Chapter 4 {Pain Of Betrayal}

Betrayal is the most painful experience amongst every type of pain a human being could possibly feel — especially if you have been betrayed by your loved ones.

However, even pain lasts for a period of time — maybe, years, days, seconds or minutes — but it always makes sure to come back again whenever it gets the chance to. The heart cries its tears out loud enough for the person to hear, but for the rest of the world to ignore its cries for help.

This was Layla's case, she felt her heart shatter inside of betrayal, but only she could feel the earthquake inside her, which lead to the ignorance of every single human being — even her family.

Layla threw the dead body, she had just killed, to the floor with a thud. Her gloves were already almost covered in blood from the lives she took today, but none of them managed to put out the fire of great vengeance. She swore to herself that she would get her revenge one way or another — even if it took her life — she would die peacefully.

She sighed as took off her gloves before throwing them in the garbage can, she gave her weapons she had to Dimitri's man, the other man made sure that she wasn't possessing any weapons, because she still wasn't allowed to possess a gun, but they made sure to show her how to kill professionally and torturously in the same time, which was too much to comprehend at first for her. However, after everything she had to go through that comprehension process, it only started to turn her more cold and emotionless than ever.

She turned around to see Alejandro leaning against the wall of the basement, where all the killings were done, Alejandro smirked as she looked at him blankly. "Great seeing you again, princesa." He said with his noticeably Spanish action, which almost every women could get turned on of, but this wasn't the case for Layla this time.

She started to loathe everyone, her trust in people faded away as she kept on living with people who had certain plans of breaking her completely, but Layla never felt like giving up in front of them — even though she tried to kill herself several times, but in the end, she failed at every attempt miserably. That little therapist in her head always seemed to destroy her death wish, which angered her most of the time.

"So, what brings you here?" She asked as she cleaned the blood away from her arms, "I've some business with Dimitri... And, I wanted to have a little chat with you." He explained, making her wonder what he wanted to talk to about. However, her look always remained blank. "Well, how flattering. If you could excuse me, I've to go." She started to walk off, but she was interrupted as he gripped her bicep, Layla tried to push him away, but realization hit her like a huge bus.

She closed her eyes tightly as she started panting, he held her body between the wall and his body as she watched her trembling form. "Go ahead, I—I've nothing to lose." She whispered, he looked at her with a confused look for a moment, wondering what she could have possibly gone through to be this scared of a man's touch. Little did he know that this wasn't even the beginning of chapter one of her story.

Her eyes slowly fluttered open, which widened in a second as she noticed the closeness to him, she got out of his grip immediately, sending him back to reality. Layla walked off as fast as she could, making Alejandro stare at her trace left, he could sense that she carried a deeper story within her.

Layla started to run to the restroom as she felt the air being suffocated out of her lungs, she noticed that it was another panic attack, barging into the restroom, she gripped onto the sink as she looked at the mirror. She trembled more and more as she panted, trying to breathe in and out evenly, which was really difficult for her as she felt the anxiety rise to a whole another level as the seconds passed.

Tears made its way down her eyes as every memory of Dimitri raping her appeared to the center of her mind, her cries turned to silent sobs, her sobs turning to panting again as she trembled, trying to regain her balance, she fell on her knees as the nauseating feeling became stronger.

Suddenly, she felt arms wrap around her waist, she flinched away but the arms held her tightly against a male chest, "L—let m—me go!" She sobbed again, the fear doubled as she wondered who held her like that. "Shh, just breathe in and out, love. Calm down, there is nothing to be scared about I am here now." She heard Alejandro's voice, realizing that he was holding her against his chest.

The tightness in her chest formed to normal slowly as Alejandro guided her breaths and whispered soothing words to her ear, tears kept on flooding down her eyes as she evened her breaths finally. They both sat on the ground for a while, Alejandro listened to her silent crying as he hugged her, a sad smile lingering on his lips as he reminisced a memory.

"T—thank you." She whispered softly, wiping her tears away as she got up slowly, but her tears still kept on coming back uncontrollably as she wiped them away desperately. "No problem." He replied, Layla scrunched her eyebrows together before she spoke, "W—Why did you even h—help me in the first place?"

"I don't know." He replied coldly, but Layla knew there was something behind his coldness. However, she did not question him further. Wiping away her tears again, she thanked him again and left him standing there once again, she ran up to her room fast.

Closing the door behind her, she leaned against it as she released the breath that she was holding. She felt like she did something incredibly wrong, she felt like she should have ran away when she felt his presence, but her heart screamed at her, reminding her that he was no threat to her — yet her mind always knew people as a threat all her life.

She walked into the shower as she stripped out of her clothes, making sure the door was locked, she let out a sigh as she let the hot water run down her body. The water became red under her as it washed away the blood from the lives she took earlier, tears and water mixed her face as she cried silently, wanting to escape the hell she was in.

Stepping out of the shower, she wrapped a towel around her body. She did not even spare a glance at the mirror, she was disgusted of her body after everything, she hated every bit of herself more and more as time passed. She was angry at herself for letting him do the things he had done to her, hell, all the nightmares she has only consisted of the memories.

She changed into a black turtleneck pullover and black skinny denim jeans, knowing that she would be around Dimitri in the house, she chose to dress simple and black was always her favorite color — even though some people deny black being a color.

She brushed her hair and let her black locks down all the way down her back, she dried her hair as she examined her face in the mirror. Layla hated to look at herself, but this time, she felt like getting a glimpse of herself. Her eyes had lost its alive look, being replaced by a lifeless blank look, it completed the empty look on her face.

She turned around, closing her eyes tightly as she felt the anxiety rush through her veins swiftly, she untied the knot forming in her chest as she exhaled and inhaled evenly in attempt to calm herself down. Luckily, she did succeed.

She walked down into the kitchen, it was empty to her luck, she turned on the coffee machine and put a mug in its place. As the coffee machine did its job, she took out chocolate chip cookies, which were her favorites since she was a little child. She smiled softly as she reminisced her childhood memories, her smile did fade away fast as the little amount of happy memories were replaced with the bad ones, she sighed deeply as she brushed it off, taking her mug and the cookies, she plopped on the chair in in front of the table.

"There you are, princesa." She heard Alejandro's voice ringing in her ears, which made her look up to him, he plopped on the other chair across hers, he took a cookie from the plate, she furrowed her eyebrows as she took a sip from her coffee.

"Are you okay?" He asked with concern, replacing his playful tone with concern, appreciation filled Layla's features as she nodded. "Um... I know we don't know each other well, but what happened to cause you a panic attack? Why were you so scared?" He asked her, her eyes went wide for a second. However, she still knew that he'd ask questions sooner or later.

"I don't think you should be so concerned about me, but I still thank you for helping me." She replied curtly with a monotone voice, making him furrow his eyebrows together.

"Look, I know that you have a hard time here. Dimitri is merciless and he doesn't care about anyone but himself, but I can help you escape from this hell—"

Layla stood up, cutting him off as she placed her mug in the sink, "You mafia people are all merciless, so you don't need to tell me that you are any different from them, because you are not and you will never be. I don't need your help, but I do owe you one, you've my full gratitude for helping me through my panic attack. However, I am not stupid and I can look after myself, so you don't ever need to worry about me. I am no one anyway." She walked off immediately as she finished talking to him, a glimpse of hope filled her chest as she hoped to escape this hell. However, she needed a good plan to escape, she had to gain their trust more one by one in order to get out of this hell. She'd do whatever it takes to escape — even if she'd die in the end, she'd die as a free woman.

Alejandro sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose, "You aren't no one princesa, I promise to help you whatever it takes." He whispered into nothing.
