Chapter 2: Letters To The Soul
It was a small journey to reach the safe house. As he passed, The sound of children helping their families could be heard. This was what he fought for everyday, families like them who had no one else to rely on and the future of the next generation that would one day surpass him. Once he stepped inside,The man took off his jackal headpiece and shook his silky white hair to remove all the sand that had gotten stuck from the long journey. He slowly walked into the kitchen,Gently placing the headpiece down on the table. He finally allowed a sigh to pass through his lips as he slumped onto one of the chairs.
Several minutes passed as the man sat there, just basking in the sense of relief that the journey was over. Although he knew he had some business to take care of, his most important task was getting clean, the desert was harsh to everyone and it was very important to wash the sand away after a mission. Less those same particles become the cause of an infected wound. With a deep long sigh, he rose from his seat and went across the hall to the bathroom. The walls were a slight cream color with ancient script written across the walls, As a small toilet sat in the corner with a silver sink. As steam covered the room in a soft warm fog, there was a bucket sitting beside the pool, as a soft towel and cleaning supplies laid on a stone counter. Sighing in slight relief, he began to strip off his accessories. He First removed the long heavy necklace that partially covered his muscular chest, then he slowly removed his sash that kept sand off of his legs.
He then carefully removed his arm guards, one of which had a tattoo of a black tiger baring its snow-white fangs in the direction of an unidentified foe. The tattoo was faded but clearly well-cared for. He then finished taking off his black shorts with golden accents before entering the bath. The jackal breathed a sigh of relief and relaxed his well-toned shoulders, He took his time getting comfortable in the bath before starting. Red crest-scented shampoo and conditioner were Cyno's choice as he worked the product into his hair one after the other.
Cyno grabbed a bottle of medicated body wash and a soft cloth shortly after cleaning his hair. As he dragged the rag across his torso and down his forearms, wincing as the soap made its way into all of his previously concealed scrapes and scratches and disinfected them, he placed some soap onto it, closed the bottle, and put it back with the others. His winces evolved into the tiniest groans of discomfort whilst he began to wipe his legs with the rag after taking a moment to thoroughly wash himself off under the deep, warm water.
Cyno took a deep breath of the flowery aroma the soap he was using had before releasing it out slowly, giving his body just a moment to enjoy the relief that it was now no longer in stinging pain. To sterilize the enormously deeper scrapes and slashes across his back, he folded the rag in half. The pain during the process, became more intense than it was when he worked with his arms and legs. Cyno trembled slightly as he groaned in displeasure and uttered a few hate words. As soon as he was finished, Cyno sunk fully under the water and rinsed off the soap. As he rose back up out of the water, he wrung out the rag and set it neatly folded on the side of the deep bath, spending a few more moments relaxing in the warm water before begrudgingly climbing out.
After quickly brushing his teeth he grabbed the med kit from under the cabinet, He made his way into the master bedroom and began the tedious process of patching up the wounds that were now free of infection and debris. When he finished wrapping the wounds his back and waist were covered in medical cream and med tape, from his feet all the way to the side of his cheek was patched. Once he was sufficiently wrapped up he grabbed a pair of pajama shorts and got dressed as he tied his long white locks in a ponytail.
Before he could allow the call of sleep to get him, he walked over to the desk on the side of the room and grabbed a piece of paper to write his report for the sages. On it he described where he had found the missing scholar, the injuries he had been given which were only minor cuts on his wrists due to the rope. And a slash across the chest from his polearm. Finally how much he had confessed to having done while on the way to Aru village. Once the report was finished he quickly folded it and slipped it into the envelope required for the sages.
Once that letter was dealt with, he grabbed a small black key. The handle looked like an intricately cut Nilopalata lotus, the teeth of the key taking the form of vines. He bent down and opened the cabinet on the side of his desk. This was where all of the soul paper that belonged to the matra resided, he could see a variety of colors and styles each one different from the rest, In the land of sumeru before her passing Lesser Lord kusanali had decreed that all who bared the mark of a soulmate would be granted the privilege to communicate with them through specially designed paper that was crafted just for them through her power. He carefully picked out his own dark purple and gold paper with a small black and gold foiled envelope next to it.
"Dear Nephthys
"It's been a while hasn't it? I apologize for not reaching out earlier but work has been keeping me busy these days. How are you doing? I've been thinking about you all this time. I know it may sound wrong since I've never seen your face or even heard your voice, but I mean it. Some may say that the heat has gotten to my head and caused a sun stroke but there is no fever and I do drink lots of water like you told me to. By the way have you gotten the tcg rules yet? I heard they finally released them to the public. Have you decided on what deck to use? It would be fun to have a match together when we finally meet up. By the way did you know you're as beautiful as a jewel? Haha I can already see you blushing and trying to deny my claim but it's true you're beautiful and if anyone dares to say otherwise then they don't understand the true meaning of beauty. When we meet I'll be sure to show you just as much. For now have a candied ajilenakh nut, and I'll ca-shew later."
Sincerely yours
Ra
After he signed his letter and gently laid it out to dry, he yawned as he got up from the desk seat and rubbed his eyes. He quickly blew out the small candle ember letting the wax slowly begin to cool. When the small brush of air extinguished the tiny flame he was left in complete darkness. Smiling slightly he quickly began to get himself comfortable in the bed, and was out like a light for the rest of the evening.
