Sunday, two weeks later

Annabeth

Today is another one of The Savior's matches. I watch the whole thing with mild interest, except for when he swims. At this point, Piper has lost her obsession. Piper told me that according to the media, The Savior has found a soulmate; or so says a local coffee shop waiter.By the way, her and Jason are officially soulmates. They have beautiful tattoos.

Anyways, Piper told me that according to the media, The Savior has found a soulmate; or so says a local coffee shop waiter.

I really hope that man isn't who I think he is, because if so, I might need to have a word with him. I think The Savior and I are.... dating? Oh gods, I don't know... 

We've been getting to know each other a lot better in just these two weeks, but he still won't tell me his true identity. 

He keeps encouraging me to stand up to my step mom, but I am too scared. College is the most important thing to me. I don't know what to do. 

After the meet, the Savior and I go watch a movie together. It is Peter Johnson and the Ocean of Beasts. It isn't very good, not nearly as good as the book, but it was all that was on at the theatre we went to. I don't think The Savior has ever heard of this series, so I am a bit worried that he will think this movie is great. That might be a deal breaker with the thing that is going on between us.

When it is over and we are walking to his car, I ask, "So, Savior, what is your favorite character in that movie."

"Well, that movie....wasn't....umm...it.. wasn't great..." He stutters.

I smile and breathe out a laugh, "Oh, thank the gods, I thought you might like it. Well, you have to have a favorite character though, one you can most relate to, I mean assuming that you have never read the books-"

"I've read this books!" the Savior interrupts. "I mean, it was hard because I'm dyslexic, but it is a really good series. My favorite character is Peter, hands down. I would be a son of Poseidon too, you know, with the swimming and all. What about you?"

"Wow," I say shocked, "I didn't realize you had read them. Sorry. My favorite character is definitely Alissabeth and I would be a daughter of Athena too. Did you ever notice that her name is similar to mine? My friend Percy too, he is actually a lot like Peter."

"Huh, that is weird. I wonder how that happened. Maybe this book was written about u--you guys in another dimension and when it was put into our world, it was changed so that the main characters would have no idea it is really about them. What if W--YOU GUYS are the main characters?!" The Savior says.

We both stop in our tracks. Then, we burst out laughing, "That is so silly, no way!!" I say.

We walk to his car laughing like idiots the whole way.

I arrive home only to see my step mother staring at me. "Hello, dear." she says with a maniac look in her eyes. "I've decided that since you are old enough to be going around with guys, then you are old enough to start working. Luckily, my boss just had a job opening for a cleaning lady at a 1am to 4am shift. I already told him you'll be happy to take it."

I look at her in shock. "If you take this, I promise I will stop hitting you," she says, "Why should I punish a girl who works hard? If you do a good job and keep this job until you graduate, then you are guaranteed a full ride scholarship to the best college in the state."

I stare at her and think for a moment. Maybe this could be good, my step mom wouldn't hit me anymore, I would get a little extra money to put away for after and during college, what is the worst thing that could come out of this?

"Well?" My step mom says.

"I'll do it. Thank you, Mrs. Chase." I say, bowing my head.

"You're welcome, Annabeth." She grabs my chin and makes me look into her eyes. "Annabeth, you can never say I am unfair to you. I only do this for your own good. You will benefit greatly from all of the wisdom I've given you over the years. Now, get ready, you start tonight."

"But its a school night!" I exclaim.

"So?" My step mom says, ice lining her voice. 

"Nothing ma'am, I'll be ready by 12:30." I say in defeat.

"Good." My step mom says, "I'm proud of you, Annabeth."

I nod and walk away. When I get to my room, a shiver goes down my spine. Something was wrong with my step mom. She was being way too nice. Something is wrong.

The next day

Percy's POV

I walk past Annabeth on my way to my first class of the day and see bags under her eyes. I stop her and ask, "Annabeth, what's wrong, you look like you haven't slept a wink!"

"I'm okay. I was up late........studying......" She says.

I want to press and get the truth out of her, but the look in her eyes makes me say, "Okay, take care of yourself." And walk to class.

The first few periods pass uneventfully and when lunch comes, I am relieved. Leo comes running up to me, a huge smile on his face. "Percy!" He yells.

"What?" I ask, "calm down, dude! Deep breaths!"

He rolls his eyes. "There is a new girl here and I think she totally likes me!"

"Suuuuurrrrreeee, bro, but good for you." I say, rolling my eyes.

"Seriously!!!" Leo says. "Look!! She's coming now!!"

I look to the cafeteria doors and see a girl walk through. My eyes widen and my jaw drops.

"Crap." I say aloud.
