I can't anymore...I just can't
Annabeth sobbed into her pillow. She didn't know how much time had passed. She was desperately sad, trying to feel better was hard, when the one you loved most is gone, and it is all your fault.
She and Percy. Percy and her. Seaweed Brain, Wise girl. But they weren't each other's any more.
It started with fights, little things. Yelling stupid things at each other. Getting angry over the smallest things.
Then nights where they would collapse into each other's arms and Apologize, sobbing and saying "I forgive you". And then sealing that promise with a kiss.
Percy was not one to hold a grudge, but...
He was not one to forget either.
He remembered all of the hurtful, painful things Annabeth said.
If you cut a heart shape into tissue paper
Then crinkle it in your hand
Then you smooth it out, you can still see the crinkles. They will never truly go away or fade.
That is how Percy feels about him an Annabeth. He loves her. But she has crinkled his heart too many times for it to ever heal. She has even torn some holes into it.
Annabeth feels guilty. She has heard that it helps to tell someone about what you are guilty of. But everyone knows. She does not feel better. She feels worse.
Percy gave up immortality for her. He fell into Tartarus for her. And she repaid him by smashing his heart to smithereens.
At first, she liked thinking about that. If Percy did everything for her, then surely he would overlook the time when she said she hated them and broke up with him. He would come and they would be a happy couple again...
But then...
Percy never called. He never knocked on her front door. She remembered the time when she broke the news to him. She had gotten a new job. She wanted to take it... But it was in Connecticut. Percy was living in their house in New Rome.
Tears had fell from his eyes. But he smiled at her and hugged her, "Whatever makes you happy". He said softly.
Now Annabeth felt that there was more than one meaning of that.
They had called eachother. But one time when he called. She was in a bad mood.
One of her designs had been rejected and a client called her mean and a Jerk, (and some other things but this is strictly PG).
He asked how her job was going...
And she flipped. They had always ended their calls in a fight. But Annabeth had never said she hated him before.
He called again. Annabeth was desperate, she wanted her Seaweed Brain back. But he just said.
"I can't any more...I just can't. You are so difficult-".
"Percy". Annabeth pleaded.
"Don't be like that 'beth. You said it yourself, you hate me. Goodbye".
"Wait, Percy, No. I-", he hung up on her.
now...
Now Annabeth was beginning to think, that Percy didn't love her anymore.
That was more Painful then going through Tartarus. At least Percy loved her then
