My Dearest, Peggy
'Angelica!' Eliza said, when her sister came in.
'Eliza! How's Peggy? Is she breathing, is she going to survive this?' Angelica asked. She looked really worried.
'Maybe not, I'm afraid,' Eliza answered, 'She is really sick. The doctors don't know what it is. But I'm afraid her life is in danger.'
'Can I see her? Or are there too many people?'
'No,' Eliza chuckled, 'She sent Stephen and the kids away. Philip is also waiting outside. Mom and dad aren't coming today. So we and Alex can go.'
'You let Alexander be here? Even after...' Angelica didn't finish her sentence. Eliza didn't answer, but walked to another room.
'Angelica... Eliza...' Peggy whispered. Angelica was terrified of hearing her sister's voice.
'Peggy!' She tried to hold her tears. She wrapped her arms around the weak body of her sister. Peggy's face had turned very pale. Every sign of life had left her body, but there was still one little flame of fire left, just strong enough to make her eyes glimmer in the candlelight.
'I love you,' Peggy whispered.
'We know,' Eliza interrupted her, 'We know. We love you too. Just save your strength and stay alive.'
'Peggy I'm so sorry!' Angelica said, 'I was so busy caring for Eliza, I almost forgot I also had another sister. Don't leave me Peggy! Not yet! I could have been a better sister to you! I'm so sorry Peggy. I love both of my sisters more than anything in this life, I should have cared for you equally. I would choose your happiness over mine, every time! I should have-'
'Hey!' Eliza interrupted her, 'Stop it, Peggy is trying to say something!'
'Don't blame yourself, Angelica,' Peggy said, 'You have been a wonderful sister. See you on the other side. And you too, Eliza.'
'NO!' This time it was Eliza who screamed, 'Don't leave us! We need you! I need you!' But it was too late. Peggy was dead.
Angelica stared at her dead sister in shock. This wasn't Peggy! This was a cold, distant stranger, not her sister. There was no flame keeping her alive. Eliza broke down after only one look at her dead sister. Within two seconds, she was being hugged by both Angelica and Alexander. Angelica didn't cry. She stayed strong for Eliza. But when she was alone at home, she finally let the tears go.
