The Hateful 'Gone'
I don't know, I'm just in a Thalia mood right now.
Gone.
Gone.
Gone.
The word was stupid; Gone. It was unmovable, irreplaceable, and heartbreaking, which made it even worse.
That's why it seemed to repeat in her head over and over again. Because she hated it. Because it made her angry.
"He's gone..."
"She's gone..."
Never coming back.
Never to be seen again.
Gone...
First, it was Jason. He wasn't really gone, but close. She thought he was, but he was still alive. That was good.
Then Luke...
Luke...
He had been her best friend for a while. Her companion. Her comfort while she grieved over Jason's death.
He was gone even before he died... Long gone...
Then it was Annabeth... She died soon after the war. It seemed wrong that she'd die the way she did, but that's what happened. The girl that had no childhood, that was always neck-deep in a war, didn't die the way she'd always thought she would. She didn't go out in a blaze of glory like the soldier in her dreamed. She was hit by a drunk driver.
But with her, there was hope, a shining light in the tunnel. The beam grew brighter and brighter, hope covering every sense of worry until she was sure the girl would come out of the coma. Then the train sped forwards and extinguished every snippet of hope.
She could still see Percy's pale, agonized face as he waited for the girl he loved to just wake up...
She never did...
She was gone...
Just like that, she had already lost the three most important people in her life once. Two of them never to be seen again besides in death.
Percy went soon after. He survived for only weeks after her death, drowning his depression in training and anger. He cursed the gods so much that Zeus almost blasted him off of the planet, he blamed them that she was gone. That after everything they'd been through, she would never come back. And they'd never find each other like they always had. Not unless he did something about it...
He was gone, just like Luke, before he had even died. He had left when Annabeth had died, leaving only a shell of the man that used to bring so much joy to the darkest situations.
Then it was a while before death plowed her over once more. She hadn't been close to Reyna, but it still hurt when the girl had died fighting a monster. Gone.
Then Leo, monster attack. Gone.
Calypso retreated back to her island, her curse broken, as was her heart.
Nico di Angelo would never let death take him unwillingly. When he and Will found the time right, they retreated to Hades who sent them straight to Elysium.
Piper and Jason were still together after all those years. Well, almost all of the couples in the Seven stayed together. Except, Percy and Annabeth, who were separated by death for a while before being reunited again.
Frank and Hazel were together until the end as well. They travelled the world, and Hazel calmly walked into Elysium after Frank's life stick burned out and joined the rest of their friends.
Jason and Piper died from old age, somehow being able to survive through years of being powerful demigods on their own. They had to retreat to Camp Jupiter after a while, though, as they were both getting too tired to continuously fight monsters. They died peacefully. Gone.
Gone.
Gone.
She hated the word, yes.
Because it was the one thing she couldn't be. She was immortal, doomed to watch death after death as her heart slowly crumbled away and she was left as nothing but an emotionless girl who had surrounded herself with tall walls.
Thalia hated that word.
Gone.
Gone.
Gone.
Hated it.
So that's why she learned to conquer it.
