Seventy-One

Okay guys! I know I've been away for awhile, but here's like 2 or 3 updates in one to make up for my time away.

Enjoy :)

"Darrien. I need to talk to you, honey." Connie says stumbling into the kitchen.

Darrien turns around and sighs as he knows she's already been drinking this morning.

"You gonna yell at me some more?" He asks annoyed.

"On the contrary, I want to apologize for my earlier manner. It was unnecessarily cruel." Connie says.

She moves closer to Darrien and places her hand on his shoulder.

"You know, you've been going through a lot of stuff lately, so-"

"Yeah, it's true, I have, but so have you, here by my side. Oh, and don't think it hasn't gone unnoticed or unappreciated."

Connie gives Darrien a soft kiss on the cheek.

"You know, in many ways you are a fine man, Darrien. So, sit down, baby. I want to ask you something." Connie continues.

He obeys and quickly sits down at the kitchen table with Connie right across from him.

"What do you want to ask me?"

"Will you marry me?"

Darrien laughs. "Marry you?"

"Listen to me. There's going to be a child. And I want to bring that child into this home and raise it as my own." Connie explains.

He face goes from happy to confused as he has no clue what Connie is talking about.

Has she lost her mind?

"What child?"

"Our child! Or it could be. We could be a family. I won't make the same mistakes that I made the last time. You would be a wonderful father."

Darrien quickly rises from his chair and paces back and forth.

Be a father?

How could he support a child working at the corner store making little money.

It was all crazy talk!

He was sure Nicole's passing was causing Connie to talk so crazy.

"Father? Whoa! Um, I'm not ready to be a father." Darrien says.

"Oh, but you are. I've seen how you were with Nikki and the dogs." Connie says pleading with Darrien.

"With Nikki and the dogs, it-"

Darrien stops to think about his modeling and acting career he's been trying to get started for the past few years.

Having a baby will change all of that.

"What about my career?"

"Your what?"

"My career, you know. Maybe...I don't know. Maybe we should wait and let me get myself established and then we could do whatever, you know?" Darrien explains.

Connie laughs in Darrien's face breaking his heart.

"What career? What? This dream you have of appearing half naked in your skivvies sixty feet high above Times Square!?"

"I don't know why that's so funny to you."

"I know that dream. I had that dream! I was gonna be a big star, and, baby, if it didn't happen for me, it is not going to happen for you." Connie shouts.

Darrien looks at Connie with tears filling his eyes.

Just because the dream to be a big star didn't happen for her doesn't mean it's not going to happen for him.

"Why are you being so mean?"

"I am being honest!"

"No, you're being mean."

"A lean torso in this town is a dime a dozen, baby, and that's all you've got. I'm offering reality, community property, a chance to be somebody, a father. I mean, look at you. What are you now? You're nothing."

Darrien paces back and forth some more as he is now becoming furious with Connie.

He doesn't need this kind of negativity and toxicity in his life.

"No, I am something. And just because you say that I'm not gonna make it doesn't mean it's true!"

Connie laughs in his face again and screams at the top of her lungs.

"God, how could I have ever thought you could be a father? You are not even a man."

Connie then gets right up in Darrien's face talking down to him as if he were a child.

He grabs her arms forcefully trying to push her into the counter she he could hit her.

Luckily she's quickly gets out of his grip and pushes him back.

"Don't you dare lay a hand on me. You'd better be careful. You know why? Because the last man who thought that he could strike me came to a very unpleasant end, and he was a man." Connie explains getting right back in his face again.

Darrien steps back, takes his coat and storms right out the back door.

Connie flinches at the sound of the door slamming but doesn't move from where she's standing.

Darrien looks at the house one last time from the outside and continues walks and doesn't look back.

Little did Darrien know, later that day, his life would come to a gruesome and tragic end and his mutilated body would be find in the same way the Black Delia's body was found.

Cut in half and a grin carved into his face from ear to ear.

Nel is finally unchained form her bed at the hospital and can walk around but only in her room.

She stands by the small window in her room, cradling her pregnant stomach looking out the window wishing she was out of her already.

All Nel could think about is what Mike said to her the other day.

What was Mike talking about?

She has never had an affair with anyone.

Sure she had dreams about sleeping with other people outside the marriage, but she never acted on any of those dreams or thoughts.

Nel lays around her room for days, hours thinking about everything and how much she just wanted to be rid of this place.

Finally, she gets an unexpected visitor.

"Knock, knock." Connie says walking in with a bouquet of flowers.

Nel sighs as she is actually relived to see Connie for once.

"My dear, look at you. Even this hideous place can't dim your charming, girlish spirit." Connie says with a smile.

"Hello, Connie. What a surprise." Nel says emotionless.

"Well, I hope it is a good one." Connie laughs.

"You know, I've been thinking about you so much and about this ordeal that you've been through. And being pregnant on top of everything else. My goodness, that poor baby." She continues.

"Babies. It's twins." Nel says.

Connie laughs and waves a hand at her playfully.

"Oh, of course. Babies."

She places a hand on her face in awe of the thought of having twins.

Connie always wishes she had a perfect child instead of the 'monsters' she says she was cursed with.

Truth was, she was jealous of Nel and her family because its something that she always longed for.

"And is everything all right with the babies?"

"They're growing very fast. I can't believe how much food I've been consuming. Even in here, I'm just ravenous." Nel explains looking down at her large belly.

"That's a good thing. Oh, Nel, Nel, I want you to know that I intend to be there for you, whatever help you need. I mean, babies are my thing after all. I have a special gift. And I've been a single mother. I mean, I know how we tell ourselves that we don't need a man. We can do it alone. But the secret, Nel? The secret is community. Sisterhood." Connie explains as she takes a seat across the bed from Nel.

Nel doesn't know what to think.

She thinks she can raise Mitch and the twins on her own without the help of Mike or anyone, but she also feels like she's in a downward spiral and can't bring herself out of it.

With Connie's sudden interest in wanting to help with the babies, makes Nel suspicious, like Connie has a plan to take the twins away from her somehow.

"Connie, I don't want to be rude or seem ungrateful. I am just so tired, and I just, probably from the meds, I need to nap." Nel explains trying to get Connie to leave.

"Of course, honey. Oh, I'll just disappear." Connie chuckles.

As she gets up and collects her purse, she turns back to Nel.

"Nel, you know, I know the pain of being doubted by everyone around you. It ravages the soul."

She turns her head away from Connie and lets her eyes fill up with tears.

"Connie. I was raped. I didn't hallucinate any of it."

Connie quickly walks back over to Nel and embraces her in a tight hug.

"Well, of course not. Oh, honey, I never doubted it for a minute."

"Please don't tell anybody that I told you because I need for them to think that I'm coming to my senses so that I can get out of here." Nel quickly explains.

"Of course. You poor thing. What you've been through."

Mike sits in the living room of the house and purposely sets of the alarms so Todrick would show up to the house.

He sits in his chair waiting for a cigarette in hand for Todrick to come bursting through the front doors any second.

Just then, Todrick rushing into the house and into the living room to find Mike sitting there with the remote to the alarm in his hand.

Mike shuts of the alarm and sets the remote down.

"You didn't have to trigger the alarm system to get me over here." Todrick says.

"I've been racking my brains trying to figure it out. I gotta hand it to you both. It was a terrific cover." Mike says.

Todrick shrugs in confusion.

"I'm lost here."

"Where'd you meet her? At Whole Foods? At the gym?"

"I installed your security system, remember?"

"We moved here in early fall. You met Nel...whenever. Started having an affair. Got her pregnant."

"What?" Todrick says.

Mike chuckles as he think Todrick is playing dumb now.

"She's having twins, and only one of them is mine." Mike explains.

Todrick laughs at how stupid Mike is being.

He doesn't really think he would have an affair with Nel knowing she's a married woman, does he?

"Ah. okay. So I guess the other one must be mine." Todrick laughs.

"Look, I'm not asking you for child support. In fact, you're not even gonna see this baby. I just want to hear it form you, man to man." Mike says in anger standing up.

Todrick laughs again.

"All right. Man to man. Hear this, Mike. If that was my baby, you couldn't keep me away. But the sad fact is, is that I'm shooting blanks. You can ask my ex-wife. We tried for five years." Todrick explains walking closer to Mike.

Mike looks him up and down in disgust.

"All it takes is on good swimmer." Mike says.

"Look, I don't know Nel that well. But clearly she has been a very busy girl."

"Hey, don't talk about my wife like that. You don't know her." Mike whispers.

"And you do? You called her a whore and a liar. That was just in the last five minutes. Your own wife, you locked her away, Mike. And you know what? Maybe it's good. Maybe she's safer there." Todrick says.

Mike just stands there speechless and lets him walk out of the house without another word.

**

Mike runs through the house looking for the rubber man mask that Nel says she was attacked with and tries to piece things together.

He's finally starting to realize putting Nel in that hospital was the worse thing he could have ever done to her.

Nel has been telling the truth all along about how someone was in the house dressed in that rubber suit and raped her one night.

A young Angelica then walks by Mike and goes to leave out the door.

Off the corner of his eye he sees the young version of Angelica, but as he looks up to say something to her, he finally sees her true self.

An old lady in a long black coat with her long maids dress on.

"Congratulation, Dr. Grassi. You're finally beginning to see things as they really are."

**

Connie and Kirstin are sitting in Connie's kitchen eating cake.

Kirstin just keeps on talking while Connie is caught up in her thought about Scott and how he fathered one of Nel's unborn twins.

"What's wrong, Connie? Talk to me." Kirstin says.

"Tell me. What happens when a human copulates with someone from the spirit world?" Connie asks.

"Spirits aren't known for their potency." Kirstin says.

"Yes, but...What if there is, in fact, a conception?"

Kirstin goes silent for a moment and then looks back at Connie.

"You do know about the box. The pope's box?"

"What the hell are you talking about?" Connie asks.

"When a new pope has been chosen, and the bells of St. Peter's chime, he is shown into a small chamber next to the Sistine Chapel. They call it the room of tears, named for the sublime mixture of joy and sorrow that he must contemplate at this moment. He is brought a key to this box. It has been said that this box contains the ultimate secret. It holds the secret of the end of the world." Kirstin explains.

"Well, for Christ's sake, Kirstin Taylor, the cameras aren't rolling in here. Will you just cut to the chase?" Connie asks impatiently.

"This piece of paper reveals the precise nature of the Antichrist. 'A child born of human and spirit will usher in the end of times.' Its the essence of evil. A perversion of the immaculate conception." Kirstin explains further.

Connie looks at her wit fear in her eyes.

"What are you talking about?"

"Oh, come on, honey. The Holy Ghost merely whispered in the Virgin Mary's ear, and she begat the son of God. If the devil's going to use a human womb for his spawn, he's going to want a little more bang for his buck."

Connie can't believe what she is hearing.

Did the devil really use her son to impregnate Nel with Satan's spawn?
