Backstory

PJ Wu was a Martial Arts expert who had won previous trophies in martial arts tournaments. He had honed his craft that it earned him an Athletic Scholarship in one of the prestigious universities in one of the top schools in the Philippines.

To appease his parents as he lived in the oldest Chinatown of the Philippines in Binondo, in the capital city of Manila, he entered in the Ateneo de Manila University as a Business Management undergraduate. Despite the load being different as he was an athlete and it took him 5 years to finish his degree, he was able to graduate yet compete even against Patricio Jose, where Jose won the trophy. After Jose had graduated, that was when Wu won the gold and the tourney.

He took a year off active competition to aid in the family business. But seeing as he wanted to take a different career, he had instead reached a compromise with his parents to be able to manage his business and somehow return to his true love, Martial Arts.

With this want in mind, he then began to compete in small tournaments but was unable to represent the Philippine team as scouts did not see much in him. Scouts of Philippine Wrestling Revolution on the other hand saw potential to bring in the Filipino-Chinese martial artist into the fold as a novelty and a new talent.

He tried to incorporate martial arts into his repertorie of moves in wrestling that he was able to rise up in the ranks despite not winning the promotion's title. It did not stop scouts from the WWE to recruit and sign him as a trainee for their developmental brand, NXT, back in late 2018.

After a year and a half in the Performance Center, PJ Wu, now bearing the ring name Wu Yong, will begin his journey in NXT as a ferocious but calm Peacemaker fighter.
