Piper liked to think she and Annabeth were good friends.
She believed she knew the girl pretty well––after the whole life threatening, save-the-world-quest fiasco, they'd grown closer and shared things they wouldn't have during Piper's first weeks at Camp Halfblood.
So when Annabeth wasn't hanging with Percy or designing for Olympus, they'd get together for some girl time. Piper always enjoyed the time they spent together, but she could never shake the feeling that Annabeth was distant when it was just the two of them. She tried to make her as comfortable as possible, but it was downright awkward to try.
Annabeth was the levelheaded, self controlled, strong, stubborn daughter of Athena. She was like--the leader, the older girl Piper looked to for things like geometry homework all the way to boy advice. At first, she had found it weird when Annabeth started talking more with her, but she understood why. She didn't really know what went on when Annabeth and Percy had fallen into Tartarus, because they didn't really bring it up much, but it obviously wasn't healthy for them to deal with it on their own.
Piper tended to blurt things out and speak impulsively, but Annabeth had assured her that it was okay. So they'd grown closer through little hangout sessions and girl talks. It was now at a point that Piper considered the blonde her best friend. Maybe even an older sister figure. She sure as heck considered Percy her brother, so it fit nicely.
Tonight was a Saturday. What would otherwise be a day spent with their boyfriends was now a girl's day, since Percy and Jason had gone to help Leo and Calypso with something important. Piper's goal?
To have fun.
They both needed a break from everything, and what better way to do that than pizza, face masks, and Netflix binge sessions?
"Dutch? Or French?"
"I'm telling you, my hair's too crazy for any of those fancy things. I can barely get it to cooperate with a regular braid."
Piper laughed. "I can do it. We're gonna go for a french."
Annabeth shrugged, scrolling through shows on the laptop. "Suit yourself."
The two girls sat in silence for a few minutes as Piper figured out how to braid her curls and Annabeth searched for a good show.
"You know, Percy braids my hair sometimes," Annabeth murmured, typing something into the search bar.
"Percy knows how to braid hair?"
"Yeah. Only regular ones, though. He does it for Estelle sometimes."
"Aw."
After they'd properly binged for a couple of hours, Piper ordered a pizza. While they waited for it to come, Annabeth brought out Mario Cart. They were both super competitive, and the daughter of Aphrodite had gotten used to losing often.
When she did win, though, Annabeth usually promised a rematch. This time, she strategically changed her car.
Annabeth never did that. She always made the right choice first, and she always stuck with it. Piper smirked and started a new race, in which, of course, she was beaten in.
The doorbell's chime ended their little tournament, and they raced to the door to accept the pizza and pay their deliverer and savior. To Piper's surprise, she won the race to the foyer and had to wait for Annabeth to catch up and pay.
When they had each taken their portion of olive and pepperoni pizza, they sat down to play a board game Piper had never heard of. It was fun, and she found she was actually okay at it. Annabeth ate her pizza and played halfheartedly, and she kept glancing away during Piper's turns.
At the exact moment Piper played the winning move, the front door could be heard opening. Annabeth didn't even glance down at the board in her rush to stand and greet the boys.
Piper laughed a little and followed after her, nodding her head at Jason as soon as she could see him. She looked over to greet Percy, but his eyes were locked onto Annabeth, and his brows were furrowed.
Jason slipped his shoes off and came in, kissing Piper's cheek. "We're back. I smell pizza."
She laughed and grabbed his arm, leading him into the kitchen where their leftover pizza sat. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Percy taking Annabeth aside, and she tilted her head a little.
As she placed a slice of pizza onto a paper plate, she could hear Percy asking Annabeth if she was okay, and what was wrong. Then Annabeth sighed and wrapped her arms around him in a hug, burying her head into his chest.
Piper and Jason plopped down onto the couch, and she could see Annabeth looking up and murmuring a few words to Percy, to which he nodded and kissed the top of her head.
Piper turned away and leaned into Jason, realizing she'd misread a lot of things tonight. There had been something on Annabeth's mind that was bothering her, and she hadn't picked up on it.
It was a wide-known fact that Percy and Annabeth were meant for each other, but the two never failed to unintentionally prove it to her – they really were perfect together.
