quick to answer, ignoring the looks that Peter, who was his tutor and next door neighbor, sent him for his ringtone.
"Wade? What do you want?", he asked, not missing the way Peter's eyes widened, he wondered what that was about. He did not get to wonder long because Wade answered him.
"Can I drop by? I'm waiting on a couple organs to-", this wasn't uncommon.
Percy sighed, "Of course. Are you bleeding?" Peter shot him another look, but he sent him one too, telling him to not mention it.
"A little? Why?"
"It took me a month to get the stains out of the carpet", he explained, "I'm gonna put something down for you"
Wade just laughed and hung up. Percy stood up to go grab a couple towels, leaving a confused Peter in his room.
When he got back, he tried to explain the best he could.
"My friend gets into fights sometimes", He sounded lame, "He likes to come over and, you know, bide his time and clean himself up a bit.."
"Okay?", Peter said skeptically,"Should I leave?"
Percy thought about it for a moment before shrugging. "Do what you want"
Peter looked confused, but nodded. "Wanna continue before he gets here?"
"Sure", he said, picking up the English book he had discarded. He wasn't able to read a word of it.
-
Peter was freaking out. Like seriously freaking out big time. Why? Deadpool just climbed through Percy's window.
Deadpool just climbed through Percy Jackson's Window!!
And all Percy said was, "Lay on the towels, not the bed", as he shoved him away.
Peter tried not to let them know that he recognized him. He had thought of Deadpool when Percy said Wade, but there's plenty of Wades, aren't there? He didn't expect the guy he has been friends with for the last six or seven years to know Wade Wilson!
He tried to calm down, and act natural as he watched him stumble over to where Percy was pointing.
"Babe, you didn't tell me anyone else was over", Wade whined, laying face down on the floor, rather dramatically.
Peter gasped, inaudibly (thank Thor) and Percy snorted.
"I don't have to tell you things if you're going to use my bedroom as a hideout or whatever", he said, and then added, "Don't call me babe"
"Sorry, sweetheart", Wade answered, and Peter wasn't surprised that Percy gave up easily, there was no stopping him from using nicknames, or even endearments for whoever he liked. "Also I can't get an apartment or anything without getting a Visa, and well.."
"Yeah, whatever", Percy threw a pillow at him, "Make yourself comfortable, Peter and I have to study"
Wade laughed putting the pillow under his head, "Nerds"
This time Percy through a textbook at his head.
"Ow"
"That didn't even hurt", Percy told him, and Peter could tell he was having a bit too much fun messing with Wade.
"You sure? Because I can help you find out", Wade threw the book back at him, not even looking at Percy.
Percy who caught it one handed. "I'd rather you didn't. Thanks for the book back though"
Peter really wanted to say something, but wasn't sure now was the time.
Unfortunately that time didn't come befor Wade brought up Spider-Man.
"I saw Spidey last night", there was something similar to awe in his voice. Peter almost lost his cool then, and Percy must have saw how freaked out he was, because he sent him a questioning glance, but Peter waved him away.
"Gotta give up on that, dude", Percy said now, "Pretty sure he's younger than both of us"
"What makes you think that?", Peter asked at the same time Wade said, "I don't have a crush on flippin' Spider-Man"
Percy looked between, trying to choose who to answer first, choosing Wade. "Okay buddy, just don't get thrown in jail", Then he turned towards Peter, who was trying not to freak out, "I don't know, just watching the way he acts, you know? And I talked to him once, he was saving a cat or something, and you can kinda tell", Peter was only freaking out a little bit, "But I also deal with 100 kids and teenagers every summer, so.."
Peter relaxed a bit after he said that, but was still kind of tense.
"Are you ever going to tell me what you do at camp?", Wade spoke up, "Because I'm pretty sure it's not real"
"Dude, it is real", Percy said, "It's just a normal summer camp"
"Then why'd they want you?", Wade asked, and Peter couldn't help but nod. There was something abnormal about Percy, even if he couldn't place it.
"I'd also like to hear about your camp", Peter said, and Percy sighed. He closed his book and began to tell them about camp. And it was all normal stuff, but something told him it wasn't the full truth.
-
When Peter left, Percy walked him to the door and stepped into the hall between their two apartments.
"I know you're probably freaking out, but if you could just not mention Wade to anyone, that'd be great", He said and Peter nodded.
"I won't", he promised, and Percy seemed to believe him, since he smiled and said bye before stepping back into his own home.
Peter also went home, fully prepared to tell Ned about all of this.
----
One of the things Percy did when they got back from to New York and had defeated Gaia was go home. He's pretty sure that his Mom had never cried like that. He knew for a fact he has never cried like that, not in a long time at least. And he's pretty sure that Paul was crying a little too. It was a nice reunion, until his Mom saw his tattoo and he had to explain that one.
Another thing he did was text Wade. Who responded so quickly it was almost concerning.
Wade: ill be there in 5
That's all the message said, and yet he was nervous to see him for some reason. All the nerves left the second he saw him and was being hugged tightly.
"I can't breathe", he said, knocking on Wade's back. He wasn't wearing his suit, just sweatpants and a t-shirt with a cat on it. His mask was still there though.
Wade let go of him, and Percy saw the punch coming, but he let it hit its mark. He stumbled back, grasping his nose, but he was still smiling.
"Nice to see you too, buddy", Percy tried, but Wade actually seemed to be taking this seriously.
"A year. You disappeared for a year", Wade crossed his arms, "And that's all you have to say?"
Percy shrugged, "What do you want me to say?"
"I don't know", he exclaimed throwing his hands into the air, "Hey Wade, gonna bounce, won't be back for a while so that whole thing we planned for my 18th birthday is off, I'll see you in a year, or I don't know, the truth"
"Okay", Percy nodded and Wade dropped his hands in disbelief.
"What?", he asked, the way he could portray so much emotions with the mask was something he still didn't understand, but Wade was definitely confused.
"I'll tell you the truth", Percy answered and Wade's eyes widened, but he didn't say anything, so Percy just gestured to his bed, both of them sitting down. He thought Wade might try to say something before he began, but when he didn't, Percy started talking.
"It all started when I was twelve..."
-
"That's fucking sick! You're indestructible now?", Wade asked.
"Being a demigod sucks, and yes"
----
Percy had agreed to 'patrol' with Wade. Not bothering to cover his face, the only thing he could use to hide himself was the oversized hoodie he had on.
Nothing much happened, and if it did, Percy looked away so he was an unreliable witness.
What he hadn't been expecting on 'patrol' was to run into one of the Avengers. They didn't like Wade that much.
"Deadpool, get away from the kid", The Black Widow sighed, gesturing to Percy, but keeping her gun trained on Wade. He supposed he understood why she thought he was a hostage or something. Most people don't travel around with mercenaries in the middle of the night. But then again, there's no way that she could misread the body language between them so badly. Wade's arm was around his waist, his own around the other's shoulders. It should have at least seemed like they were friends. Because they were, but any logical person would have thought that they were a couple at first glance, several people that night had asked. They didn't get an answer because Wade.. well he did what he does best.
(Percy was pretty sure they weren't actually dead though. Especially the one Wade had left a note on for Spider-Man).
"Nope, sorry, no can do", Deadpool smiles. Natasha frowns.
"And I'm not a kid", Percy said defensively.
"I don't care", she groaned, "You look underage and Wade most certainly is not"
"How would you know?", Wade asked. He was only a year older than Percy.
"I'm not stupid", The Black Widow sighed.
"Agree to disagree?" Percy asked grabbing Wade's hand. "Let's go"
"You can't leave with him", she stopped him and now Percy was getting mad. Wade didn't do human trafficking, and he really didn't run around with random teenagers, him and Spidey not included.
"Ma'am, I really do want to be respectful, but I have a test tomorrow, and I have to go home. And Deadpool needs to rest, he has a few fingers to regenerate, so I would like you to move, please", Percy explained and Black Widow looked confused.
"You're really hanging around Deadpool, willingly?", She looked kind of upset by that.
"Yes?", Percy couldn't understand what was confusing her now, "And also I'm not underage"
"Yeah, what do you take me for, Widow?", Wade asked and she shrugged.
"You hang around Spider-Man a lot", she said, and Wade frowned. Percy was a little proud that he had guessed Spidey's age range well though.
"Spidey's a nice guy", he said, "Doesn't judge me too much"
Percy snorted but it went unnoticed by the spy, who was just staring at Wade like he lost his mind. Which he had, but that wasn't her business.
"I still have to make sure you leave safely", she said, and then whispered something into her coms. Percy and Wade just stood there, waiting.
Wade kept tapping his foot and pretending to check his watch, muttering about being late, and how he had places to be, skulls to crush, so on.
It was kind of funny, but Percy was pretty sure he was being a little serious about the skull crushing.
Eventually someone else showed up. Percy couldn't help but wonder why she had called this specific person, but he wasn't going to argue with her, not anymore.
Captain America on the other hand seemed fully prepared for a fight.
"Wade, if you don't let the kid go, we'll have to make you", he said, and Percy kind of wanted to know how he would do that, considering Wade didn't really take damage, not permanently anyhow.
"Dude", he sighed, Wade was patting him on the back, "I was helping him patrol, that's all"
Captain America and Black Widow looked taken aback by that, which made Percy sigh for the millionth time.
"Why would you let a civillian patrol with you?!", the captain asked angrily.
"Pretty sure he could take you both in a fight, but okay", Wade snorted, and Percy laughed. The other two looked offended.
"C'mon man, I can't destroy America's captain", he said, "Though, my cousin might be impressed"
"Which one?", Deadpool asked, and Percy shrugged.
"A couple of them actually", he meant Ares, but he was pretty sure Apollo would like to see it happen too. Maybe Hermes.
"Why do you think he could take on Captain America?", Black Widow asked, interrupting.
"Just a gut feeling", Wade shrugged, the liar. "I also think he could destroy you"
Black Widow actually looked a bit worried then, and Percy laughed again.
"Seriously guys, I have to go, Peter is gonna be pissed if I miss study time again", Percy said, "Last time he hid all the blue food coloring in my apartment, and I can't go through that again"
The two Avengers still looked unsure, but this was getting nowhere unless they fought, and despite Wade and him claiming that they could take them down, they both weren't sure about outright hurting a civillian.
"I'll leave without Deadpool", Percy said, and Wade looked a bit upset at that, but didn't say anything, though he could hear him muttering to himself, quiet enough that the other's couldn't.
Eventually they let him go, Percy saying a quick goodbye to Wade and pushing past the two Avengers.
He got home relatively unscathed, other than a couple of hellhounds that attacked him.
Peter asked why he smelt like sulfur, Percy shrugged.
----
When the Avengers 'Civil War' happened, Percy watched it on the news, and he knew which side he was on, but he didn't talk about it with anyone.
Though when Peter disappeared he did realize something else. He kept that to himself too.
And everything was fine for a while. Until Tony Stark came back, beaten to a pulp and word of him having emergency surgery was all over the news. They were saying Captain America did that to him. He wasn't too surprised. Not after everything else.
He also knew that the Avengers, minus Stark, were all on the run now. This didn't effect him personally though, so he ignored it.
Until Wade came crashing into his room, stumbling over all the stuff Percy should have picked up, upset about something.
"Wade? What's-", Percy didn't get too finish what he was going to say before Wade was up again, and tackling him into a hug. Luckily Percy was pretty strong, so it didn't knock him over too much.
"They want me to sign, Perce", he muttered, and Percy nodded, that wasn't too surprising. "They said since I do some vigilante type stuff I have to"
"What about the other stuff?", he asked.
"They didn't mention it", that was weird.
"Why?"
"I think they don't want it connected to the accords or something", he shrugged, letting go of Percy and sitting on the bed, "I don't know what the fuck is going on anymore"
"Then why don't you ask?", Percy sat down next to him.
"Who would I ask?", Wade looked at him.
"I don't know. Stark?", Percy suggested and Wade perked up a little at that.
"Oh my God", Wade said, excitedly. He grabbed Percy's arm, "That's a good idea! Will you come with me?"
Percy looked at him, and was going to say no, but he was somehow doing convincing puppy dog eyes at him and he couldn't. "Fine"
"I love you!", Wade hugged him again, and Percy laugh.
"I know", Peter was rubbing off on him, that was too easy of a reference to make.
Wade just grinned.
----
Tony did not know what to make of the people sitting in front of him right now. Deadpool and some kid showed up, wanting to talk about the accords. He wanted to scream.
"Hi, Mr.Stark", the kid stuck out a hand for him to shake, so he did, "I'm Percy"
"You know who I am", Deadpool smiled at him, and Tony frowned back.
"I do. I also know that you're supposed to sign", he sighed, "It's not negotiable at this point Wade, either sign, or stop doing any good at all"
"I know that", Wade insisted, "I just wanted to ask you about it"
Tony was surprised that he was being so civil. He couldn't help but think it was because of Percy somehow.
"What about you?", he asked Percy.
"I guess being an Avenger or whatever could be fun", he wasn't planning on doing this, but he kind of wanted to, now that he was there and the impulse took over him.
"Are you enhanced? Have a suit?", Tony asked, wanting to know if he was even qualified, "Any training?"
"I've been training with a sword, and various weapons since I was twelve", Percy said, and Tony was a bit surprised by that, but he knew the kid did something, his hands were too rough and calloused. "I'd also like to be listed as a mutant"
"Listed as? So you're not one?", Tony asked, and Percy shrugged.
"I can control water, speak to sea creatures, whatever, I have been able to do it my whole life", he answered him, "But no, I'm not, the situation is a bit more complicated than that"
"How so?", he asked and Wade looked excited, which was a little scary.
-
"Okay, I'll talk to the council. Wade, stop by tomorrow, I have a lawyer you can talk to", Tony said, and then looked at Percy. "I'll tell them you're a mutant"
Percy smiled and thanked him. Then Tony excused himself, wondering why he kept letting gods and demigods on to his team.
