𝟎: prologue
a figure stood in the shadows, watching, waiting. their remained gaze fixed intently on that of their adoration; their muse, their everything, their darling.
every breath, every movement of the other was like a melody that played only for them. every second of it filling their world with a sense of purpose and belonging that they hadn't yet felt before. to them, the world outside of this connection was nothing. a blur of meaningless faces and empty, hollow voices. all that mattered was the one before them, the one they had chosen, the one they would never, ever let go.
the love they felt was pure, undiluted, a raging fire that stopped for nothing. It was the kind of love that knew no bounds, no limits, and no sense of reason. to them, it wasn't scary and unbridled, it was love in its purest form. un contained, possessive, and obsessive. that is what love was, wasn't it?
It was the kind of adoration that felt unfathomable to share, as if no one could understand it better than they, nor would another dare step in between the two of them.
but love was not always gentle. it could be cruel, could twist and warp into something dark, something unrecognizable.
which, in the heart of this figure, it had become an obsession, a madness that knew no limits. alas, they knew that the one of their affections did not yet understand, that they could not yet see how perfect the two of them were together. but oh, they would soon enough.
they smiled. a cold, almost serene expression that blanketed the distant storm raging within. they had done everything to make their love known, to show how deep, how true it was.
the first time they had been forced to intervene with their beloved's personal endeavors, marked the first time that the figure realized keeping a constant eye out was necessary. it wasn't supposed to be harmful exactly. it was simply a necessary act to preserve the sanctity of their love. and when it was done, when the obstacle had been removed, they had felt nothing but relief at the knowledge that things were back to how they should have been.
they had cleaned the blood from their hands with the same care they had once used to write love notes, to write letters confessing their deepest love. only never to be formally given to the only one meant to read them.
their heart swelled with pride at the thought of what they had done.
and it was all for love.
there was no room for doubt, no place for hesitation. this love was unwavering, unbreakable, a bond forged in the blood and flesh of their obsession. and for as long as they knew that one day, the other would see - would understand that this was the way things were meant to be - they could keep themselves at peace.
for now.
the figure stepped out of the shadows, their eyes shining with an adoration that barely served to shield the madness stirring within. they moved with purpose, and as they approached, they whispered a promise, a vow of sorts:
"you're mine. and I'll do anything to make sure it stays that way."
because this was love.
true, undying, all-consuming love.
the kind of love that would destroy anything that stood in its way.
the kind that others would lose their minds (and lives) over, in order to protect.
