Ballistic

I woke up groggy and with a searing headache. After a night like last night, I wasn't surprised. The news of Sophia and Logan's technical four-year engagement had hit Percy like a boulder to the chest. Thanks gods he hadn't questioned the sleeping arangements... yet. As of last night, he'd been too busy questioning Lena's date, Nathan. Thinking back, he was practically obsessed with his daughters' love lives.

"Why aren't you quesitoning Emma?" I asked as we got ready for bed. Thanksgiving dinner was weighing me down- it had only been a few hours since we'd finished dinner.

        "Because," Percy said.

"That's not a reason, Seaweed Brain," I hoped he'd still let me call him that when he found out I knew about the engagement for a few months.

Percy huffed. "Rion's a guy, he can handle himself."

I laughed, making a face at him. "Because you're such an excellent example of that. Logan and Nathan are probably terrified of you!"

"Or conspiring against me." Percy added harshly. I snorted.

        "They're kids, Percy! They-"

"Exactly. Annabeth, Sophia's 21. She's not ready for a commitment like that!"

"She's an adult now, Percy, and she can make her own decisions. Listen, I'm not arguing with you about this, it's Thanksgiving, and we're together as a family. What more could you ask for?"

"Less of a family," Percy had muttered.

I shook the thought out of my head, wandering into the bathroom to start my day. Percy was still sound asleep in bed. I could hear somebody donwnstairs, and I was hoping Logan was out of Sophia's bed by the time Percy woke up.

Much to my surprise, almost everyone was up downstairs. Sophia and Logan were all dressed for a run, which apparently they did now, and Rion was making coffe for Nathan, Emma, and Lena.

"Morning, Mom!" Lena smiled, sipping her fresh cup of coffee. The aroma wafted my way, and motioned for Rion to pour me a cup.

"You guys are all up early," I smiled, taking a seat on the sofa. "Are you two off for a run?"

Sophia nodded. "We try to do it five times a week, to stay in shape for... you know, stuff," Although Sophia and Logan hadn't been on a quest since they'd started college, and probably wouldn't go on one again, they made it seem like it was their job to go save the world. Sophia, as always, took that job very seriously.

"I would much rather fill up on coffee and watch the news, but thanks for the info... Maybe I'll join the club next semester," I laughed, winking at Sophia. "Have fun!"

Taylor and Luke wandered down next, already beginning their argument. "Starbucks is better than Monster Donut, and you know it."

        "You've never even been!"

"Neither have you!" Taylor spotted Nathan and gulped. I glared at her, along with Lena, who looked like the vein on her forehead was about to pop.

"Are you okay, Lena?" Nathan said, flashing her a concerned look.

"I'm fine. Just rosy." She angrily took another sip of coffee, leaving Nathan completely clueless as ot her sudden fit of anger.

Percy came downstairs at 11. "So Sleeping Beauty lives!" Luke smiled, Percy ruffling his hair. He'd begun to go back to his normal self.

"How did everyone sleep?" Percy asked, trying to be a good host like I'd asked him to be.

"I'm sure some slept better than others," Luke snickered, glancing out the door, where Sophia and Logan were getting ready for their run.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Percy asked, looking at me suspiciously. "Annabeth, can I talk to you for a second? Alone?" I sighed, following Percy upstairs. It always landed on me.

        "What is it, Seaweed Brain?"

"Annabeth, this is serious..." Percy looked around, then locked the door and closed the blinds.

"Percy, no one is trying to read your lips from outside," I laughed.

"I think Logan snuck into Sophia's room last night."

"And what made you think that?"

"Luke's tip," Percy balled his fists. "Logan's up to no good. I just knew it! I'm going to call off the wedding."

"Percy, do we really have to have the talk? Didn't they teach you anything at school?" Percy's face turned bright red.

"Ew! Annabeth, they- Sophia and Logan- in our house- that's disgusting! That's- that's- that's-"

"Repulsive? No, it's not, Percy... this conversation can take a very awakward turn if you pursue it, and I'm not letting you publically or privately humiliate our daughter!" I paused for breath, waiting for Percy's nostrils to start de-flaring. "Or our to-be son-in-law."

"Don't call him that! They're not getting married! And why don't you seem surprised? Sophia's never acted like this before!" Percy looked at me, and I knew he could see right through me. The flaw to every perfect plan. "You've known!"

I gulped hard. "Yeah... Well, Thalia took Sophia and I out for drinks-"

        "SHE DID WHAT?"

"And then Sophia had way too much to drink-"

        "THALIA GOT SOPHIA DRUNK?"

        "And then Sophia told me-"

"Wait... let me get this straight... Sophia got drunk, engaged, and slept in the same bed as a boy?"

"Who happens to be her fiancé-"

"That doesn't matter! What a disappointment!"

"What? That our daughter is turning out like us?" I threw my hands up in defeat. "Percy, please, just listen. We have to be our kids side- I mean, it's not like Sophia's pregnant-"

        "As far as we know-"

"But look how Paige and Thalia handled that one? You have to be there for her, Percy. She needs our approval to be truly happy. I mean, the boys might not care as much, but the girls, especially Lena and Sophia? They really need you to believe in them, Percy, like you always have."

"I do believe in them!" He protested. "But what if I completely disagree?"

I glared at him. "Percy, go downstairs and congratulate Sophia and Logan on their engagement and maybe I'll forgive you for eating that apple pie yesterday. In fact, maybe I'll make you another."

        Percy moaned. "Fine. Mom."

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

Hey guys! I thought I needed to finish off what I started yesterday, so here is the continued chapter! I really hope you enjoy!

I'm feeling so much better today than yesterday, but staying home from school allowed me to finish The Prisoner of Azkaban (Harry Potter) and it was a great re-read. Absolutely love that series!

I have a bit more homework to do, but I've been pretty on top of things, and I think I only have to make up a French quiz tomorrow, which should be easy.

How have all of you been? I'm sure you can tell I'm in a much better mood than yesterday, juding by the length of my Author's Note. I can't believe this is the 86th chapter! That's crazy, not only because I've written 86 chapters, but also because I only have 14 chapters left of this story! THAT is the truly crazy part. I'm going to be super duper emotional on the 100th chapter, and you can expect a super duper long Author's Note then too. But because I can't let anything go completely, there will be a sequel FOR SURE, and will be in 3rd person, just to challenge myself. I felt like I'd be restricting the story by making it in one character's POV, because I want to see the future of all 5 Jackson kids. This story will end up so extremely complicated! I already have a bajillion files on it, and they keep getting bigger.

The weather is finally getting warmer here, and since its spring, I'm looking forward to some sunny days.

QUESTION OF THE CHAPTER:

How long should Logan and Sophia wait before they get married? (like, should they get married next chapter, or 100th chapter, or... when? LMK!)

XOXO
