Rule Number 35, Section 2(*)
A/N: This is my first Esther/Kirstin one-shot! Thank you to Captain_Potato_Eu for this request!
(WARNINGS: mental illnesses, suicide mentions, death)
Rule Number 35, Section 2:
No personal relationships with the patients. Relationships with said patient(s) will result in a write-up or termination of the job, depending on what occurs.
Esther sighed to herself as she read over the rule continuously. Working as a therapist was a dream of hers ever since she was a little girl, but she never knew how strict it can be working as one. Rules were and are essential to the mechanisms to being a therapist, even though she didn't agree with them.
Scott, a childhood friend, met his husband Mitch through therapy sessions. Mitch has severe anxiety, PTSD, and a bit of a stutter(a/n: What Happened in Between teas.;D), but the older male helped him through it. They're happily married with an adopted child. Scott didn't lose his job though. His boss accepted the relationship and actually officiated the wedding. They are possibly the sweetest couple to ever walk upon this world.
Esther sighed to herself once more as she set down the rule book. She clicked on her intercom, hoping that someone will answer.
"Yes, Esther?" A voice came out, making Esther smile.
"Is there any appointments today, Kevin?"
"There's one for a Kirstin Maldonaldo. I'll call you when she comes in."
"Thank you," Esther called back, turning the intercom off. She sat back, looking around the room. A picture of her and brother at her graduation sat in front of her. She smiled at it and flinched when the intercom made a sudden noise. She quickly pressed the button, brushing back her hair. "Yes, Kevin?"
"She's here," Kevin answered, making Esther nod. He then let out a chuckle, catching her attention. "She's cute too. You might like her."
"Rule Number 35, Section 2," Esther reminded her secretary hastily, making him laugh. She rolled her eyes yet smiled at Kevin's infectious childlike laugh. "Send her in."
"Okay." The intercom then went off and Esther for up from her chair, putting a chair out for her newest patient. She heard the door open, but she didn't look up. "Sorry, I was just taking the chair out for you."
"You're okay," a melodious voice spoke up. The voice was soft like silk and a bit squeaky but not the annoying kind of squeaky. It reminded Esther of Mitch's voice. "Take your time."
Esther nodded as she looked up at the patient and her heart almost stopped. Kevin was wrong. She isn't cute.
She is gorgeous.
With short blond hair that went above her shoulders and hazel eyes, a woman at about 5'4 stood in front of the therapist. She had to be at least twenty three. Her clothes consisted of a white short-sleeved blouse and leggings with an addition of black high heels. An eyebrow piercing was present and she wore minimal makeup. She is the epitome of beauty.
"Oh, yeah," Esther finally spoke, trying to tear her attention of the Disney-like woman in front of her. The therapist showed her the chair and she sat down. Esther then say in her own chair, looking at the papers in front of her. "Kirstin, I understand that you have Bipolar Disorder and depression. Have you've been taking medicine for your depression?"
"Nope," Kirstin answered, shaking her head. Esther then looked up, confused. "I don't need medicine. I'm dying anyways."
"What do you mean?" Esther asked, confused. Kirstin sat back and looked at her, acting like she expected the therapist to know the answer. "You have severe depression. If you don't take your medicine, it could lead to suicidal tendencies. I don't want that."
"So?" Kirstin answered, crossing her arms. Esther was about to answer, but she shut her up immediately. "Just because I have depression doesn't mean I want to kill myself. It simply means that I have long term sadness. Here's the deal though. I never cut, I never starved myself, I never wanted to jump of some fifty foot high building. I just lay in bed all day, that's it. I'm not motivated to do anything. I didn't even want to come here today, but my friend forced me to do so. Guess what? That does not equal suicidal tendencies. So, Miss. Therapist Lady, take some notes. Depression does not mean I want to kill myself."
Esther was about to fight back, but she couldn't. Kirstin had a point. The therapist sighed to herself as she opened her notebook. She then flipped to a page labeled 'Maldonado, Kirstin' and wrote down:
Headstrong, refuses to let go of her beliefs. Hard to crack but easy to work with.

"How did you find out that you had a crush on Mitch?" Esther asked randomly one day to Scott. The blond looked up from the Grassi-Hoying child, surprise taking over his features. "How did it happen?"
She's had been seeing Kirstin for about six months now and the crush only got bigger and eventually turned into love. She knows that she can't love Kirstin, but the feeling was refusing to leave.
"Well," Scott began, putting his child down. The sweet child ran off, going off to find his other dad. "It was weird. I just remember my boss giving me a random client. I didn't want to do it at first, but he said that I will not regret taking this person in so I agreed to do so. What's the worse that could happen?
"Anyways, this beautiful and fragile male walked in. His brown eyes were the first things I noticed. He was quiet, shy. He refused to speak, but we spoke through paper. He wrote beautifully. He still does.
"Well, he came everyday. I didn't mind though. It felt nice having someone o be with. It was hard telling him that he was diagnosed with anxiety. He sighed sadly to himself and nodded. That's when he began to speak and I fell in love right away.
"He had a stutter that added more to his personality. I fell for him and my he next moment, I kissed him. He kissed back and I knew in that moment that I wanted to be with him. My boss found out, but he accepted it. He's the reason we got together.
"So yeah. If this is about Kirstin, try it out. Tell her you love her, take her out, do anything! Exclaim it to the world. That's what I did with Mitch."
"What did you do?" Mitch asked, his stutter unobservable. He smiled at the female therapist. "Hi, Es. What's up?"
"Love," she answered honestly, shaking her head. She loves Kirstin.
She loves Kirstin.
She loves Kirstin.
"Guys...I love Kirstin."

The next therapy was the last one between Esther and Kirstin. The client was improving fast. Her Bipolar Disorder was determined to be borderline. Her depression became nothing. Of course, she was still depressed and she knows that it will never go away, but she is definitely better.
"Our last therapy session," Kirstin chirped happily, smiling at Esther. The therapist smiled sadly at the younger woman. "My boyfriend is coming tomorrow so I'm super excited!"
Boyfriend?
Esther's heart broke. She looked at the female in front of her. She quickly stood up and got next to Kirstin, doing something she thought she would never do.
She kissed her.
The women kissed for what seemed like forever, feeling the fireworks erupt. They finally separated, breathing heavily.
"Nobody's ever kissed me like that," Kirstin breathed out, kissing Esther again. Esther kissed back, feeling her heart burst into joy until she gets the door open and a gasp.
"Esther?!"
Her boss. Her boss just caught her. She quickly separated herself from her client.
"Avi," Esther began, putting her hands together. "Please let me love her."
"Rule 35, Section 2," her younger brother scorned her. He then shook his head. "Pack your stuff. Kirstin, please leave."
The client quickly left, not wanting to get involved. Esther glared at her brother as she threw the picture of them at the wall, making it shatter instantly. She ran out of her office and went down the stairs, getting out of the office. She saw Kirstin attempting to go into the traffic and ran faster.
"Kirstin!"
The younger woman turned to her and walked into the busy street. Esther quickly caught her, trying to protect her. The last things she felt was something hard hitting her and flying back, instantly seeing black.

Three people walked up to the graveyard, staring at the gravestone in front of them. The first person cleared their throat.
"Uh, we miss you. We know you are happier though. Stay happy, okay? We can't wait to see you again."
"Yep. We-e miss you. Shoot, so-or-Rey about my stutter. It's usually not this bad. I know that u didn't know you that much, but please know that I miss you."
"I loved working for you. I got a new job. I work as a cello teacher. Avi and I still talk. He blames himself, but he's been getting help from Scott. We miss you, Es and Kirst. Stay happy."
Scott, Kevin, and Mitch walked off, leaving the graveyard. The gravestone stood there innocently, holding two names:
Rest In Piece
Esther Kaplan and Kirstin Maldonaldo
The Therapist and the Client
